  • It is a beautiful Sunday morning in Ljubljana and I'm up early. Let's have a look at the sights, the bridges and some of the architecture of this lovely "pocket-sized" capital city.
I'm only here for one full day, so I have to pick out just a few of the things that are worth a look at in this wonderful city. but trust me on this, it is worth much more of your time. Ljubljana is one of my favourite cities ANYWHERE in the world!
One thing is for definite though. There will be a Skyscraper!

@@Timstravels01 I'm sure the locals would be cringing at my pronunciation, but i give it a go.
Languages with all the accents are much easier in general as the accents tell you how to say the word. Rather than the English language that just expects you to know.
      Best wishes to you 👍

Another of your very best Johnny! You're a regular Ian Nairn minus the melancholy ruminations! I've long been curious about Ljubljana and I had no idea it was this lovely. As I've noted in previous comments, you're a great commentator on architecture and you give such a well-rounded introduction to the places you visit. Don't fret getting off the train in the occasional video. These added excursions are wonderful!

Fifty years ago, I had a Latin teacher from Yugoslavia. The grapevine had it that she had escaped from Ljubljana...by swimming across the harbour. We all believed it because who knew anything about Ljubljana in those days? It looks to be a lovely city, and well worth a visit. I failed my Latin O-level but what I remember still comes in useful.

I really found the Neboticnik Skyscraper interesting as Art Deco was truly a captivating period of history. The railway museum is a good way to spend a couple of quiet hours too. My only slight criticism is that I would add just a little bit of history. Slovenia was part of the Austrian empire until 1918 (hence Emperor Franz Josef), then part of Yugoslavia until that country broke up in the early 1990s. People of our generation, Johnny, know that. But younger people may not.

@@Fan652w very good point. It is always a problem of writing a script that isn't too long for the content. I do find the Balkans fascinating because it is such a pressure cooker of cultures, tribes and , of course, empires playing "the great game" (usually with the lives of the locals). I would heartily recommend Misha Glenny's book "The Balkans", which takes things from 1804 up to the end of the 20th century... there's a lot of killing in it!
I hope the apparent stability of Slovenia can be spread to the rest of the former Yugoslavia. Kosovo particularly is a worry right now.
