- I give the basic procedure of how to time a Toyota Landcruiser 1HZ Bosch VE fuel pump in the chassis of my 2000 79 series Landcruiser.
Dial Indicator reading needs to be between 1.03-1.09mm for a 1HZ
Toyota part number for the timing adapter is 09275 54011

Nice to see a local company! I'm a William Adams cat tech. Actually used to work out of the Geelong branch! Small world 👍
Best tutorial yet for what I was looking for!!!👍👍👍👍🤝🤝🤝🤝🤝
For a DIY, would be handy to know/see what you’re actually adjusting #

Good job
Cool lesson on using a dial indicator. Would be useful to show the adapter and what exactly is being adjusted for the amateurs. Experts don’t need this video 🤷♂️
Considering a 1HZ swap in the future to replace my gas (petrol) engine, would you recommend the 1HZ or do you think some of the other Toyota direct injection engines would be better alternatives? I enjoy your videos. Thanks.
Thanks! I'd recommend swapping to a turbo 1HDT as they are built for the turbo and there would be less stuffing around getting it set up also being a younger engine it will be easier to find one with lower kms.
My IP (injector pump) on my 1kzte surf started leaking, looking for cheapest way to fix it by doing most of the work meself. Can you recommend any place around Australia where I could chase a refurbished IP for a reasonably cheap price?
Lastly, can the engine be damaged if keep driving for now?
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers mate
Hi, im not sure where you could find a refurbished one other than gum tree or ebay. Id be checking wreckers to see if they have any thing, that would be the cheapest option or take it to your nearest diesel shop and see how much it would cost rebuild it. in regards to the leak it would depend on how bad its leaking it is possible that the pump could starve of fuel and seize up if its leaking bad enough.
@@CamshaftFM thanks for your fast reply. Being in the country side everything here is like double the price. Talked to a bloke in Townsville and he reckons it's a minimum of 1.4g more like 1.8g ... Fmd
cheers tho
Id sell my kids for that truck and engine here in the usa
Hello once again,
To time the pump with a dial indicator. Do I have to open the timing belt cover and check the cam and pump mark on TDC ? Or just the crank mark on the TDC will work?
You need to line up the cam timing mark as well
@@CamshaftFM so I gotta open the timing belt cover. Thanks mate.
You dropped the box off a 1hz yet ? Looking for tips when I go to change my clutch over
Hi theres not a lot to them they are pretty straight forward to get out all I would suggest is use a gear box jack because its an awkward gearbox to balance, try find a dummy inputshaft to help align the clutch plate and spigot bearing when installing the clutch, make sure to get the fly wheel machined and have patience when putting it back in they can be fiddly like most 4x4 gearboxes.
Did you loosen all 6 fuel line connections on the pump? The FSM says this, wondering if it's necessary?
It helps but it’s not 100% necessary just be careful not put too much pressure on them
@@CamshaftFM Thank you. My timing was at 1.5 mm! '92 1HZ n/a.
How do the old 1HZ's go for towing, perhaps up to 2t?
they're a bit sluggish. with a turbo it pulls a lot better, the 1hdt is better suited for towing
Hey my man what kinda dial did u guys use?any recommendations 😌cheers
I cant remember what brand it is any dial indicator will do as long as it can measure in tenths of a millimetre.
Does the dial indicator need to be screwed on to the pump very tightly with a lock pliers or a wrench ?
No just needs to be firm not super tight
@@CamshaftFM thanks mate. Super responsive to messages. Got yourself a new subscriber.
Hey mate, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't you set it at 0.05 instead of 1.05 since the needle is between 0 and 10? Isn't 1.05 after the 10?
Hi, no it is set at 1.05 as the dial indicator had done one full revolution bringing it to 1
I probably could have been a bit clearer in explaining it. Thanks for you question.
@@CamshaftFM Oh, so the day before you set it to 0.95 and then in this video you adjusted it to 1.05. Right?
Yes that's right
Hi mate great video
Just want to confirm, you’ve adjusted the dial indicator to 1 at TDC which is 1 full rotation on the dial & then fine adjusted pump to achieve the .05 .
In other words, you’ve preloaded the dial indicator to 1 full rotation at TDC & then fine adjusted the pump to .05
Is that correct.... cheers in advance 👍
did this make a difference to white smoke cold start and running?
Yes stopped blowing smoke and running rough on cold start
@@CamshaftFM thanks mate ive just been through the same journey and now have a white smoke blower on cold start, so ive just bought the pump timing thing and dial indicator to do it too!
Great video. One question. What about the factory mark on the pump and the housing ? Shouldn’t that marks align ?
No they aloud for wear in parts, so the marks will never line up perfectly. They are more there to give you a reference point when adjusting.
@@CamshaftFM I got my pump rebuilt. Lined up with the factory marks yet the engine idles roughly. Any other way to time the pump apart from using the dial indicator ?
@@kotasonamtenzin not that I know of
@@CamshaftFM thanks mate. Great video. Keeping them coming.
@@kotasonamtenzin were the injectors done or tested too ?
My 1HZ cranks very well, engine runs very well but no self start, im always forced to do hill start always & picks up very well...what could be the problem because the vehicle has enough power even when ascending a hill & no smoky exhaust, kindly
Could possibly be the glow plugs, otherwise it should start I would also check that it is cranking fast enough on the starter motor if it’s not cranking fast enough it will not start.
@@CamshaftFM its running really fast on cranking, i have tried different batteries & still checked the glow plugs...doesnt selfstart even when warmed up
I’m not sure then mate that’s a odd one. Another thing you could check is the fuel shut off solenoid on the fuel pump but I doubt that would be the issue.
@@nicholaskimuyu369 I believe it has something do with the fuel pump. There's a Greyshish Bit which we call in Portuguese " Cabeça da Bomba injectora " that translates to Fuel Pump Head. Try to put a new one on and I believe the starting issue will be solved. Regards m8

