I'm a janitor and this song lasts about as long as it takes me to mop out a medium sized room at work. Love timing closing the door with the end of the song. Fantastic work song, driving forward the entire time.
I also am a janitor and yes you wanna start a shift on fire, Blast this! 😅
❤ Awesome

Damn you’re pretty good with the long haired skinny girl.
52 years later, it's still a great song with a deadly groove.
they were all in the groove, all of them dialed in....
Try 59❤
No doubt about it
How bout I remember it's release in 1970😊
This song proved brass can not only hold their own in rock, they can bring it home. Something jazz musicians knew all along.
could bring it back too

Kinda thought by 1970 Chicago Transit Authority had pretty well done that already.
It's 2023 and that "Vehicle" groove is still killin' it since 1970, Ft. Bragg, NC. 82nd Airborne!!
My cousin, Virgil Thompson was at Bragg on 1970.
All the way!!
My division too bro bro 1982-5
Every college or high school marching band should perform THIS.
We did.
Fla/am band rocked this song back in the day
So many kick ass bands used horns it's a shame that style has been lost.
You said it , Shane!
Yes class went right out the window over the years
Horns with trumpet and sax really made the song. I too miss it today. At least we still have these great tunes to listen to.
Still some that use horns...Check out St Paul and the Broken Bones... Good music is still out there, it’s just the radio doesn’t really play it anymore, you gotta hunt it down.
@@mbatchelor I just looked them up WOW and they ply near me next week I'm hoping to get there!
One of THE tightest horns sections EVER!!!! FIRE!!!! 🔥 🔥 🔥

Without a doubt
Yep. It has a Blood, Sweat, and Tears" vibe.
Every high school band in America knows this song!
Yes!
I remember all to well and Chicago!
You sure? Because Millenials and their musical taste...
@@SubidubidubiDu1 I was born in 1990, solidly in millennial territory, and I played Vehicle with my college band.
@@SubidubidubiDu1 Definitely played this in high school.
The singers today don't have this talent like back in the day. But this song has all the great elements.
These guys played at my high school in 1973. Omg
Do tell
EWF, Chicago, Tower Of Power, Blood, Sweat, & Tears, AWB, Lighthouse, & Ides Of March…the sound of the 70s, and all of them timeless & legendary. There’s no doubt that Bill Conti had to be influenced by “Vehicle” when he was composing “Gonna Fly Now” for “Rocky”.
I was just thinking that!!!!!
Don't forget Cold Blood
I just learned that Jim Peterik was in Survivor and, of course, they did 'Eye of the Tiger' for Rocky III
@Benton86 I'm a music head but have always been into hip hop/rap mostly. I've found myself looking for more 70s soul music just based off of the samples and to diversify my listening. I heard Ides of March from a coworker that's how I came upon this song. With the other groups you just naked do you have any more suggestions on who I should listen to? I've been bumping Curtis Mayfield, Isaac Hayes, Earth wind and fire, etc but looking for more artists to add to my Playlist.
Let's not forget Chase and their great song Get It On.
These are REAL horns you're listening to. This song just MOVES....
Did anyone think that the horns were fake?

The horns could cure a rainy day!

KILLER HORNS!!!! love it!!!!!
The horns are GREAT, but unlike Chicago’s horn section that sounds like one set of lungs, a description borrowed from Jimi Hendrix, the horn section in Vehicle resembles more of a collegiate marching band at Homecoming.

If you're only going to have one hit record, this is a damn good one to have. :-)

My grandson came in today telling me his high school band is performing this song. Sounds like teachers may need to get original.... but it might just be a great teaching tool..

Skip, you made my night!
I told him that the next karaoke night, this Friday, I will sing his song and he said he will be there!
Also he mentioned that the song still charts in the top 25 of all time!
Larry Millas' sister-in-law was one of my teachers. I heard "Vehicle" before it was released. Blew me away, at age 16. It still does.
Who else heard and loved this song for years thinking the singer was a black man? I did
I used to think it was Chicago.
I thought it was Jeffrey Epstein.
Yeah. Nineteen years old, and NOT black. Never in a million years would I have thought that. If there is ever the need for a muscle-car anthem, look no further.

Heard the song "Vehicle" at the battle of the bands at Notre Dame in 1969. Loved the song. Years later, I was a substitute teacher for the high school band director. They were playing songs for homecoming. Alot of Disney movie songs, Beauty and the beast, etc. The last song was vehicle. As they were playing, I was singing under my breath. When they finished, a girl in the flute section asked if there were words to that song. I said, "girl when I was your age this song was at the top of the charts." They convinced me to sing it and hooked me up to the biggest amps I have ever seen. It was LOUD! I was jazzed and let it rip. At the end of the song I got a huge standing ovation from the band. They played wonderful! I noticed in the corner of my eye, the 6'7" enormous Principal standing by the door looking at me. Knowing I am fired, I shouted over the microphone, "your remember that song don't you? He said, " I sure do!" Luckily I wasn't fired and had a fun four days. Fooled all of the students because they couldn't believe I was not a band director.
That’s awesome story, love it,, this song kicks ass
Cool story.
"Vehicle" was recorded and released in 1970. So how could you have heard it in 1969? Good story but I suggest you be sure your chronology is correct.

Darn it! It should have been released on the 15th.
Trombone players in high school band will know this was the best song on the setlist, hands down
Jim Peterik tells the story of the lead guitar part for this song. He had a few different takes and settled on what was his favorite. Unfortunately, when he returned to the studio to mix the song he found that a studio engineer had recorded over it. So Jim used this one, his second favorite take. Coz they didn't have any money for more studio time and they had a deadline. So this is what we wound up with. Which is one of my favorite leads in a pop song, ever.
My high school band used to play this song. Good times.
