Husband-wife country duo, Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires, perform "Mutineer." Isbell's new album, Something More Than Free, will be available next month (July 2015).
Continue to rest well Mr. Zevon; your masterpiece is in extremely capable hands! This is quite simply beautiful, Jason and Amanda's rich talent, Warren's lyrics, and the haunting harmonica backdrop from Rafial could bring a tear to a glass eye, it sure as hell brought one to mine. Thank you SO much for posting this performance, it belongs in the Smithsonian 400OTD
Right, what 4000TD said. Warren was on Letterman during one of his last public performances. They were very close and Dave was a huge fan. This and a couple of other of Warren's ballads always bring a tear. Thank you.
If there really is a heaven out there, that's exactly where this match was made!! These two are absolutely beautiful together. So happy for them and so very glad for the impact Amanda has had on Jason's life!!
I knew that Amanda Shires had a beautiful voice and was a great violin and fiddle player, but last night was the first time that I sat down and listened to a little bit of her stuff. Holy hell, she just might be more talented than her husband Jason Isbell. These are two of the most talented singer, song writer and musicians of our time. and did I mention, daayum she is smoking hot.
Scott Reicheneker lol I’d have to disagree on talent but it’s clear that the gift of music was kind to them. I saw them not too long ago and me and my dad were like “wow she is really good looking” I’m 17 and my dad is 48😆
Mickey Raphael Is a superb Harmonica player and has play with Willie for years and tons of others and the dude never seems to age and he definitely don’t look like he’s he’s in his 70’s now.
Not sure how Warren would have reacted to Jason's: "Lightning flashed and thunder followed.". I'd be willing to bet he was proud of rhyming 'shadows' w/'followed us'. Other than that: A+.
Just seeing this for the very first time. Letterman continued to provide a platform for Warren's brilliance long after his death. Such a beautiful rendition.
I remember watching Zevon playing this on Letterman and you could tell the cancer was just eating him alive. He was struggling to get through it, but he finished like true pro. I think Dave even had to wipe some tears.
@@rse1113 Unsure if I'm late to the party with this one but his whole final appearance has been uploaded by the official Letterman account. czcams.com/video/giTi8KWSZl4/video.html
+crobarus He was probably wrecked. Warren Zevon was a close friend of his and this is one of his favorites of his songs. Zevon played it on the show just weeks before he died.
No matter how beautifully sung, this will always be Warren Zevon's song. He personified every word in every lyric. RIP Warren.
Yes but this is one of the best covers of the song. So sad they did not make it. I think Warren wrote this song for them.
Johnny and June man, freaking awesome
Neither Johnny or June were as musically talented as these two are. Loved J&J, but it's true.

This is so damn romantic, it makes me cry. Getting old and emotional is hell. ;)
So that's what's happening to me.
Jason should do a whole album of Zevon covers. I want to hear him do "My shit's Fucked Up"

An absolutely beautiful rendition of this Warren Zevon classic.
Wow, how have I not heard this. Sublime! Anyone that likes Zevon is worth the time to get to know.
Who says you can’t see love? And hear it clear as a beating heart.
😂 that’s why they’re divorced now

Jason is one lucky man
I love these two artists. and...I think she was pregnant with Mercy when they preformed this!!
yep, Mercy joined the band on Sept 1...but Amanda does show us why all pregnant women should wear evening gowns all the time.
Yes she was. Filled out beautifully
Wish this was on album
Find someone who looks at you like Jason Isbell looks at Amanda Shires.
What a beautiful performance. This vid should have 10 million views. the whole world needs to hears performances like this. it is that amazing!
Can't get enough of this, stunning.
Mickey Raphael Is a superb Harmonica player and has play with Willie for years and tons of others and the dude never seems to age and he definitely don’t look like he’s he’s in his 70’s now.
He’s simply the best of all time. He needs more recognition
Beautiful...Zevon would be proud

Super cool version-Warren is smiling
Just seeing this for the very first time. Letterman continued to provide a platform for Warren's brilliance long after his death. Such a beautiful rendition.
Lovely song by lovely people.
Lovely people. My friend calls them the modern day John and June.
The studio version is nice, but the harmonica just puts a beautiful lonely sadness on top.
Mickey Raphael is one of the all time greats.
Amazing. Just amazing.
Should have 1 million plus views..magic
so lovely!!!!
Last person on Earth to discover this.
I’ve said this and have gotten mixed reactions. I personally think Dave should induct Warren into the hall of fame!
Btw- Jason & Amanda kill this!
Good lord. Which one is best? They all absolutely kill it.
It's a beautiful cover but very well could have been a Jason original. Haunting and personal and just makes your soul feel things. Just stunning.
Love Jason and Amanda, but much respect to the greatest harmonica player of all time Mickey
Charlie McCoy is the King of the harmonica. Mickey would agree I think...
OUTSTANDING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SO GOOD!
The great Mickey Raphael on harmonica! Beautiful rendition.
last song Zevon played on his show
Last song by Zevon on Letterman was "Roland." Enjoy every sandwich.
Never forget WZ
so beautiful
Amazing peformance. Time to mutiny!
You got that right.
Just great thank you
I am not exactly believing these two were born to rock the boat.
Sweet as it gets.
Beautiful.
Beautiful ,Full Circle.
sublime
Perfect. Nothing wrong with this.
Thunder followed us!

Beautiful
Warren Zevon song :)
most beautiful.
Jason really missed an opportunity at the end there to say the album was SOMETHING MORE THAN FREE🤣
Harmonica guy.....a real pro.
Saw him play with Willie Nelson this past fall, Exclent player.
I feel like Jason really missed an opportunity at the end to say the album was something more than free😂
GHOST OF WARREN -MISSED FROM THE HEART TOMMY27
I sold weed to Jason once
Her pregnancy makes her even hotter 🔥👍❤
🤨
Is the harmonica in the key of D?
1 dislike... let's killem' !
Letterman sounded drunk. Or is it me? One of my favorite songs. Well done.
+crobarus He was probably wrecked. Warren Zevon was a close friend of his and this is one of his favorites of his songs. Zevon played it on the show just weeks before he died.
+crobarus Letterman has been sober x 20 something years.. please stop that!
+sandy rankin actually Mickey Raphael and Jasons wife also sober people..
OK
Jason is sober, Amanda is not an alcoholic and drinks occasionally.
How did they pick up Mickey Raphael for this performance?
...if Dallas Moore can get him...Jason Isbell certainly can...
You can hire Mickey but you have to work around Willie's schedule, he ain't getting off the bus until Willie does.
Great cover but nothing beats zevon
Don’t need the harmonica guy.
Mickey is terrific but this performance would have been better by subtraction.
No
my opinion.. this is a travesty
How so? The comments so far disagree, unanimously.
@@rockpaperscissors82 that's their opinion then; I still have mine, regardless of popular opinion.
Magnificent rendition of the Warren Zevon classic....Beautiful.
