    Stick noise is no joke. Playing Gundam was legitimately keeping my wife and kids up at night, at least until I bought dampened Sanwas and added a little bit of thicker foam after about eighteen months of wear. It really does make a difference (as did the 4lb tension spring I added, but that’s another story altogether).

    Unfortunately I think I need very thin foam for the 24mm buttons on my stickless build. The 24mm silencers I found for the format have a noticeable difference in how sensitive the buttons are to a press, so I have to deal with loud left, right, and down buttons while my up button and 8 normal buttons are all appropriately quiet, because they're the 30mm buttons that were easily silenced.

    • @yeetkunedo
      @yeetkunedo Před 2 lety

      I had the same issue until about two to three weeks in. I think when the foam is fresh, it dampens your inputs as well as the noise because it’s resisting the entire button press, but as the foam begins to wear, the exact pressure of the strike begins to imprint itself into the foam, at which point you reach this ideal middle ground of responsiveness and quietness.

    • @gamelord12
      @gamelord12 Před 2 lety

      @@yeetkunedo I tried it for a while. I tried like really hammering on the button to make the foam compress faster. But I was missing too many inputs, so they had to go. I think sanding is my next step.

    • @yeetkunedo
      @yeetkunedo Před 2 lety

      @@gamelord12 I learned that “compressed faster” isn’t going to happen unless you have a machine to make each button take repeated strikes. It’s less of a “how hard do I use it to break it in” and more of a “how long do I use it before it begins to break in” thing. Sanding it might work, but foam tends to fray, which can make the problem worse when it comes to buttons sticking.

    Slightly related, if you have mechanical cherry/gateron etc. switch buttons, you can buy small o-rings (if you don't know what that is, you can google it and probably buy them at the hardware store) and just put them in where the plastic would otherwise make contact with the switch
    Though this won't reduce the noise made by the switch itself such as the click of a blue switch

    Great Video
    The biggest issue in fighting games is that it's mostly about repetition & as someone working on a fighting game it will be fixed. Because the arcade Fighter is trapped in over 20 years in the past, while simulator Fighters such as UFC & FIGHT NIGHT have surpassed then but lack the flash. Big things are coming

    • @yeetkunedo
      @yeetkunedo Před 2 lety +1

      “The biggest issue” isn’t something you can place into a single box. The problems that hold fighting games back from being as popular as they once were is a multifaceted topic with an equally multifaceted set of solutions.

    • @holdthetruthhostage
      @holdthetruthhostage Před 2 lety

      @@yeetkunedo bro it truly is repetitive nature of it, & a lack of reality man. As well as some more. I will give you an example I can't go to far as I would give away the fighting game I'm working on.
      COD = You need to reload when using projectile weapons, which makes you think about how much & when you should use it
      MOST FIGHTING GAMES: Can spam the projectile attacks, only worrying about the reset time of the move. Which just makes it predictable, & repetitive & dull.
      FPS/TPS = Inputs easy almost universal but require the right moment to use it & awareness of how your opponent will utilize it.
      Fighting Games:
      Inputs deliberately made unsimplified as a reason for skill requirements when this only makes the game far more difficult for more players to participate, only fighting games promote confusing inputs that limit the amount of players that can participate. Up Down Left Right Punch for a special attack where the character runs forward. It just destroys the potential amount of players that can play. Even though STREET Fighter 2 The most successful fighting game ever since it launched the game to the mainstream had very simple inputs.
      Best example of this is SMASH BROS simple inputs yet such as an FPS/TPS high skill requirements to be one of the best.

    • @goranisacson2502
      @goranisacson2502 Před 2 lety

      One on one fighting games won't ever be as popular as they once were because people don't like to lose when they have no one to blame but themselves. Mortal Kombat and Smash Bros are the only outliers because MK can use a fuckton of WB money to give people flashy singleplayer content that lasts for a very long time (and the big name guest stars probably help) and Smash is the biggest cross-over ever who can afford to build absolutely massive rosters with, again, a ton of extra singleplayer content. Plenty to criticize of modern fighting games, true, but if one thinks altering the fundamental gameplay is the key factor to success over just having enough money to splurge on extra content... I just can't believe in their vision. If it was up to the core gameplay loop, rather than having enough money to splurge on stuff outside the core gameplay loop, we'd see one of these games with "more intuitive inputs" or what have you effect some real change in the market. And yet, here we are...

      @@yeetkunedo And yet, games with in-depth in-game tutorials aren't seeing more success than games without, because they don't have the money to advertize themselves or have the visual style to break through to the mainstream.
      Cards on the table- I do believe one on one fighting games ARE a niche that won't ever get as popular as they once were because they occupied a FAR larger niche in the past. They were the most straightforward and simple ways to digitally compete against other people in the past. If you wanted to compete against others in general, fighting games were the king in the ring- yes yes yes FPS and LAN parties did exist, but using computers weren't as widespread and demanded some slight more setup than just popping in a quarter. Now we have arena shooters on phones and computers in nearly everyones house, so the straight-forward FPS and MOBA games took the fighters lunch money. We are simply a smaller niche these days, and we're not getting that place back because the fundamental draw of our games don't allow for the same ease as those other games.
      I admit, this is my central belief. And I honestly saw nothing in that video to disprove me. I admit I'm perhaps not getting what he wants to say- I don't mock people who are newbies, which the video spent a lot of time touching on. And I do believe fighting games could be doing a better job to teach their methods to newcomers. But quite frankly, I'm just not seeing anything in that video that says fighting games could be a bigger niche again if they had better tutorials or were easier to learn. All I'm seeing in the world around me, is that the biggest fighting games are big because they get a FUCKTON of money poured into them, far more than most. Until the day comes when it's financially viable for Capcom to spend Resident Evil money on street Fighter, just to make an example, I just do not see that changing.

    My own ideal button's ended up being standard Sanwa's with Seimitsu 0.5 springs and foam silencers...
    Not only do they return to neutral as fast as you let go, but it's really REALLY hard to get them to make much sound no matter how hard you mash on them... 😅
    As for the stick I personally love the Seimitsu Bullet Lever for being both quiet enough and very actuate without making your gameplay a comedy show of fumbled inputs...
    IMO Sanwa's JLF is a really good stick for most people, but it's intentionally quite a bit less accurate both for a wider range of game support (Jack of all trades, Master of none) and as a result of being minimalized enough to more easily fit into a wider array of potential housings...
