Makeup and sports are not mutually exclusive, a person can do both and be amazing at both. If Blair wants to curl her hair and put on makeup in between running this awesome race that's great for her!
+jasmin hunt she definitely can, but the biggest issue I think is carrying all of it. She's gonna be suffering with that backpack already, and anything that's not absolutely necessary will just add to it! Makeup while playing sports, sure (except for those clogged pores). The Amazing Race isn't simply playing sports, though. She can do whatever she wants, but I really think she's not gonna keep all that stuff!
I've always wondered what the amazing racers have in their bags! You should do a follow up when u get back about what was useful and what wasn't, or show us what ended up coming home!
Oh boy this is going to be an eye opener for her on what really is important and what is not!
When you get back home you should do an update on your experience and what you ended up throwing away from your bag, and what you wish you had packed!! That'd be really fun to watch :)

why is it so outrageous to backpack with makeup? im glad Blair is proving you can be adventurous and outdoorsy and feminine
+shayshayabedin You haven't seen the show have you? It's not that it's ridiculous it's just the time constraints of the race means she probably won't have time. Even when the cheerleaders were on before by the 2nd leg they didn't change their clothes or do their hair so you have to assume. Also, you really don't need the dead weight when you have to run to a finish line it could slow her down.
It's not even that much! Just basics. People just want an excuse to moan
Shaz X Typically it wouldn't be, but again during the show it will end up being a lot. I mean if you were in a head to head race with someone trying to get to the finish line you'd want the pack as light as possible. That's why people are saying things because most of us have seen the show and seen how empty the packs get or how many things people lost along the way.

Hahahaha totally lol. And I'd ditch half the makeup. Just an SPF foundation, powder with SPF, the multiple. Or in a pinch u can use a lipstick on cheeks and eyes. All the same ingredients. But I died lolling at ur comment
That and why bring expensive makeup like nars!?! There's some fantastic drugstore makeup out there that you wouldn't miss if you had to dump it because it's so cheap. I've watched The Amazing Race for years and most of the girls by the end of it aren't even bothering to put makeup on anymore because you're so tired and how you look is the last thing on your mind.

I agree. I don't think bringing a curling wand or blow dryer is practical even if you are a beauty person. But it's her first time doing this and she may end up leaving or loosing some stuff.

You should do a video after the race about how useful everything you brought was. I want to know how many things were discarded and what things didn't last long enough. It would be interesting to know!
IF she were a normal person I'd say her makeup/hair stuff is ridiculous and silly. BUT to be fair, she works in the beauty industry, and will be represented as a beauty guru every time she's shown on the show. It makes sense that she'd want to keep herself looking put together. I still bet she doesn't use everything she packed, but I understand the thought behind it.

She's not the first contestant to bring makeup and a curler. Season 27 had the cheerleaders and they always looked on point. Let her bring what she wants... She'll find time to use it!
Dude, reduce stuff by half that bag gets really heavy when you're hot, tired, and walking. NO blow dryer! 4 months+ in Asia taught me less is more. Make sure you bring anti nausea medication, eye drops, USA made sunscreen (Neutrogena worked well)/ tampons/ Advil and a general antibiotic(Cipro). Face lotion a lot of it, small foundation and mascara for going out. I took a lot of liquids divided into the 3.4oz and that was fine. Make sure you get insurance that covers high risk activities and emergency flights and check with a travel doctor so they can give you immunizations for different travel zones. Good luck Blair!

Of course Blair is gonna bring makeup and hair styling tools! She's a BEAUTY guru on CZcams and will be represented on TV as one! I think that her bag is perfect and everything in it is essential. Plus the hairdryer would definitely be good for drying the clothes she has to wash in the sink if need be so she's not running around with wet clothes in her bag
+Ashley Luebke This reason could be the first I've seen to why a blowdryer would be in there! However, she would probably look good with half that makeup and without the curling wand.. Also there are hair brushes that hade a mirror combined that are smaller than the brush she took and is about the size of the mirror she brought, so... Maybe that's not the most well-thought thing she brought... :P
+Beatrice Hallberg If she`s going to a cold climate a hair dryer is really important because your hair freezes, and it makes it break, and you get sick and stuff.

