Hearing a lot about Naomi Scott as Jasmine, and of course Will as the Genie. Not so much about Mena Massoud who plays the titular character of Aladdin. The way people go about this movie, you'd think Jasmine and Genie were the only characters. Mena/Aladdin himself needs more love.
Yet again even in original, I think Aladdin is the character you remember the least. Everyone likes the genie, Jasmine sells the most toys, Aladdin is different though, not bad or anything but different.
@@Ironwaterson5219 He's certainly a more well rounded character I think and deserves more credit. He starts out a lovable and witty 'street rat' who is still generous, unselfish, considerate, fast on his feet, and willing to stick up for those who are too small or weak to stick up for themselves. He's not perfect though, he wishes for money and status and basically lies about who he is to Jasmine---and it shows through out the film that he starts to feel guilty about it and regret his lies and deceit.
It's through some fault of his actions that Jafar gains the lamp and takes control of Agrabah---Jafar banishes and attempts to kill Aladdin far off to some snowy mountain and Aladdin could easily have said "Well this sucks but I'm still alive, I've got the carpet and my monkey, I'll just take off and let Jasmine & the rest of the kingdom deal with Jafar" but he doesn't! He goes back to face Jafar and save Jasmine and the kingdom even if it costs him his own life. Then at the end of the movie, he's given one last chance to make himself a Prince but instead wishes for the Genie's freedom. Aladdin isn't perfect but he learns from his mistakes and tries to be better, and ultimately does a lot of wonderful and unselfish things. The character himself deserves more praise and credit than Genie and Jasmine combined.

How anyone can hate on Will Smith makes no sense to me. Dude is always positive and funny. I'm a huge fan of Aladdin and he looks to be a great Genie... The guy playing Aladdin on the other hand....

Can't wait to see this movie! I think he'll do a great job as Genie! Putting his own spin on it is the best thing he could do, because no one wants an imitation. Plus, if you like the Fresh Prince or just Will Smith's personality in general, I can't see how you could not embrace his version of Genie. Humans are always so ready to compare and critique, but never willing to simply just sit back and enjoy something by itself, for what it is and what it's meant to be.

That is such a rare thing in Hollywood. Most stars let their fame go to their heads. Jennifer Lawrence has become irritating - I'll always stand by her performances as Katniss Everdeen because she NAILED that character but she seems to think her own farts smell like roses - and Brie Larson is a downright vile person. Russell Crowe picks fights because he knows he can get away with it, Robert De Niro yells "Orange Man Bad" to the heavens and Mark Hamill has degraded himself by becoming another troll on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Will Smith is so humble and in tune with us mere mortals that he created his own CZcams channel, which most people in Hollywood would think is beneath them.
No one can top Robin Williams’ Genie but Will Smith did an incredible job as Genie! After seeing the movie I give him an 9/10

I think more people were disappointed with his overall character design not so much the actor.
pretty sure nobody complained he was the genie. it was the way he was a dumb CGI blue and then combined with the other cast and trailer. hooooo boy
I don't think it's racism, but due to the fact that Will Smith (nor anyone else) is not Robin Williams. Any person taking this role is going to get hate due to them not being Robin Williams, as he so defined the role.
And yes, the dumb blue CGI didn't help, but that's not the movie's fault. Robin was simply the voice and was never a blue creature. But since this is a live action movie, you're going to see Will dressed as genie.

Will Smith managed to achieve what he set out to achieve. This interview isn't just lip service. If you watch the movie, you can see he threw everything he had into the Genie while still being respectful of Robin William's original incarnation. The Aladdin remake as a whole probably won't age well but I think Will Smith's performance will because he made the Genie his own without tarnishing Robin Williams' legacy. I think Robin would be proud of him.
