- The classic question -- what sort of hats look good with a kilt?
There are more options for hats you can wear with Highland dress than you might think. You don't have to limit yourself to a Glengarry or Balmoral hat. But good taste may be in the eye of the beholder.

Diced Glengarry are very handsome looking! My great uncle wore an diced glengarry during his time in the Canadian army (Calgary Highlanders).
For those of us who are lucky enough to be the daughters and sons of Alba, be they in Caledonia or spread out upon the earth, Tartan and Kilt are the signatures to our collective birthright.
Having said that, no other attire notifies others of a heritage like the Kilt, being first and foremost Scottish.
So wear the Kilt, as much as you can and as much as you want, and always with dignity and pride.
My dad wore a Glengarry while part of a pipe band, they are not comfortable and definitely feel ornamental rather than for everyday. I think the Tam is more casual and comfortable.
Normally I wear a black balmoral or a tweed flat cap. I am a seven days a week, Spring, Summer and Fall kilt wearer - one of the advantages of being self-employed and not having a work dress code.
Shilling and Fitz makes very nice military style tams. I have one and it's very good quality.
In north western Canada people don't hardly notice anyone wearing a kilt or Scots headgear like bonnets. I guess it has something to do with the fur trade. French and Indian clothing is common as well. All winter I wear a Capote and admit some of the older people are the ones that notice and complement me on it.
40+ yrs wearing the kilt. I wear a newsboy cap commonly, but my rule has always been never to wear a billed cap with the kilt. I prefer a balmoral, custom made, fuller than usual from some dark greyish blue wool I found in a fabric shop. Looks like woad dye. No torrie. Don’t like clan badges so I wear a small Celtic brooch pinned to a detachable cockade in my family colours of red, green & gold positioned over my left ear so I can bring the front down where the bill would be on a newsboy cap. Roll up a bandanna & stuff it in the front for a fuller look...then you always have a bandanna handy when you need one...
I have a blue tam with red pompom and trim, it's such a good hat that it's my daily wear hat
I think military berets look awesome with kilts, especially if you have something pinned onto it just over your left eye.
Don’t own a kilt yet, but I wear a blue bonnet as my favorite hat for all occasions.
I’m light sensitive due to my visual impairment, so I have a brim hat of some kind.
And always match your socks.
To something. I'd say it can vary as to what you match them to, but at least avoid cream/white.

I feel like newsboy cap is a broadly used term for any style flat cap from a 8 panel true newsboy cap all the way to a Boston Scally cap. Personally I like either a 6 panel which is a good bit sleeker looking hat! I also love Greek fisherman one piece or 6 panel crown, and a very plain Scally which I wear as any everyday which would equivalent of a one size fits all dad hats. Except the Scally is quite possibly the coolest looking, manly, rugged “flat cap”. I can wear it fishing, cutting fire wood, playin in a trad or punk band, just rub a damp warm rag if there are any small dirt or soiled spots and your ready for church!!!! But I digress keep it s sleek not over big and puffy or flat as a pancake. Give it some shape on the crown but not too high, and shorter brims and a hat you wear all the time because you can tell the character and history. Also how you can tell the soulless Right away when it’s pre sale distressed or faded, or worn model.

Can you make an EMS sporran I wear kilts often and looking to go through EMT training and want a sporran to get after I complete the training
You will want pants with thick knees. A kilt is not a good idea for EMS.
@@robertjensen1094 Not for work I have no intention of ever wearing a kilt to work I mean an EMS sporran for wearing to events to the pub and out in public
Not sure how close it is to what you want, but we do offer custom laser-etched sporrans. Our military branch day sporrans are one example of what they look like, though we have put the laser art on some other dressier designs too.

Disclaimer, I only own utility kilts thus far, but I’ve been rocking Kangol berets of late, a dark dark Forrest green wool that’s almost black at a glance, and a tropic one for hotter days. I love the type you see on Outlander (check out the books if you like the show) but they’re a bit extreme for me. Now I also wear all variety of flat cap as well from smooth fitting Boston Irish scally caps to Stetson driving caps to a Kangol one to a couple of Brixton kinda slimmed up newsies with less muffin top but the same overall design e.g. panels and button. Again, Thea work for me with my utility kilts, I’m not aiming for a traditional Scottish look but an American nod with a love of non-bifurcated bottom-half-wear. I say try it on, look in the mirror, if you like it, rock it with confidence. Oh. I’ve worn fedoras with them too but mainly to keep the rain out of my face. That’s not a combo I’d even wear generally, but to each their own. You do you!

What are your thoughts in wearing a beret (instead of a tam)?
(Even if not historically perfectly accurate, the Scots & the French were usually allies)
(I never thought I’d sound like a Scadian but here we go)
Done that myself, James, and very Scadian. Usually a Basque beret -- I like to pull it out pretty flat or a more one-sided pull like a rather stretched military silhouette, for showing off any SCA Badge I may bear. I've gone farther, with the big top I dub a bag-hat, like a rather larger, soft blue bonnet.
What tartans are you wearing?

I raging that called a flat cap more irsh it's the British isles in general not just irsh
it's mostly worn by Irish and English, i don't see Scots and Welsh folk wearing it that much

How do you get into a car with a kilt?
Very carefully so as to not flash anyone or mess up the pleats
Swoop the hem with your inbound hand.
This gets even more needful sitting on a metal folding chair your first day in a kilt. Swoop that hem to protect yourself!

Newsboys aren't much different from flatcaps in general.
