    To me this guitar just goes back to the roots of the Pacifica.
    It was called the Pacifica because it was originally made to be the perfect guitar for the LA studio musician of the late 80's. You'd see some shredders like Michael Lee Firkins and Bill Leverty (Firehouse) use them, and even the Billy Sheehan bass is basically a Pacifica bass :D

    The Pacifica was a high end guitar long before they launched the budget version, so this is just taking it back to the roots. Still play daily one of the original high end Pacificas that I bought in the 90's, I've done countless sessions with it, toured with it and it has never let me down. Yamaha have always made expensive guitars, and their high end stuff is as good as you will find anywhere for any price, particularly their SA line and basses.

      Yep. Bass player here. I've had almost all of their top range basses. One of the most premium basses you can get out there. Huge sound, impeccable quality. Also the cheaper early 90's basses, you just can't fault. I have a soft spot for them. If I did not have my custom bass, I'd be playing a yamaha right now.

    I'm a huge Revstar nerd, but the Pacificas are also great guitars. Both the budget versions of the Revstar and the Pacifica are some of the best beginner guitars you can find, and now the professional models of both of them are some of the best modern Japanese production guitars you can find. I wouldn't say they are on-par with custom Japanese guitar brands like Caparison, Oopegg or Sugi Guitars, but they are not far from.

    The only famous very faithful Yamaha electric player I can think of is Carlos Santana,, who is playing a Yamaha @ Woodstock, same Yamaha during the well filmed Chavez remembrance gig in Mexico in 1993 9:17 , & a more modern suave Yamaha during the Emmy award concert organised by Santana........which sounds very very good indeed.......possibly some people reading this know Steinways are the pianos piano concerts are almost always played on........classical pianist Sviatoslav Richter hated that, & went to the bother of having his Yamaha grand piano transported from concert hall to concert hall around the entire world......Kate Bush paid £25,000 for a Steinway in 1980, made me think, glad I'm a guitar player.

    As someone who owns a 90s pacifica (my first ever guitar). Even for around £300 back then was a lot of guitar for the money and the build quality was always excellent. Personally for me I think Yamaha backed out out of the guitar market and their place got taken over by a lot of the bigger brands like Jackson, Ibanez, ESP, Charvel. Fender and to a lesser extent Schecter etc etc who made strat style guitars but in a lot more flavours compared to whatever Yamaha had available. Also many retailers here in the UK didnt really stock Yamaha basses/guitars or if they did, only in very limited stock and range. Whereas compared to other yamaha instruments like their pianos, brass, keyboards etc etc. Those were basically everywhere.
    Yamaha had the 611 and the 612s out in the UK and those were really high quality guitars but distribution was very very sparse. But the other manufacturers were more widely available and did the same thing in more colours and finishes.
    While Id love to see Yamaha trying to grow their brand again. Im rather sceptical of what im seeing here.... You get the usual high quality Yamaha build and finish but there was nothing wrong with going with seymour duncans like they did with their previous models as those pickups have been tried and tested. People know what they are getting when they have a guitar with a set of duncans in and everyone loves duncans. its all be tried and tested, and Seymour Duncan has been in the business a long time so they know what they are doing. These hifi-pickups however... Im extremely dubious of but if Yamaha has enough confidence to put them in a guitar, then I will have confidence that they will be good.

      Honestly, from arguably a much softer end of like aggressive music I guess, I have a lot more of that rocker hangover from middle school that’s like “no of course I don’t like the color pink.” But I’m definitely not drawn to guitars that actually have skulls on them or anything. My preferences tend to be for lighter colors actually, usually shades of white, yellow, silver, or a natural wood grain.

    I am always leery of "designed by NameDrop" pickups, because NameDrop didn't make them, but "designed" them for mass production from some random subcontractor, using whatever magnet quality and copper quality that suited the manufacturing budget. As a result you see this on the cheap models but don't expect this at all with $1000+ guitars. The difference you get with "Duncan Designed" pickups seen on D'Angelico or LTD lower tier models vs the Seymour Duncans which are installed in the higher models is quite dramatic. Yamaha would have advertised these as conforming to Neve standards in materials and production methods if they could. So now the real question is would you buy this to mod it with better electronics over a Silver Sky SE or a G&L or any other credible mid-priced Strat clone? I'm more impressed with the Revstar.

    • @bostonbesteats364
      @bostonbesteats364 Před 2 měsíci

      The actual story is that someone at Neve was already working on pickups and met the Yamaha team when they were visiting for other reasons and they decided to collaborate for several years to come up with these pickups. So these really are Neve designed pickups. According to Paul Riario, "Its cutting-edge pickups put it beyond any guitar in its class."
