- Prepping for a zombie apocolypse? No, just a 6 month trip to Alaska. Now that's a road trip!
Our extreme completely custom 5th wheel is built on a semi-trailer chassis with air suspension and air brakes. Completely loaded it weighs 42,000 lbs rolling down the highway. And we do roll down the highway nearly every week. You see, we believe that if your home has wheels they should be used.
We change latitudes and head north from Florida to finish our trip prep and re-locate the RV Armada.
We stay at a nice Harvest Host and the ladies brought us some goodies. It was a cold morning but we better get used to is as we head further north.
It's a nice trip to Alabama and the work begins.
Lots of boxes of food to pack and load into our Class C motorhome, Curiosity.
We think we're done and finished. We did lots of mods to the Class C at our friends house but we're going to show you in another video. There's just too many cool things we did.
RV Living at it's best.

I love watching you guys and your videos. Great content! Unfortunately, I usually watch on my 70 inch big screen TV, so I’m not able to comment. Sorry about that. Anyway today I’m watching on my iPad and I’m able to leave you this message. Enjoy your Alaska travels, I’ve been there many times. I loved it each time. 👍👍👍
Thanks for the comment, Dale. Always nice to hear from you. Appreciate your time watching the channel, no matter HOW you watch it! Lol. Have a great day.
My wife and I have OCD but you go to the extreme. You guys are so organized. Never thought to separate each month into a box.
Sondra is way worse than you know... 😆 🤣
Wow. There are lots of shops and groceries on the way, in Canada, and Alaska
Lol... lots and we love the Real Canadian Superstore but Sondra always over packs... we won't starve for sure!
David your driving skills are incredible- moving your huge rig and all the vehicles so smoothly‼️You 2 are both sooo organized- WOW‼️Oh my goodness Sondra - ALL. the work and planning you did for all the meals- you are amazing‼️SO ORGANIZED YOU BOTH ARE‼️👍😊
😆 Sondra did a lot of planning for our 6 months of meals. It worked out great. Moving the vehicles is smoother now, not so much the first time! 🤔😅😆
Well it worked with me it’s great to see people my age who haven’t been worn down by life. David is very punny just like me. I would like to know if he’s handy with the Dad jokes also.
Oh yeah, Jeff. Check out the Harvest Host Hopping and the Farm Tractor videos from last summer. Dad Jokes are my specialty.
I can't wait to see your Alaska adventure. You two are quite ingenious the way you prep!
Thanks Maggie, hmmm...you don't think it was a little "over the top"? LOL. We're excited that our trip is just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
I don’t like hooking up in bad weather either. We pull a car dolly and learned the hard way not to hook up in bad weather. We have had the car slide off couple times
We try to avoid bad weather hook-ups... but sometimes you can't help it.
Loved Your Video. Can you post your meal prep spreadsheet?
Thanks!
Thank you. It's our "favorite" meals. I'll check with Sondra and see if she's going to post it on our FB page.
Hi you two, I enjoy watching you. I'm 79, but not an RVer. I'm in aww of Dave driving that
looooong big rig. It's amazing. Love the trips. You go guy!😅😅
Aloha Sharon and welcome aboard. We're glad you're along with us on the journey. Alaska here we come!
I honestly don’t see why you don’t take the big truck up to Alaska, I have my space craft RV up here in AK. Alaska and Canada both have good restaurants and stores to buy food, so no need to store food for the trip. I own a trucking company up here in AK, I have a shop in Fairbanks, and my main shop here in Wasilla AK, plus I have a lot of land here in Big Lake AK, with full RV hookups, because my son and I take our 57’ Space Craft Toy Hauler out there every summer and spend the summer there fishing, riding ATVs and hunting. You are welcome to go there and set up, and spend as much time as you want, I have our boat, and ATVs in the pole barn, your welcome to that as well, you and your friends are welcome there always! Well-maintained gravel road in and out so you don’t have to worry about getting stuck. If this is something you are interested in, then let me know, and I will set you up.
Next time we will, Alexander but this will be a different trip than our first one in 2017 when we brought the semi truck. There are a few activities and places we want to go that we can't get to with our Big Rig. Such as camping at Denali NP further inside the park and driving the Dalton Highway up to the Arctic Ocean at Prudhoe Bay. There's several other places and routes we want to scout out so we can bring our big rig next time too. Plus we have some other activities planned on this trip that our rig definitely won't fit. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
Wow! I need so much more info on your meal and food prep! I’m so curious about the organization, the meals, why you prep by the month. I’ve never done a spread sheet in my life. Do you organize your pantry like this all the time? I would love a very in depth video, lol- maybe a class? I enjoy your travels and am looking forward to the next 6 months. Safe and fun travels!
