  • I wish someone would make a decent music programme like this again. The UK used to produce some great music shows, but all I see these days are a pile of shit. Even later with Jools Holland has gone downhill, it used to be cool but now most of the people he invites on that show is just self gratifying crap so he can join in and boogie woogie along with.

Me also. About five or six week ago, I walked past a music instrument shop on Manchester Oxford Road. There was a Fender Telecaster in the window. I have been playing Stranglers videos on CZcams ever since. It is a pity that Hugh C. had a bust-up with the other members but, o. k., that's life.

The Stranglers Black and White is in my opinion the greatest album ever made. A collection of songs that exudes bleak war torn imagery and references the cold war to great effect. (U2 and Joy Division went on to create dark music with war torn overtones but the Stranglers did it first on Black and White). The production sought to capture death and destruction with a stark sneer of cold command and entrenched paranoia that existed in the late 1970's. A true masterpiece - never bettered.

+ZERO XX77 Black and white is still the most menacing album , You can sense JJ and Hughs violence in every track to the epic Toiler on the sea .

The greatest keyboard player IMO for sheer talent is Dave Greenfield, love No More Heroes, thank goodness some of us were around, to see this great floor filler of a band. Legends.

Wow brings back memories.I was 14 at that time. Revolver was a great series. Stranglers sound just as fantastic now as they did then. A truly impressive band.

I remember this Revolver programme very well - bought B&W on the strength of this - even tho' I had every Stranglers album prior to that. Loved Peter Cook's introduction - this has remained in my memory ever since - this is the first time in 30 years I have seem it again - thanks rp61wasinnocentok for this. Agree also - "early" Jools was great - but now - very ordinary. "Day becomes black and white......Stay in your homes"....................

Ah yes, Peter Cook on Revolver. I was a 16yr old Stranglers fan watchin' this and just loving it. Then I saw the Jam on Setting Sons tour Dec 79 and that was it. Listening to this for first time since, still sounds fuckin' great,...can recall the excitement of back then. Awesome is an overused term these days, but this, in it's true sense is Awesome !!!!

I remember watching this at the time it was broadcast , and thinking to my self what an awesome live performance . I seen them live the following year on the raven tour I think it was.....and I've seen them nearly every year since.....and they are still the best live band I've ever seen. I already have my tickets for October this year to see them. Can't wait.

Well said Paul.i agree the Stranglers are the best band to play live that I have seen.I have been to loads of live gigs and seen the sex pistols, the damned,undertones,P.I.L.the police, the ruts,SLF,the bunnymen, blondie, squeeze, madness, the beat, selector, the specials and UB40.In my opinion the Stranglers where top of the pile at playing live.they always give it 100%.they do not get the credit they deserve.😉

I believe that few bands have surpassed the run of albums from Black and White up to and including La Folie. Simple Mind's Empires and dance, Sons and fascination, Sister feelings call and New gold dream were pretty damn impressive too though.