I think youv got it right. Basically you put the eng at tdc rotate backwards until the dial indicator stops moving then set the dial indicator to 0 then rotate the engine forward to tdc and at tdc the reading should be between 1.03-1.09mm. If not adjustment on the pump is required until it reads the correct number. You might have to do it a couple times to get it spot on.
Hope that helps.

Thanx man..... much appreciated.
Yes it helps me a lot.
Keep up the great work cheers 👍
I have a Toyota Coaster with a non turbo 1hz, would the timing be the same?
Great stuff thanks.. I'm getting my injector pump overhauled on my 80 series 1hz non-turbo this coming week and it's nice to know what the go is so that if I have a problem I know what is going on.. I'm not far from you Western Subs Melb. ;) Great channel and I've sub'd.
Cheers mate!
There is also another way of doing that, without a Dail gauge.
How? Just by ear
You have a turboed 1HZ, you have stuffed it up again. Should be same plunger depth as the 1HDt.
Good example for tge NA 1HZs out there though.
It is set for the 1hdt I changed it the day after I made this video.
@@CamshaftFM nice. Bet that picked up alittle bit of power too
@@CamshaftFM GDAY, just to clarify, is this for a non turbo 1HZ? As a carpenter/ builder, i have to refit my reco pump on 1HZ 79 troopy in the bush/ or try get a diesel mech to travel 3 hrs out bush....cheers
@@STROONZONY hi mate, yes the adjustment is for a non turbo 1hz. Good luck.
@@CamshaftFM i dont understand Liams comment 'you have a turboed 1HZ...'???
Does have a turbo kit change anything?
Yes the timing for the fuel pump will need to be different
@@CamshaftFMThank you, where would i be able to find that information
@@australianchad6450 you would have to look up fuel pump timing specs for a 1hdt. As that is the turbo variant