Woohoo, Shawn, Sondra loves to organize stuff....she see's a Container Store...oh, she's all over it for sure! Appreciate your watching the channel. Thank you. 😎
Planning a trip to Alaska next year. My son lives in Fairbanks. Enjoy your channel. Safe travels
Fairbanks is a great place. We really enjoy the area. Enjoy the trip and visit with your son. Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
This going to be one amazing trip can’t wait.
We're excited for it, Georgiana and we're glad you're along with us on the journey. 😀
Prayers for safe travels. Thank you for taking us along on your journey!!!!
Appreciate that, Kimberly. We're excited about the summer trip planned. We're excited that it's just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
@@bigtruckbigtravels can you share your meal plans and menus. Planning a big trip. Would love ideas from your daily menu and grocery list
Sondra, we've chatted about our love of spreadsheets before, but I have to say, I have never seen someone prioritize and organize future food use so specifically in my life! Just WOW! And David, I think you need to get a portable roller conveyor (or section to fit) from one door to the other to transfer heavy big boxes between the two RV's! No need for injury before another adventure, no sir. But you did your manly duties without fail, or fall, thankfully. Looking forward to your trip to Alaska and seeing your version of it. Oh, can I ask a question? Since you two, like me, are color coordinated in the big rig set up, why the red Jeep for towing behind Curiosity? Surprises me. Are you planning modifications and maybe wrapping it or repainting one day to match? Just "curious", is all. Safe travels my RV friends!
The portable roller conveyor is a great idea! I surely needed them! Yeah, we struggled with the Jeep not matching the motorhome. We like red Jeeps and this one came up on our radar and was equipped exactly how we wanted so we pulled the trigger. We thought about a wrap or painting to match but time got away from us. Appreciate your time watching the channel and your comments. 😊
@@bigtruckbigtravels Hear that! I almost towed a burgundy Monte Carlo SS behind my Class A of White/Blue w/black/silver/gold graphics but my hitch weight kept me from doing it until I got a new white car to tow several years later. In between had a black 4x4 crew cab truck but had to have the traveling companion drive behind me due to tow weight. It's all good!
Great video. I enjoy your content. I can't wait to see the Alaska video!
We're excited that it's just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
Wow! That’s a lot of weight😅! Hats off to you. I am OCD about some things but cooking , not so much. More serendipity about food! Lol It’s been fun follow you. You two are great !!!😁😀
Thank you so much! Sondra loves to cook... and bullet journal too! Appreciate the comments. 😁
Thanks for the great video. We are planning a trip to AK this year (2024) and I now will definitely meal prep more after seeing this. I know it will save a lot of money. When I saw the #Whataburger. We are originally from Texas and all about Whataburger. We now live in Jacksonville Florida and thankfully we have one not far from us.
Thank you. We really enjoyed our Alaska trip last summer and the meal boxes were great. Especially since we spent a lot of time in the backcountry and not real close to stores. I love Whataburger...Sondra puts up with it, she actually likes the chicken and Patty Melt. Appreciate your time watching the channel. We have a planning video and a video of our itinerary which we posted on our FB group, Big Truck Big Travels.
Sondra gets organized, and David gets the exercise
Lol, Glenn, it keeps me young! Thanks for the comments.
Thanks for sharing 😊
You're welcome, Peter. Thanks for the comments. 😃
Thanks guys for sharing your life and wow so organised love it looking forward to the journey and adventures
Appreciate that, Simon. We're excited that Alaska is just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
Help Help I need help. I want to see how you meal plan and grocery list. I have wonderful grocery lists but I never am able to connect meals to ingredients to shopping! I would love to see an example of set meals with shopping ingrediencies . thank you PS David has the greatest PARTNER in the world!
Hey, Bill, Sondra has recipes for all our favorite meals. We do a meal plan each week for what we're going to eat. The days may shift around but we'll generally eat the meal planned within the week. Take the recipe ingredients and determine what you have in inventory then purchase the rest for that week. Being a little OCD helps... 😆 🤣.
Seems Fun..Good Channel
Lots of fun. We're very fortunate to be able to enjoy this lifestyle. Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
Thaks and travel safe!!