People keep in mind the makeup makes sense, she's going to be on television and her job is in the beauty field. Granted, she definitely could have packed less makeup but hey it's her face, and her backpack, let her live. Also the blow dryer is very smart. What if they go somewhere freezing and her hair isn't drying in time after being washed. She can keep from getting freezing or sick with wet hair.

So, I know it's too late to give any advice, but this is for anyone else who may need/ want it and this sounds disgusting but hear me out. I'm military.. so I spent a few weeks in the field for training.. Ditch the makeup, ditch most of the toiletries. If you buy boxer type underwear it works better...because (and here's where it gets gross) you can wear the same underwear for 4 days by flipping them backwards and inside out. Sink washing is handy. For showers, all you need is baby wipes.. Wash downwards in this order: face, hands, armpits, genitals, bum, and feet. Everything else is okay. You can also wear the same clothes for potentially weeks(you won't need to, but you can). You just need to change your t-shirt, underwear and socks..
+Keisha Abbott Panty liners are also great for being able to use underwear for longer if needed. They hardly take up space at all and they protect you from uti`s to a certain extent because they suck up moisture.
In the field we just took pads(for obvious reasons), because taking both too up too much space when you're already stuffing things into socks and boots and pockets of tactical vests. lol ammo and feminine items just a zipper away from each other
It's kinda hard watching this, as a girl myself. Too much desire to look good for the camera (and anyone looking at you). It's so shallow, it hurts. And for a racing competition, makeup, blowdryers, and the like should be the last thing on your mind to pack in your bag!
+barbaro267 To be fair the amazing race was a great chance to market herself. That makes looking good kind of important considering her career is in beauty entertainment. I certainly wouldn't be here if it weren't for seeing her on the race. Also, she was able to woo Brodie with her good looks! haha

Do you really need a curling wand? Like, really? I kinda can understand a blow dryer, like in case you don't have enough time or it's too cold to let it air dry. The amount of makeup is also a bit ridiculous, why bring so much eyeshadow and brushes when you can get almost everything in cream/crayon form and just use your fingers? If I was going on the amazing race I would be all Katniss Everdeen-style, with braid and no makeup on. Maybe I have to be a beauty guru to understand.
+lavenzaa I thought the same thing. I've watched this show since it started and no one has time to do hair or makeup on this show. Hopefully, she wised up and got rid of it before going otherwise someone in another country probably got to keep them. LOL.

+Alls good I totally agree with you. They picked her to see if a beauty-obsessed girl would survive outdoors. But in some way she's doing everything to prove that she wouldn't. Everyone expects to see a girl who brought so much beauty stuff and so little useful things that it's hilarious and cringe-worthy. Anyway, that's just my opinion, maybe I'm wrong.
P.S.: since when having full face of makeup and curled hair is the equivalent of looking good? Girls, please, stop cultivating insecurities. I love makeup and I love doing my makeup, but I don't think anyone really needs it to look acceptable, it's more like a form of art.
I think what people are forgetting is that they're more than likely going to promote her as a beauty guru, so she's going to have to look the part. So yes, all those things are necessary for her to bring.

If she's anything like me she got to monkeying around with her bag before she left and accidentally left it at home. I always think I packed something that gets left behind. She's too cute though. I was tickled to death with the no bathing suit on The Amazing Race thing. She's learning really quickly though and is a really good sport about things. She and her father and the two brothers are my favorites so far.

girl, you didn't need to bring all that makeup. as a girl who loves make up as well I would bring, sun cream, a moisturising lip balm and thats like it. thats all the beauty stuff and like a brush and hair ties for my hair.

I don't know if I would care so much about my hair and make-up if I had to carry it all on my back while literally running around the world. Although the hair dryer will come in handy to blow dry wet underwear and socks.

If I were going on this show I would not bother with any of the hair stuff besides the brush and hair ties and most of the makeup would also not be taken. I'd probably bring a mascara, benefit gimme brow, and a stick foundation and a chapstick. lmao
If you guys think Blair is the first person to go on the amazing race that's taking makeup and a curling wand you haven't been paying all that much attention.. Though i do think she'd be better off with like an all in one BB cream and setting powder just because it'd give enough coverage but also be super quick. Then just an eyeliner, brow pencil and the nars duo. There's definitely a few things that can be culled but it's easily a well packed bag.

