I used to be a Sub Operator in the 1970's. I still think it's the best, most imaginative attraction in the Park.

Used to be, the finding Nemo one is horrible. I only remember this ride vaguely because I was so young, did the submarine completely submerge back then or only partially like it does now?

It was never completely underwater, it’s all simulated once you go through the first cave. I do miss the older theming; sucks it had to go but I’ve seen lesser attractions come and go throughout the years. The subs at the Anaheim park were built by the same company that built the real ones for the navy and when inspected a few decades later were found to be still in remarkable shape which could last another 50 years of service they felt.

Hey, this is an excellent effort! You have successfully recreated the experience of the original ride-through in a way that nobody’s dated VHS footage alone would ever be able to provide. I can’t imagine a better reconstruction, given what there is to work with. Bravo!

May be HD, but you can still barely see the giant squid. If you ever saw it with your own eyes, it stuck out like a sore thumb!

They totally messed this ride up. That was one of the coolest rides at Disneyland. The sound effects of narration gave you a real submarine scientific field. Now it’s a joke. And the haunted mansion was closed down when I went yesterday. They said they’re not going to open it until 2025. I certainly hope they’re not going to destroy that as well. They should just leave well enough alone.

No the Mansion is too iconic to overhaul completely. DL’s is just down for refurb and improving effects like they do every 6 years or so.

It is the same track today as it was then....at least the layout. They have rebuilt the actual track and electrified the Submarine engines. When I was there, the Subs were diesel. The Subs always were at the level you see, although the bubble screens and going under the waterfalls, make it seem you are submerging. As the Subs basically float in the track( guide rail) the water level in the lagoon needs to be maintained at a certain level, lest the Subs either scrape the track, or, float off the track. This did happen, for a variety of reasons. Then you would need to get a tow rope and pull the errant Sub back onto the track or spur.

I used to go this ride when I was child in the 90s but I remember seeing more mermaids. I think they had Ariel one but it could have been an old animatronic but the mermaids usually creeped me out for some reason.

they later drained the lagoon and reopened it in 2007. They later sold the sea serpent animatronic in 2018.

Aw, a valiant effort but the AI artifacts stick out like crazy. Looks like everything is covered in weird dancing LED lights or something. There's much better ways of upscaling standard def VHS footage without destroying it with AI. Please consider researching these methods and uploading what you get, this footage seems to capture a lot that other videos I've seen couldn't quite get on tape.
