    Great vid, thanks for posting. The timing couldn't be better. Due to recent events, I've just lost my job at the local community college as the Studio Technician for Ceramics in the fine arts department. I'm converting the shed out back of the house to a small studio and have just started torch working. I took a one month course at The Crucible in Oakland about ten years ago, and did some glass blowing and torch work briefly at Penland about 5 years ago. Always wanted to get back to doing glass and here's my chance until things get back to whatever the new normal will be. Thanks for the simple but so useful tips!

    Watch out for those big flint spark starters. They ca deposit crud on the face of your torch if you do it a lot

      I have used small butane torches but they do take longer to heat up the piece and the fuel doesn't last long enough to finish the piece. Great video!

    do these smaller pieces require anealing?

    • @LuLibby
      @LuLibby  Před 3 lety

      The smaller they are the less stress can accumulate.... But the best pieces are always annealed... I have seen even soda bottle figurines that I have done survive for years without being annealed when they're really tiny

    If you got a triangular file you don't like and a grinder you can make a scoring knife takes less then 1 minutes if you're good on a grinder and you don't do the whole knife.

    • @LuLibby
      @LuLibby  Před 2 lety

      for soft glass you can get away with using a triangular file but boro glass is a little harder to scratch the surface

    • @LuLibby
      @LuLibby  Před 5 lety

      a torch like this will work but you would still have to get Didymium glasses.... tanks (propane and o2 )and or a oxygen concentrator and glass to repair with... also a small oven to anneal ( to heat up evenly and cool evenly) with as well...