Thanks, Marco. Appreciate your comments and your time watching the channel. 😊
I’m excited to see your journey to Alaska 😃 have a safe journey 😉
Thank you, Joyce!! It's a fun trip! You need to check out our latest ones as the views are fantastic! and we're eating pretty good! LOL
Amazing videos
Thank you. We're hopeful that they are fun and informative to watch but also capture our memories. Appreciate your time watching the channel.
I look forward to the Alaska trip videos. Be careful of the frost heaves. 30 years ago my family made a trip up and we were not ready for the frost heaves that make the road wavy.
Oh man, that is so true. We went up in 2017 in our DRV and Volvo and the frost heaves were killer. Especially around Destruction Bay and 15 miles south of the Alaska border. We take it slow and easy. No damage then and we hope to have a repeat this year. We're excited that it's just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
Save a lot of wear and tear on your rig, and book a cruise….. with Multiple stops and return to Seattle, WA or Vancouver, BC. The coast scenery is fantastic, and the cruise ship offer several side trips, scenery that you never get too see driving. Given the cost of fuel in Canada, you might want to cut the driving short….. enjoy your holiday whichever you choose…..
The drive up the Alcan is part of the experience. The journey is the destination... but we are going to add a few different routes up there. Also, for us, we feel an RV is meant to roll on down the road and it's part of the experience that we actually enjoy. Thanks for the comment and we appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
I really enjoy your videos and I'm looking forward to your adventures on the way to Alaska!
Thank you very much, Carol. We're really excited about it and where we can go with the Class C. Glad you're along on the journey. Appreciate your comments and your time watching the channel. 😊😎
Interesting video to watch--wonderful job planning Sondra! As you were storing the boxes in the overhead part of your class C, I was wondering what the weight limit was. Curious if in a later video we'll get a review of how well the monthly food boxes worked. Certainly saving a lot of money taking food to Alaska instead of buying it locally.
Glad I came back to watch the full series--had watched a later video and figured you must be travelling with someone but wasn't sure.
We were careful with the weight and did not exceed the capacity for the bunk... but, I think it can't handle the rated capacity so we've put less up there. Food boxes doing great. They've come in handy.
We have a 2023 XG32, please watch oit for that weight in thd cabover. I know David is hands on like me, but the joint that holds the cabover to the coach is a known failure point. Please beware and safe travels.
We've heard about the cab failure point so we'll keep it under the limit but also I think we'll reposition the load. Thanks for the heads up. It seems to be an issue in more than just a few units. Appreciate your comments.
😂😂 If I was a Customs official at the border & saw those boxes, Sondra would cry as I unpacked everything "just to check" .
You googled to check if there there are shops with food in them up north, did you? 😂😂
Just kidding. Well prepped guys. Hope you have safe travels and good weather.
Oh man, Glen, if that happens with Customs...I will try to get it on camera...🤔😂🤣We're excited that the trip is just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
You guys are amazing, what planning. Excellent job. I'm learning so much from you pros preparing me for when we go full-time next year. Maybe you addressed it, but why don't you just take Orion to Alaska
Thank you very much. We did address it in the video but basically, there are some places we want to go this time that we can't take Orion/Voyager due to their size (Denali NP has size restrictions). Next time we go up, we're bringing the house!
Sorry have been a Follower for while been very jealous of your entire rig wishing my wife would sign off on going full time with our three kids and two dogs
Keep at it, James...she may break down one day, you never know. 😁🤣
Hi. Im from Ontario Canada the diesel is $1.55 a lite that take 4 lites to one USA gallon. But have good time see your family.thank you for your time put on u tube
Hi Stephen, fuel is expensive in Canada but we love the Yukon Territory. Always good to see family. I hope you're doing well. Thanks for the comment. 😃
Great video! Looks like all of your supplies are border crossing acceptable.
Thanks, Charlie. We sure hope so. Staying away from poultry this time! Enjoy the Forge! 😊
Yep. We read the Canadian requirements multiple times just to be sure. 😊
Good knees 👍🇺🇲. Nice Joshua Tree shirt, I live in yucca valley
Nice area in Yucca Valley, Boba. We really enjoyed Joshua Tree...and yes, the knees held up! LOL. Thanks for the comment and appreciate your time watching the channel. 😁
@@bigtruckbigtravels any time 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
David, I would have thought you'd have cameras on the back of Orion.
