Final Fantasy XI Opening - 1080 HD

- As the title says, the opening scene to Final Fantasy XI Online. It took me awhile to figure it out, but I finally recorded this thing. I had trouble because the scene is skipped once you press a key and I needed to press the record key to, well, record.
I uploaded this video because I was having trouble finding a good quality video of it on CZcams before. Of course, once I uploaded this I found a couple in the related videos. Still, I didn't find any that were 1080 quality, so I'm still glad that I uploaded this. You might notice a slight glitch at 4:36 or so, but that's because fraps divided the video into two parts when it recorded everything.

I feel this so much. I started in Oct. 2003, and I met my wife in the dunes. Almost 20 years later we're playing FFXIV and raising a family, life is great!

I remember as a kid when my father first introduced me to this game, albeit it has been around for 6 years back then this scene was so saddening. We visited an Orc Outpost and I asked "Umm, so many, can I kill some?", he said "They're too weak to be worth while." Love the game.

Yes, Emelyn is grown up in the game and she talks to the beastmen. She's with her brother Aldo who's in the Tenshodo HQ in Jeuno.

Nah, that's Verena, his adopted sister. Emelyn survived but she got amnesia and lives in Selbina.

taking the time to assemble a working party, sometimes the journey to the exp camp was more perilous than the exping itself. Only to do disband after successfully defeating a single lizard.
i fking loved this game.
i wonder if Aldo is the same protagonist in XIV.
Man I loved this game so much, my first online game and introduction to guilds.
I just got this game and I must say, even though the intro is pretty long it takes the best of MMO stories to get this mix of Character Focused story but also the fact that you are but one insignificant person in the end. Its really good!

This intro brought back so many memories. I was a beta tester for the PS2 version by Sony, so I was sent the PS2 HDD/Network adapter, and a oversized-boxed copy of FFXI (with Beta Version wording on the packaging). Still have it to this day, and while I never did play/subscribe to FFXI beyond the beta test period, this intro was watched so many times. It was riveting and emotional. Just watched it again in 2024.

How many people refuse to use this pronunciation of Bastok? I don't think anyone I've played with has actively pronounced it Bastook.
My whole family plays this game together, the 6 of us originally pronounced it Bastok. At the time I had a glitch with the opening movie and I never saw it, but once I got a new computer and finally got to see it. I realized my error. My family still say bastok instead of bastook like its supposed to be because they know it irks me. :)
That's because it's a galka that's narrating. They pronounce it differently from humes.
I remember this as my first mmo i ever played. It was on ps2 and i think it was kind of expensive for a game. When i think back its like wow my dad really spoiled me as a child. Such a great gaming exp lol i remember a drunk guy would call our house many nights for no reason and disconnect me. Also when i played i would have 2 TVs on the floor to use. one for the game and the other for the late night anime like inuyasha. ahhhhh good little memories

Aldo became a pirate. The city was never liberated. His sister survives, married a sheep shepard and had a kid. It was a Crystal, not a stone that created life. The Intro lied about so many things lol.

@@seyumaiayami3536 what are you talking about? That's what's revealed during the Norg quest line. I'm not interpretating anything. It's what litteraly happened. Aldo's sister Emeline has amnesia she doesn't remember how she survived the Orcs.

nobody knew until Rise of The Zilart and to an extent, A Crystalline Prophecy was released.
Actually, I think his sister is in Selbina with Amnesia right? It's been awhile, but I think the beast talking sister is not really his sister.

@thekingkellogg Well, I used a program called Fraps to record the video on my laptop. It took a few tries because the record key would trigger the scene to be canceled, but I guess I got lucky one time. ^^
If you mean the quality, I think it's a mixture of the Fraps program's quality of recording, my fairly new laptop, and some editing of FFXI's set dimensions. I used FFXIclopedia's Graphic page for info on editing FFXI's dimensions so that they would be correct for a high quality video.
Me, an Esperanto-speaker who never played this game but heard the opening was written and sung in Esperanto: *Is it confusing? yes. but it’s very intelligible.*
My very first MMO and I rocked this shit hard before moving to WoW and FFXIV! I want to play it again but after being away from it for years and seeing the macro system, I just just get deflated!

Head canon proposal. Aldo and the Hydra Corps actually are successful in routing the Orcish forces. But then the Shadow Lord retaliated by sending in Diablos, and the Tauri. The failed attempt to hold Tavnazia was a expensive endeavor, that nearly bankrupted San'doria, and Windurst and ruined the presidency of the Bastokian head. Leading to the rise of Karst and his Hume first agenda, the Hydra Corps is dissolved. San'doria holdings are shadow of it's former glory, Windurst is under pressure from the Mirthra prides who want compensation for the lives lost of it's best mercenaries. Bastok in comparison is a economic powerhouse. This is why the geo political scene is so tense for the player character during RoZ, and CoP.

Damn, those Orcs are ruthless, attacking non-Mithra women and children (plus, they'd seem likely to attack Mithra men, too).
I remember seeing just this trailer and thinking the idea of the plot was such a cool concept! Like a kingdom under siege! But only one bloodline or person from the kingdom survived poor sister died and the brother comes back years later to avenge his kingdom and sister and take it back! Would be such a cool movie!

the opening doesnt make much sense really. almost every aspect of the video is not do-able in game. Like dodging for example lol

Of course you can dodge. It's called the evasion stat. Meteor was added as a spell for black mage later on too. Those were all enemies that could be fought in game. All the characters are races you can play. I believe there is also characters and the place in the cutscene is also in the game to some extent.
Oh the final fantasy that started the downfall of Squaresoft (that and ffx-2) now ffxiv is finishing that job smh..

Also this needs a reboot not a fix or a remake a reboot same story same battle system just upgrade the graphics 😎
