I have to leave for now, but I'll input all the sources of this video's research when I get back home. - Hry
Researched a lot into this, but a lot of the information can be hard to find - so if I messed anything up, please let me know in a comment. (edit: I can already see that premiere pro exported some assets incorrectly and text on an infographic didn't update. Apologies!)
😘😘
Will do dad
I love you man, keep on going!
Fantastic video man. I don't know if this will become a series but I will love a AoE II video made by you, it's my all-time favorite game.
I think you didn't get much incorrect I just would want a more in depth and lengthy video on this. Give me an hour or more of content and I and probably much more would gladly watch this
On a rather bright note it should be remembered that many of the devs of StarCraft, StarCraft 2 and WarCraft 3 have joined up and launched a new RTS studio - Frost Giant, and they're working on a game right now.
So, SO excited to see what will come of it!
We deserve that after the shitshow that was reforged
They will release some info tomorrow at summer game fest!
Yeah, Stormgate is coming, Terrans vs Diablo's army :)
Anyone know what the game is called
AND the mother of Tasteless and Day9 works there 🕹️
The King of Content has returned.
He's not the King anymore.... He up and left League.
@@MartyrMachine nah when he played league he was the The King of Depression, now hes The King of Content
@@MartyrMachine what ^ said, LoL is nice and debatablely the most balanced moba, not counting battlerite or paragon just based of personal experience from other mobas
Its great, but its community is full of scum, not all but a very sad amount. And honestly even sadder is most games are, most games either there's a shit ton of scummy people or massive sweats who you can smell over the internet but that's a whole other talk.
Point being LoL is great but it doesn't make someone great, Karp had the best LoL content and even his non LoL stuff then to today outshine any LoL stuff
Tío Feeder no sabía que veías a magikarp, cómo siempre grande el tío Feeder.
I'm uncertain why, but near the end I genuinely felt teary-eyed as I processed all the information... it's just, it's incredible.
yeah I feel you, especially that "Faker what was that" at the end hit me DIFFERENT
Same, had flashbacks of all my starcraft memories. Kinda too much too process.
Oh it hit me earlier than that. I remember looking up videos on the internet watching pros in the early 2000s. Nothing shaped my life more than this game.
Some of the info is a bit inaccurate which makes me dislike the confident tone. But otherwise good for outsiders to get at least some kind of primer
@@leonalbers1828?
Exquisite! I loved this video :-) '98 was a heck of a time.
Well hey Brent wouldn't expect to see you here!
I would say there’s some serious quality issues imho
I have a ton of fond memories of playing custom games on SC:BW (mainly Tower Defense lobbies) when I was a kid. There were so many good custom maps made, and hell even DotA and League spawned from Aeon of Strife. StarCraft was truly a legendary game.
Thank you for acknowledging that AoS is the birth of the moba genre, and not DotA. It's such a common misconception people seem to have, that the WC3 DotA map was where it all truly began.
This is only half true.
Its like saying that Starcraft is the godfather of esport.
While technically there was Quake and CounterStrike tournament before that, Starcraft is where its truly begin.
If you has play AoS, you wont even realize its a moba game. Not until WC3 custom maps, where moba take the form we see today
Marine D and Poker D were absolute bangers!
Hell yeah, your documentaries are always sooooo extremely awesome. It's great seeing you upload videos again. You helped through my darkest times as a child man. Thank you so much
I know you mentioned it briefly when talking about the campaigns (which I love to death despite their flaws), but genuinely I would love to see your takes on individual, smaller Starcraft elements. Like your personal experiences, campaigns, custom games, a deep dive on the esports or a video discussing more about Starcraft 2. Loved this video, and I'm always glad to see my favorite game get more recognition for what it did for the gaming industry, thank you for doing it justice :)
great watch man, much love
Hi Jimmy never knew you know starcraft
Love your content!
Thank you so much for making this Matt, Starcraft has been a huge part of my life ever since I was little and still is to this day. It saddens me as to how small the scene has grown since the glory days but reminiscing upon such grand times thanks to content creators like you is such a joy. Truly, thank you for this.
This broke my heart. I was raised playing Starcraft with my uncle and spend so so much of my life rising through the ranks and watching pro players in sc2. I hope that they just stop support for Starcraft 2 and don’t let the series die even when the story got wrapped up. It hurts seeing something so dear to me die off. Thank you for this Matt. It was a little connection to a part of my life that I learned even more about.