Hi Don, I do! Security cameras on the sides and rear that go to a 1TB storage. Great question!
Wow that’s a lot of food. Must not be going to experience any of the wonderful eating places that really make a trip 😢
We'll be in some remote areas with no access to shopping for a few weeks at a time, Kathy, so Sondra wanted to be prepared. Oh, We'll be experiencing some restaurants along the way. Teslin, Buckinghorse and near Destruction Bay have some eateries we'll enjoy for sure. Thanks for the comment. 😃
Sondra, I really admire your food preparation method. For sure I’m going to follow the way you did ❤
She was very thorough, Tiffany and detailed in how she approached the meal plans. I think we'll not starve on this trip! Thanks for the comments. 😃
Happy Easter and have a safe trip. Enjoy your time with your family and keep an eye on the tornados. Only thing Sondra did not pack was a supply of WHATABURGERS.
Thank you and Happy Easter to you. Sondra did not pack any Whataburgers but she did pack the Whataburger Pepper Sauce that they use on the Patty Melt burger so that is close enough! Thanks for the comments and appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
Cait wait to see the new adventures. I live not 10 minutes from where you were staying in Eustis. I wanted to stop by and say Hey, but did not want you feel like I was stalking ya....
Hey Mike, you should have come on by! We enjoy saying "hi" to everyone.
We're enjoying your channel. And we look forward to start watching your Alaska journey. Is food much more expensive to buy when you get to Alaska?
Thank you, Jennifer. In the bigger cities like Anchorage and Fairbanks, Food is about 10-15% more than in the lower 48. Once you get out into the smaller communities, it really doubles! Milk as high as $9/gal, cereal at $10/box and 12 pk soft drinks are $13 as examples. Great trip, lots of fun. Enjoy! Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
The cop was probably scoping out your RV. It is really cool. 😎
😂 probably. It's just they normally check it out from the side more and not as much from the rear. 😊 Thank you for the comment.
I'm looking forward to your Alaska videos. Our pantry look like this (x20) when COVID kicked off.
Oh yeah. Sondra had us stocked up in '20. Lol. Fun summer with lots of boondocking. Appreciate your time watching the channel. Hope you're doing well.
As a nurse I couldn’t breathe watching you move those heavy boxes! Lol. Trauma alert! Trauma alert . Strong 💪🏻
Lol... that's funny! They were heavy but it keeps me young! Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
OMG....They DO have grocery stores in Alaska
😆 🤣 oh yeah... they're just expensive!
It’s cool, your daughter lives in Alabama. We are from Tuscaloosa
Hey, Tuscaloosa has a Whataburger too! She enjoys it. Thanks for the comment. 😃
Was great to see you both yesterday. Had I know about this latest video I would have insisted on a personal organization in depth training session with you. I'd fail big time, but I'm sure I'd gather a bit of wisdom.
Lol... great seeing you and thanks again for lunch. Sondra would have enjoyed the "organization seminar"! Glad you made it back safe. 👍
Hi guys... Jeanne has always been a planner...but she says you are the queen of that 🤣🥰👍👍...looking forward to your trip...thanks for the video...stay safe...J&A 🙋♀️🙋♂️
J&A, Sondra was definitely very detailed in her food prep plan. She had multiple spreadsheets going and all kinds of highlighting! It should be a fun trip. Thanks for the comment. 😃
Love your video's and both of you are enjoy to watch
Thank you William. We enjoy sharing our journey and a little bit of life on the road. 😊
Not only does Alaska have grocery stores, Alberta Canada has them too. And I might add, a lot cheaper than we’ve been paying all winter long in the USA. If you get your groceries in Canada you will also get an additional 35% savings in the foreign exchange rate. Just saying. Keep on keeping on Guys and enjoy your trip. !!!
Of course, Keith, you've been in California so it's a little pricier but you have a very good point on the exchange rate! Oh, we're hitting the Real Canadian Superstore as soon as we cross. 😊
@@bigtruckbigtravels look at y’all go!!! The Superstore is hard to beat for pricing. We cross back into Vancouver tomorrow. Looking forward to getting back into Canada and ultimately home for a month before we set off on our summer adventure. Be well!!
Your butts ringing had me laughing....I am always impressed with how you guys manage such a big rig.