I agree she could easily downsize some of the makeup but since she is a beauty guru it isn't surprising so I don't see why everyone is making it such a big deal. I think she should pack another thick jacket too. Last thing you want is to be miserable and cold :(

I hope she and her dad are doing well on the race. It is one of my favorite shows. That backpack though will be half its weight after the first episode though and it will be nothing but ponytails and no makeup.

Blair...out of all the things you took what did you really use?
I probably would've skipped 6 brushes in favor for just the beauty blender and a brush for contour/blush, then skipped eye brushes all together in favor of a crayon like Laura Mercier Caviar sticks and a black eyeliner smudged on top. Simple and quick but still looks very put together and will last all damn day. The lash extensions were a great idea.
I want to watch the amazing race now just to see how much of the beauty items she ditches along the way or if she actually keeps most of it. Because if she keeps most of it, I will be super impressed!
I am DYING watching this video.... really Blair?! Hair dryer?? Hair curler?? Make up?? Toners?? Face Masks?? Home girl you should have re-thought this and maybe watched the show.. This just completely annoyed me.

Just watched the beginning of episode two and I was reminded of watching this video before the show aired. I remember thinking, "....this girl has packed way too much...." And watching episode two it was confirmed.

I'm a big fan of The Amazing Race and have watched all seasons and the girls usually bring about the same or more than Blair has. They always have so much makeup on and hair curled. So it is pretty normal. Although I personally don't think it's realistic to be carrying so much weight almost 24 hours a day.
I don't get why people are hating on her for taking her curling wand and a bunch of makeup. The amazing race has been on forever and every season there's always one or two stylish girls that are always seen with makeup and their hair done, so they probably packed all the same stuff Blair is

Yikes! Thats a lot of stuff! Ditch the pillow, use a sweater. Ditch the curler and the blow dryer, you'll be so tired in the mornings that you won't have time anyways, and 6 makeup brushes? 1 beauty blender and 1 eye brush would be just fine. That stuff gets HEAVY fast especially if you are running around outside in the sun or cold
+Parker I agree! I had just a 40 pound pack for an overnight backpacking trip and it was so heavy, Ever since I never carry near that much stuff, especially if she will be running and stuff with that pack on!
She basically packed more things for this trip than what I own

these are legit things i never thought of when watching the race. I'm sure everyone who has run has packed these things maybe more or less but when i watch it i figure they have make up people and stay in swanky hotels where this stuff isn't needed. i am so loving this and hope she and your did rock the race!

Look, she is the one beauty guru on a season of "social media celebrities." I'm assuming that they would suggest that she bring more makeup/beauty products than anyone else and they're probably going to air a small segment on it. And honestly, in past seasons, lots of girls have gotten done up and some have brought pretty impractical outfits, so I really don't see the problem with her bringing makeup if she can fit it. They do have downtime. She's not going to be racing to a clue box with a makeup brush in hand. Goodness.

You don't need the makeup, hair dryer, or curling iron. That's unnecessary weight. Feel confident in your body to not bring that stuff
I don't know. I would take a tiny, travel-sized dryer. My hair gets matted, impossible, and swampy if I don't dry out the roots, and you can use it to dry out clothes/shoes/packs so they don't get mildewy, since she probably won't have time for a traditional clothes dryer or hanging them to dry. The curling wand, however...

Hey girl! I know you're already gone, so this really won't be very helpful now haha, but I recently went backpacking for almost 3 months with just a backpack as well (carry-on size). I know it's not necessarily the same situation, but for real, the less you have the better. In the future, I'd reconsider bringing a curling iron, hairdryer, most of the makeup, and even a few of the layers you have. Less is more when you carry all you have on your back.

It's not just about how ridiculous it is to try and look good when no one cares, it's about minimizing what you bring to make it easier to run. You have to save your strength as best you can for any challenges. Never know what's going to happen, and she just brought way too much for this show specifically.