Starcraft was my childhood. Some of my best memories were wrapped up in this game. LAN parties with old highschool friends, watching day 9 dailies, and seeing the best in the world compete. Thank you for covering this amazing game
I was so happy to see the Total Annihilation reference. That game was my entire childhood and I even still have a PC copy. You can still get a copy online that has been modified to run on modern PC's and I love occasionally reliving the nostalgia.
Also, it has to be said, this video was absolutely flawless. I was blown away and I appreciate how much hard work you clearly put into this content. Keep it up Matt
I never played the original but total annihilation 2 was my childhood, amazing game
@@VVopalbut total anhilation 2 does not exist
@ggon7746 must've been a typo I have no recollection of this comment. I guess I was referring to the one that was later released and not the one released in 1997
@@ggon7746 wait no I was referring to planetary annihilation I got my games mixed up lol
I loved this game so much! The sheer amount of creative things one could do with a "Use Map Settings" game was mind boggling for the time. I'm sure starcraft was one of the leading reason why tower defense games got so popular in the 00s.
Another feature you don't see anymore that I always loved about StarCraft was the spawn disk feature. It allowed you to install part of the game on another computer and play it without the disk. There were limited features but the most important part was that it encouraged LAN parties. Used to install it on all the school computers and setup giant 8 person games during class.
What a blast of nostalgia. I had no idea about the history of so much of this game that filled my formative years as a gamer, a fantastic watch. What a wonderful video to return to the youtube scene with, Magikarp.
StarCraft is the father of esports, I love this franchise so much its hard to put into words. I knew you played SC back in the days, so glad to see you finally make a video about it
I've always been a huge fan of the OG StarCraft and the sequel, never felt disappointed in the story or voice acting or enjoyment, even though I was god awful at RTS I still loved my LAN games with my bros against AI and the story, fun to get a little throwback to that along with just how significant it was, very insightful. Thank you for this
Oh my god I absolutely love starcraft and I'm real happy you're back doing what you love keep it up

Finally it's here
Growing up In the 90s, my dad worked for a computer building company and had easy access to anything computer related. We had a 4 way land connection so my friends would always come over to play all kinds of games like Starcraft, warcraft, Giants: Citizen Kabuto, 4x4 EVO, age of empires and so on. Never realized how incredible that was at the time because it was just normal for me.
Just to add, even though Blizzard does not do active development. Starcraft 2 does still see balance patches and new maps, there is still a very active pro scene with large prize pools and fierce competition. Starcraft: Brood War is massive in South Korea with ASL matches regularly having over 100k viewers and a generally large streaming audience on afreeca. Both the games have an active ranked ladder with players of all skill levels.
it's good to see you making content you (and others) enjoy. welcome back.
Oh my god! Man I miss this kind of vids from Matt! THE RETURN OF THE KING!
You are a master when it comes to documentaries. I really enjoyed the video alot. Glad you're back.
Started a 1000 piece Kerrigan puzzle yesterday today StarCraft documentary..... :) Thanks Matt
oh god, man, i just now realised how much i missed you videos. im so glad you were able to come back and in a way you enjoy it.
Documentation told like a story. I really like how you make these vids. It was a very heartfelt, emotional even haha.
That iconic shoutcast from Doa and MonteChristo gave me the chills. ngl
It isn’t ‘documentation’ and it has a lot of factual inaccuracies and omissions
Besides issues in the style and presentation (language use)
@@mareksicinski3726 is not entirely incorrect
I subbed back then because of the humor in your channel (with the league and dick jokes as such), but holy shit this video essays became my favorite type of vids because of people like you. Hope you make more of this !!!
Your video game documentaries are always fire. Awesome job.
For some reason i got emotional towards the end, actually got chills (i don't do that often). Great video
This dude just cliffhangered a documentary. Hell yes I'm so excited
dude... i havent seen a karp video in like 4 years. Back when he was just making meme videos. This video brought me back to being a kid and reminded me of some reallly great memories of people that arent here anymore. 5 star video, man.
Woah you are really good! More videos like this please. I keep rewatching your actual champion spotlights over and over again and this is refreshing
You always knock it out of the park with these video essays. Every time one shows up on my feed, I always enjoy watching. Keep up the good work, dude.