Lol, Larry, every time we see this video we check our phones during that segment! 😅😂 Life on the road. Appreciate your comments. 😊
Wow sandra is a heck of a boss probably has a whip behind her back. Lol
LOL...no whip, Loyd, but I think in this case it's a "can opener"! 🤣😂Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
Enjoyed watching your preparations for the Alaskan trip. Something tells me there is an engineer or maybe two in the family.
David, I am curious how long you have been planning this trip and how you went about deciding your route and places to stay?
Safe Travels
Off and on since about November last year. We have the Milepost book and relying on our past experience for Alaska. Lol... there is only 1 engineer in the family.😂 Thank you for the comment.
Another interesting video, cant wait for the next one
We're getting closer to Alaska for sure. This was a different one for sure but the trip starts soon. Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
I just thought I knew some OCD organizers !!! Love it and wish I had 1/2 the discipline you have on organizing. Safe travels
Hmmmm...Mike, is it discipline...or just a weird way to spend a weekend?!? LOL. Thank you so much for the comment. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for watching the channel. 😊
Food plans, May through to September. I can't remember what I had for lunch, hilarious. Safe travels
Thanks Brendan for the comment. That's why she created a spreadsheet. We now know what we're having for lunch on June 3rd! 🤔😉🤣
(Nevermind) lol glad to see David don't have to put the bikes together every time you want to ride..😂😂
It's really nice, David. We have to cover them from the elements but they are so much easier to get ready to ride. Thanks for watching the channel. 😁
That cop was using u as a shield so oncoming traffic could not see him in time to slow down to avoid his radar🤬
Lol... that could be
...haha, we're quite the shield though! Thanks for the comments. 😃
can't wait to watch this trip to Alaska
Us too, Helen! We're excited that it's just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
That is going to be one heck of a trip.
Yes sir, Larry. We're excited that it's just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
I saw you guys today going through Illinois
That was definitely us. We drove through St Louis after lunch. Traffic was light which was nice. Good weather today. Thanks for the comment. 😃
@@bigtruckbigtravels you're welcome and you have a nice rig
Lol you two are funny prepping food for Alaska, you expecting to find no grocery stores in Alaska. Lol... I guess it's a good idea if you have the room, atleast you need to purchase very little while up there. I must say you guys are very organized, I can get with that. I own a class b so everything has its place and purpose, but it's interesting to see class a / class c people be this organized.
If you're in a Class B, Mike, then you are definitely organized! We've always been this way (even when we lived in a stick & brick) so it's just modifying to suit our space...which is a lot less in the Class C than in our Big Rig. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
Can't wait until may comes because Alaska here we come. Have a safe trip up there
Oh yeah, Barbara. It's going to be fun. Fasten your seat belts. We're heading to the last frontier. We're excited that it's just a few weeks away. Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
We are leaving for Alaska also on May 15th. Maybe we will see y’all on the road. Will be driving a Thor Hurricane, name kinda fitting coming from South Alabama. Crossing the border at Mackinaw Island.

Wow, now that is prepping! Love Watching the Videos!
You guys were in my town, Gadsden! Beautiful Campground on the river at River Rock campground in Gadsden.
I go to Huntsville to work about ever week. Would love to meet you guys, maybe one day after Alaska trip. Enjoy your trip, cannot wait to take notes at where you stay at. Take care and God Bless!
Hey Rodney, that would be cool. Huntsville is a neat area... really growing fast! Wow. Yep, traveled through Gadsden. Good fuel prices on that area too.😊
@@bigtruckbigtravels looking forward to the upcoming videos on your trip to Alaska. That is on my bucket list, one day. By the way y’all have a beautiful fifth wheel! Take care and safe travels! May God keep a hedge of protection around you guys! Happy Easter!
Don't you hate that when someone pulls in that close behind you, you know they are looking at their computer while driving. They do that often but it still bothers me if you need to stop will you lock up afraid they will get hurt? Anyways glad he pulled off. Awesome packing of groceries that will make the food you do need to buy a lot less, just perishables. Hope you guys are staying safe and healthy.
Thanks, Badger. Exactly! We're just afraid that if we had to stop for some reason that the officer wouldn't be able to react fast enough. Anyway, it's all good. We're keeping it between the ditches, hope you are too! Thanks for the comments. 😃
I was wondering why the class c, are you selling the HDT. You are living my bucket list. I want to do Alaska. I can’t wait to enjoy your trip and thanks for all the videos.

You are living my dream! Love the journey!
