Thanks to you my 7 year loan will actually be 2 years if I keep at it! I have a question any idea how to refinance for a better APR? I went to my local credit unions and they all suggested I utilize my credit more. I have a great credit score but the utilization is at 1%. What are ways to build my credit up as well as utilize it more. I want to ideally do this in 6 months so I can get a better APR for my auto loan. Advice is truly helpful. Sounds like they did not apply the payment correctly. I would get them back on the phone and have them fix there mistake. When applied correctly the entire payment will go towards the principal balance and your total balance will be reduced by the amount of the payment. If they are hard to deal with I would look at refinancing with a better company with a better rate. I should really do a video on refinancing a car loan! Update me if they fix it or not. anyone who has a simple interest loan can simply pay more and it'll automatically pay down principal after accrued interest (news flash this is 90% of loans). No need to call and explicit state principal only like a mortgage that isn't simple interest.

      @DiamondEdwards  Před 3 lety +1

      A mortgage is a simple interest loan. If you make a payment in addition to your regular payment it may or may not be applied directly to the principal (not interest deducted). ALWAYS verify your payments after you make them. This is way I always made a separate payment, it was easy verify because my balance reduced buy the exact payment amount and my next payment was not affected.

    • @DiamondEdwards
      @DiamondEdwards  Před 4 lety +3

      Looking at the big picture it really does make a difference when you make the principal payment as difference between a few days or weeks is dollars and cents. I would make two separate payments and mark one as principal only. Be sure you check with your lender to verify their process and always confirm it was applied correctly.

    • @jayo4343
      @jayo4343 Před 4 lety +2

    • @DiamondEdwards
      @DiamondEdwards  Před 3 lety +5

      Anything you pay over the monthly should be applied to the principal. This do not always happen which is why I like to make separate payments. Each lender is different so you have to verify with your lender on how they handle principal payments.

  • @jusshy
    @jusshy Před 4 lety +1

    • @DiamondEdwards
      @DiamondEdwards  Před 4 lety +1

      Principal payments are to be made in addition to your regular monthly payment. Since 100% of a principal payment goes towards your balance you still have interest due for the month. The banks may be able to reclass your last payment if you call and let them know you didn't mean for it to be a principal payment.

    Hi Diamond, I have a car loan coming up. Spoke with the lender, and told them I want to make the principle payments first, and then car payments later. Also, there’s no penalty for doing so. I would like your input.

    So you telling me its bad because your tryna pay them off as soon as possible. Where do people come up with these rules. That's crazy. So they would be controlling how long you stay with them. I thought I knew money but I don't know money.

      You have to remember they make off you staying in debt not paying things off fast. They don't have our best interest in mind and it is up to us to protect ourselves. That starts with have accurate information. That is my goal with this channel. Thanks for watching.

    Hi, I'd like to pay towards principal as well to pay down my car loan but when I call and ask if I send 2 checks through mail (but specify one "for principal only" on the memo) will it be correctly processed as principal only they are very indirect with their answer. Can anyone suggest how I can pay toward principal? Bmo harris bank has very bad reviews on this

      @DiamondEdwards  Před 3 lety +2

      The process varies by lender so you have to contact them directly. I've had success by hanging up and calling again, not all CSR are created equally. If they make it to hard I would look into refinancing with lender who is not trying to get every penny possible out of you.

    Great video I just have a question about the principal cause I called my Santander bank and ask them if I already made my monthly payment, can I make a payment to my principal only they said no cause I’ll have to pay interest ... don’t really know to much about this so just wanted to know if that true

    • @DiamondEdwards
      @DiamondEdwards  Před 4 lety +3

      When I hear Santander I hear "REFINANCE"! Paying your loan shouldn't be difficult. Ask or check your loan documents to see if you have a prepayment penalty. If you don't have a penalty, then you can make extra principal payments. If you do, then they are correct per your agreement you have to pay all the interest calculated through the life of the loan. In that case principal payments will not make a difference and that is reason enough to refinance with a different bank or credit union. Check out NFCU or DCU they both have good rates. What happens if your principal payment is paid the same day as your reg payment??? Both are auto debited together, but clearly stated in my auto loan online account for the principal only payments and the car note.

      Should be good to go! Just verify after the payment is posted.

I heard from the people if are you making your payments but, the bank is charging only the interest but no in the principal and this is my worries.

    So we pay like regular and than add extra like $100 bucks extra and it drop our principal??

    • @DiamondEdwards
      @DiamondEdwards  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes but be sure the extra is applied to the principal and not your next payment.

      They are screwing with you. I would not let up until they correct it. Look it up on their website. Sometime we have to tell people how to do their job. You are most likely dealing with a subpar lender who makes a game out of screwing people out of as much money as possible.

    • @DiamondEdwards
      @DiamondEdwards  Před 3 lety

      In theory however some lender will limit how many payments you can make in a given month on loans and credit cards. Contact your lender or try it but make sure they are applied correctly.

    I'm already upset that the dealer said my score is 760 , the car was $14,000 but my interest rate is 10.8%.... I shouldn't have agreed to this contract. My note is 331 per month. I made 3 extra payments and then a couple on principal only. So when i log into capital one it shows that my original amount is $17,399 for 73 months and my payment for this month is $179. The email reminder still says $331. Do i pay 331 and then something extra later for principle only... or do i pay $179 and throw the rest on principal only?

    • @DiamondEdwards
      @DiamondEdwards  Před 3 lety +1

      Had to google it but by definition it could be. Just make sure your balance was reduced by your payment amount meaning no interest was taken out. Isn't funny how leaders try to confuse us regular folks. SMH!