Brilliantly done, Matt. Some great pieces of history here. Your docu-series have honestly been amazing, and continue to improve. Can't wait to see the next one!
Yup, this kind of content really highlights matts strong points, film directing and film biography (?). Really loving it.
Loved the new style, thanks for putting time into your content and balancing your serious/well made/long documentaries with your great humor that we love.
These types are videos are honestly some of my favorites from you
Great video! I wasn't expecting this kind of content on this channel but boy am I glad there is
Really loving this type of video game documentary content. Can't wait to see what other type of content you'll be uploading. Keep it up.
Your video was so good I have to quote Homelander “it was perfect. Perfect. Everything, down to the last minute details.”
Great video Matt!! Thoroughly enjoyed it and so glad to see you thriving and doing what you love
Hell yea man! my favorite thing you've produced in the last year or so has been these mini docs! PLS keep them up, take your time, and stay happy
Man, I remember the first time I played starcraft. I was about 10 years old and it was one of my dads favorite games, he was so excited I was taking an interest in it. A year later when he got a new computer he gave me that one and we'd play lan matches together.
Thanks for the video m8, it really took me down a nostalgic walk and reminded me why I love video games so much. And yes, me and my dad still play starcraft together from time to time.
Been following you since you started your channel years ago. Before champion spotlights. I'm loving this new direction the most, for real. Keep it up!
this was absolutely phenomenal, its about time someone gave credit to starcraft
please make more of these types of videos this was epic :) much love and welcome back my friend
Genuine Chills from the ending, great to have you back matt!
Excellent video! I think you do a great job with these documentaries. Your genuine interest and appreciation of them helps convey the meaning they have for so many people. Thank you.
Literally got back into SC2 like two weeks ago, so the timing has made watching this awesome summation of Starcraft history all the more sweeter!
This is honestly one of the best videos you have ever made Matt seriously love your content dude. I hope you enjoyed making it because you totally have a skill for this documentary style video keep it up dude
I really feel lucky to have grown up with gaming in the late 90s and 2000s
I remember the teachers went on strike at our school for a month and so me and my bro just got to stay home and play Starcraft all day.
Such fond memories, back when gaming was special
Great video Matt. I'm glad you're back and better than ever.
I really like those essay type videos, I think you manage to strike the perfect balance between information and entertainment, congrats.
Honestly this video was so good and entertaining that it legit ended so fast for me because I was so invested in listening to your voice.
Great to have you back man! Also great documentary, I think it's clear you are very talented and can also do "serious" but still funny and informational videos
10/10 documentary man. I like these style of videos. support you no matter the direction you go 🎉🎉🎉
Represent the Poker D at 17:42, love it! Spent YEARS of my life playing SC User created maps.... so much love!
i'm so glad ive been keeping with your channel for what feels like 8 years or smth now, ive always loved you content and i always will.
What a wonderful video to watch. I still play starcraft 2, and have for quite some years now. Sad to know its done development, but this video brought back some joy along with new insight into its development. Love to see it Matt!
I love your documentary-style videos. It's nice to see you make content that you have passion for once again
Love you work. Been watching you since like 2016! Great video going over the legacy of Star Craft!
Ok real interaction after watching, what an amazing video. I’m absolutely swept away with the editing and pacing of this video, it wound up to be an incredible listening and watching experience. You had my attention at every turn. Well done, this is genuinely a work of art.
The juggernaut of a game , I legit has tears just by hearing this . I am so glad to see starcraft still alive, getting the credit is deserves
Love to see you back Matt. I loved your old videos and I still watch them for several laughs but I love these projects just as much if not more. Your WH40k videos got me into WH! I'm so happy you found something you love to do for videos and I hope you keep having fun with them!
The intense work and research you put into this is astounding, you really are an absolute master at these essays, and the way you present them are beyond genius. Incredible work.
Loved the video. You clearly put a lot of work and dedication into your history videos and it shows. Keep up the good work!
Ive always enjoyed your documentary type videos glad your back matt.
Dude I love your documentaries. You have such a beautiful, poetic and funny way of narrating. Keep doing them! Don't forget that you're amazing.