We're glad you're along on the journey, Jeffrey. Thanks for the comments. 😊
We love your videos! The great Alaska trip is on our agenda also. Going to spend our 25th Anniversary in Alaska, leaving May 15th. Our route is from South Alabama to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario to Alaska. This is our first time, so I have a question. About how much Canadian cash should we need and can we use our credit/debit cards there? We appreciate any advice. Thanks, Traci.
Thank you so much. Great route, just a thought, fuel is much cheaper in the USA. Most everywhere accepts credit cards, just make sure your card is ok for Canadian transactions and what they charge for it. There are instances such as staying in Provincial Parks, laundromat and when an area has no service for the card machine so I would bring some cash. $500 Canadian should be sufficient depending on how long you spend in country and what you plan to do.
I didn't see any bags of Diet Coke syrup!! I think I would need a few!
Lol... oh, they're coming but will be the last items purchased to insure good date codes. The question is where do I pack them? Thanks for the comment. 😃
And I'm looking forward to your Alaska trip videos. ❤😂
Us too. It will be fun. Glad you're along on the journey. 😊

Thanks, Matt. It will be fun... but a lot of driving to even get to the border. Looking forward to it.
There are grocery stores in Canada and Alaska!😂
Yes there are but not as many where we'll be going. We love the Real Canadian Superstore BTW. Thank you for the comment. 😊
I know that this trip will not be like any other. Sondra very engineer like in your meal planning. Can't wait for this epic trip.
It will be a blast, Wayne. Very different from our first AK trip. Glad you're along on the journey. 😊
I'm happy to see that you guys are taking it slow and safe when need be. I'm not sure what I would do without the videos. For real though, I really love the channel and am so happy to be here at a point where you respond (I hope your able to continue as one day you may be too big to do so). CZcamsrs that use the comments like they should be used to interact is awesome. It makes the experience much more wholesome. Anyways, looking forward to seeing the trip. Is it icy where you are going? If so be prepared and stay safe!!!!
Thank you for the comments. We've definitely grown faster than I thought we would. We usually take it slow since we're retired...I mean, what's the hurry?!? 🤣 It should not be icy or snow on the roads by the time we head north to Alaska but we have snow socks for the tires so we're prepared. Nice to hear your normal and have musical butts , nearly choked on my coffee ! Whilst I thought I was OCD you just took it to a higher level with food purchase s. Can I ask whats the thinking behind swopping rigs to a super C is your own rig not capable or are the roads so much smaller / rougher.
Thanks for the question and the roads are rough in places but that's not the reason we are swapping. We know with our size there are some limitations but we like to travel so that's why the Class C. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
We want to make the trip, maybe get a couple of rv's to got with us, hoping to find someone that has made the trip before. I am looking forward to seeing your trip north.
It's a lot of fun and a very different kind of road trip. I think we're prepared.. lol... it will be an adventure. We've already changed our itinerary to add a few areas. Woohoo! Here we go! Thanks for the comment and we appreciate your time watching the channel. 9
Can’t wait to see and come along on your trip. Can you do a map of the trip your going to travel?
We're going to do it as we travel because there may be alternate routing depending on many variables...weather, animals and scenery. Sondra has the map ready though so it's going to happen. Appreciate your comment. 😊
Hope you go through my home town of Lethbridge Alberta? I’ll be in the USA 🇺🇸 when your travelling up towards Alaska
You have 18 wheels and 10 brakes
Yes, thanks. Sondra had the right idea and we can stop the rig very quickly. Lol. She did get the point across but thank you for the clarification. Appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
PRAYING FOR SAFE TRAVELS
Thank you, Jenny. We are safe and sound and getting back to "normal mode" after the Alaska trip. We have a few more videos on our summer trip but we are getting everything back together for our fulltime lifestyle. It's Big Rig time...well, pretty soon anyway!
I thought your comments about the police officer were a bit off color. Kindness is always the best policy, even more so now with a profession that has really taken a beating the last three years. I hope a police officer is very close if you ever need one.
Hey Sherry, not sure what "off color" comment you were referring to?!? 🤔 We have several friends who are/were law enforcement officers and we have a lot of respect for what they do. Our concern with the police car following so close was that if we had to brake suddenly then he may not have had time to react. Thank you for the comments. 😄
I really was hoping that cop wasn’t going to pull you over. Thank god have you guys ever been pulled over?
