    AFTER MORE RESEARCH I SUGGEST YOU READ THE FOLLOWING FROM STEVE THE DESIGNER OF THE HERMES LITE AND HERMES LITE 2: In regard to the AK4951 Companion Board, I will be doing another video regarding the removal of said board: Please follow this link- groups.google.com/g/hermes-lite/c/Z-OYbKdp-Pw/m/670poC1GAQAJ .. Esp as of last few emails I have had with an individual regarding software usage and questions pertaining to functions and when I wanted to let them know about the new release of Beta 4, in which I found out that Indvidual isn't running what is listed on their webpage pertaining to board and their links of suggested software themself. Esp when I was trying to let them know there was a fix for incorrect LPF filtering , which was cause of my HR50 UNK errors repeatedly, which they said doesn't happen, Of course later I found there not running the software suggested or listed on that site, which is why they never had issues, you would think if your selling something and supporting it, you would be running the software versions you have listed for others to use, would you not. So, Steve if you see this, I'm sorry and it will be removed from the unit.

    I have had a Hermes Lite 2.0 for 2 years. Love the radio. Over the years, I have bought 3 of the radios and had one delivered to a friend in Australia. Absolutely amazing radio. I know own a Anan 7000DLE MKII with protocol 2. The Hermes Lite 2.0 is protocol one. I also have a Hermes from Anan but the companion board has not shipped as yet. Any, the Hermes Lite is an amazing radio. Enjoy it.

    • @don_n5skt
      @don_n5skt Před rokem +1

      The Hermes is the internal board that the Anan had in it in early versions. Steven Hyal designed the Hermes Lite 2.0 based on that board. The Anan 10E had a Hermes. That was in Thetis. The filter board and 10W Amp I am waiting on from Apache Labs is what I am waiting on. Thetis includes the Hermes and Filter board from Apache Labs is in Thetis. Thetis did not include the NA2DR board support settings and so you need the software from Reed.

      @@paulchristensen7053 What version were you running prior?

    • @paulchristensen7053
      @paulchristensen7053 Před rokem

      Prior Thetis version was 2.8.12. Also, PureSignal isn't compatible with HL2 at a 384K sample rate. Use 192K with the default SetPk value of 0.233 when using PureSignal. Otherwise, spurs occur in the transmit baseband when observing on an external spectrum analyzer.
      An annoying defect with Thetis and HL2 is that if a CW paddle is accidentally pressed while in SSB mode, the transmitter locks up. To clear the fault, stop, then re-start Thetis. I've seen this with several Thetis versions but not PowerSDR mRx.

    • @n8sdr473
      @n8sdr473  Před rokem

      @paulchristensen7053 I've run 384000 a few times since HL beta 2 and 3. Haven't encountered the PS issue that I am aware of, or anyone has mentioned. Could that be a PC performance issue? I'll try and do a video over weekend between the 2 sample rates. Besides increased spectrum I really don't even see a performance hit in doing so. As for paddle/key issues I haven't plugged mine in and left them in while voice or digital mode.

      Hello Ronald, hope you have been well and nice to hear from you, I wish I had come across the Hermes 10 so years ago I am far behind with this one- EE hardware isn't compatible with Thetis or Thetis isn't supportive of EE hardware whichever way you want to look at it, and EE wants to keep it in house- I get that- But if you do you better make good on promises and develop new features or you're going to lose customers.

    this is a good radio. I really never TX in qrp I prefer 100w. But I love this kind of SDR. My question now is can I use an amplifier with this SDR? ( please dont come and say buy a 100w transceiver ). The point is not that.
    My question is very direct. Can I use an amplifier with this SDR?

    • @n8sdr473
      @n8sdr473  Před rokem

      Yes- If you watch the entire video, I explain I am using an HR50 amplifier I built _ I also use that amp to drive my bigger 1000-watt amplifier. There are many Solid-State low input amplifiers out there (like RF2K etc.) - or do as I do, now I'm QRP/close to 100W and almost QRO depending on mode-conditions etc. there is a key line for an AMP on the back of the radio or through the DB9 serial connector.

  • @privatenombre2146
    @privatenombre2146 Před rokem +1

    So is it safe to say the majority of cost in SDR's is the high power 100W PA? Seems like the basic computing side is fairly cheap.

    • @n8sdr473
      @n8sdr473  Před rokem

      I don't think so. I built a small ss amp to go with this that cost me about $360 or so given the heatsink for that is the expensive piece in that kit. It's really amazing that this low cost gem is kicking butt to rigs costing so much more.

    • @n8sdr473
      @n8sdr473  Před rokem +1

      Yes I did the Hermes is a single ADC so diversity is Not an option. But then again still great Rx and noise reduction. Plus full duplex and pure signal for less then $500. US if you add the companion board. Or $380.US without it.

  • @youcef_benchalel
    @youcef_benchalel Před 9 měsíci

    There is no way to do full duplex on sunsdr with a single ADC even in time sharing it will be ugly, they must redesign it with 2 adc’s to achieve that. But wait and see.

    Pity no 6M on this version of Hermes!
    I disagree 're Expert, why would you sell your SUN with 8/6/5/4/2M bands and 100w radio for a HF with 5 watts.. It is not all about audio and dnr...some folk get obsessed with this NR stuff.
    Get a decent antenna or a good set of headphones, if you can't hear DX!
    I will be keeping my SDR2 DX, it does exactly what I want.

    • @n8sdr473
      @n8sdr473  Před rokem

      I still have the sun I said in video I'll use it for 6/2 meters since it's all mode.
      As for 6 on the Hermes with thetis the hardware in the Hermes doesn't support 6 .not a thetis issues.
      As for RX and TX the Hermes is better in my opinion then the Sun. It isn't an antenna issue. As I side the same antenna same stations switching between them. Weak signal makes it easier to hear /copy on the HL2+.
      It's a shame such an inexpensive radio can kick butt to those costing so much more.
      As for 5 watts not an issue that's what they make amos for!