I still follow Starcraft Broodwar and Starcraft 2 videos nowadays and I think I'll keep watching them until I grow old. I heard that some of the people that worked on these godly games banded together to form a company, looking forward to what those guys make and I hope they manage to breathe in some life to the RTS genre again.
Phenomenal video essay. Youve got such a great informational presence and tone, youre a great educator.
1st of all glad to see you uploading a video again , and second I love these type of videos , even if I don't really like the game being talked about , I find it fascinating all the stuff about the how's and why's games happen.
That was a wonderful introspective. It's great to have you back man, really well done.
i started sc2 back in 2000, I reached Grand Master top 50 last year as a toss player. starcraft gave me so many gaming skills, i sit in Masters on LoL becuase of the macro knowledge this game taught me. it is one of my all time favs. I have retired from SC/SC2 after reaching GM 1v1 and 2v2 top 50 with my army buddy. what a great video!
god bro. you are so good at these documentary type videos. i love them so much .
I love your video essays, always so informative
Love to see Matt posting on here again. Love all your stuff
Happy as can be to see new vids and especially something you love to show the world. Keep it up! We love you man. ❤️
Glad to see ur back, keep killing it
I love the heart and soul you put into this man. I hope it's more fulfilling and enjoyable to make content now and that you can keep knocking it out of the park like this.
Amazing documentary, thanks for all the work you put into this 🤗
Hey Matt, I just wanted to say that I appreciate you still making content and not being afraid of making the content you want to make. I enjoy every video you put out whether it be documentaries or other stuff. Don't stop being yourself and I hope you have a wonderful day ✌✌
Loved the video. Nice to see you back again.
Nice to see you back, and this video was very good! It made me sad though, I still play SC2 and I didn't realize they announced that back in 2020. Heartbreaking.
I was so hype when you announced a video a new video on this channel. A documentary none the less. So happy right now 😍😍
We will NEVER see another game like SC in our lifetimes, even though my age has stunted my reaction time, and my ability to multi-task has stopped me from being able to stay competitive in SC2 ranked, I am STILL obsessed with this game....there is simply something too.....unique about this game, no RTS has ever been able to capture the sheer brilliance of the genera that starcraft has, and I am saying this as someone who leans more towards fantasy than sci-fi!!!
It is the last bygone of the days of old, when Blizzard was the peak of the golden age of gaming, I hate to sound like I am drowning in nostalgia, but I honestly can't think of any other genera-defining games that have had as big of an impact as Starcraft did on the RTS games, sure there are big names like COD, Battlefield, and Halo who set the standards of current FPS games, but can you honestly name a single game other than WC3 that ever came CLOSE to being the pinnacle of the genera that SC did for the RTS genera? Sure, Age of Empiresalmost got there, but it never made it into the mainstream.
We witnessed gameing history when we saw SC rise into the behemoth it once was, and I highly doubt we will ever see something come close to what it once was, in any genre of gaming, ever again.
Keep up the amazing work ❤ 👏 this is the type of content I could binge for hours.
I'm proud of where you are going as a content producer.
i love variety content and i'm glad you are back man i missed your videos
The intricacies in your docs are so good.
where bugatti
I'm happy to see you return to this channel with such a banger of a video. Your content has always entertained me ever since the LOL days. Keep doing what you enjoy and we will all be here to support you.
Dude you absolutely shine when it comes to these, ngl.
Great work! Love this style of content from you
i'm not big on starcraft tbh and neither do i like documentaries but you somehow always keep me invested in your whole video
awesome vid, my man. welcome back. we have been waiting
Absolutely love your documentary style videos.
Fantastic video. StarCraft is the undisputed masterpiece of a RTS game. Been heartbreaking to realize that the younger generations of gamers have a total lack of interest in RTS games. I'm glad I was able to enjoy the glory days in Starcraft esports
God all the nostalgia. Seeing these clips from classic SC and SC:BW brought back so many memories. So much fun during my childhood.
This is glorious. I can't believe how far you've gone and it makes me happy and hopeful seeing it.
Welcome back! I'm glad to see you back on your feet
Man even though I don’t care at all about Starcraft your style of videos just interest me so damn much. Love the video and glad that you’re back.
YOOOOOOO! I love this so much Matt. Thank you so much for making this video. Nostalgia is hitting me hard. Looking forward for more.