Hey Shane. We have never been pulled over nor have we ever been questioned by law enforcement as to the "legality" of our setup. We always keep it below the speed limit and stay on the right side usually. Thanks for the comments. 😃
Ok, curious...you have Montana plates from Flathead county, I'm from MT Lincoln County, currently living in Texas... but you don't live there, I'm so confused! 😂
Hey Nicky, we domicile out of Texas but Montana allows a little more flexibility from an insurance and liability standpoint since we travel fulltime across all 50 states. Love Texas (and Whataburger). Thanks for watching.
Good luck taking a Thor product to Alaska-Better bring all your tools 🤷♀️
LOL...Mary, there is much truth in what you say! We have taken it for a few "shake down" tours and have fixed several items already. We've been to Alaska and know that we must be cautious on the roads regarding frost heaves (esp near Destruction Bay). However, with that being said...we are bringing tools! Glad you're along on the journey. Thanks for the comment. 😊
Hea guys is it not safe for the big rig in Alaska or just to big overall. Nice truck by the way. I'm a retired truck driver. But sure is a nice rig and better to drive normally then the smaller ones. Sure hope you guys enjoy your trip. 😊
We'd rather take the big rig but size is an issue on this trip. We took it in 2017 and we'll take it again on our next trip. 😃
Hi. I find you both funny, with a little dry humor, but in general, FUNNY. I'm from the Greater Toronto Area, in Southern Ontario, Canada. I like your rigs. You don't own them all,DO YOU? I used to enjoy traveling by train mostly 😅. I'm 64 now,and in serious pain 24/7. Things my dad did when I was growing up. I take it 1 day at a time now. But,enjoy watching (binge) you videos. Stay safe my friends. And easy on the lifting!
Hope today is a good day for you. We do own all the rigs but "share" the Class C with our daughter when we're not using it. Some of our humor is corny too! Glad you're along on the journey. Alaska will be fun. Thank you for the comments and appreciate your time watching the channel. 😃
Wow that was impressive. The menu fascinates me. When you are on the road do you stick to it? Or is it more of a suggestion for that day?
Great question, Tammy. It's definitely a guideline but if we don't have a "taste" for anything in particular then we stick to the menu...but we always select from the menu even though the days won't match...that is of course, unless we see something unique and tasty in our travels then we'll eat out. Such as there is a killer breakfast in Teslin, Buckinghorse and really good fish n' chips in Skagway on the water. Thanks for the comment and appreciate you watching the channel. 😎
Have you checked on crossing the Canadian border, and what food stuffs are allowed, the border guards may want to open all your boxes? I see you have listed the contents of the boxes which may help. Anyway have a great trip.
Great question, Rick. We have read the regs and we're in compliance both in what we're bringing and how much too. We'll visit the Real Canadian Superstore after we cross to get the produce, dairy and any poultry items. Thanks.
How was David’s back after all those boxes?
Lol 😆 😆 I needed a break after that...
Love your videos but you do know Alaska has supermarkets, Costcos, Walmart, Target, etc. right?
Sorry but the 500 pounds of food for a simple trip to Alaska is hysterical🤣
Hope you two enjoy Alaska and Welcome to be Best State in the Union!!!
We were in AK for the summer of 2017...and yes, we know there are supermarkets up in the 49th state. But we're going to be in areas with very little shopping options for a few weeks at a time so Sondra wanted to be prepared...I think she accomplished that! We're looking forward to it. Love Alaska. Glad you're along with us on the journey. 😎
I thought they have Walmarts in Alaska too, why not buy them there instead of carrying all the way there. At best, one month of food should be plenty? Will follow you on the trip, would like to go there one day. Safe trip!
They do, Timmy but we'll be spending weeks in areas with sparse shopping options and there are certain foods items we like that you may not be able to get in Alaska. We're doing the trip a little differently this time and we'll see how it goes. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment. 😃
You got a prefect house on wheels with the Volvo and the trailer. Why drive up north to swap vehicle? Your rig would handle Alaska.
You are correct. Our rig could easily handle the trip. Actually, we took our 44 foot DRV Houston fifth wheel and this Volvo truck on a 4 month trip up to Alaska and through Canada as well. It did fine and we really enjoyed it. So much that we're going back this year but we want to go to some places and routes that our big rig is too big for such as camping in Denali NP and driving up to Prudhoe Bay on the Dalton Highway plus a lot of other areas that we may need 4 wheel drive. We are also scouting for a future trip to Alaska that we will take our home up with us. Thanks for the comment. 😎😁😊
