Starting an arc with a full length rod is easy. Just "drag" it. Works well. And that's a lot of unnecessary "prep" work for such a simple weld. I've been doing this for 50 years. The welder is not a problem. The arc is steady once established.
@Douglas Pollock @Arnold Alt etc etc Fully half the comments on this page (and the majority of those in English) seem to be scorn from people who seem to think a teacher's job is to impress students by effortlessly tackling situations which are set up to be difficult. It seems exactly backwards to me. I guess it must be a cultural thing. "Look at that so-called ski instructor demonstrating wedge turns. What a bunny. I can ski backwards while cutting my fingernails. etc etc"
It might be on 155 , because he was doing it on 25mm plate and 4mm weld rod / stick. Nevertheless it was unsafe video.I mean no safety measures showed in the video

An alternative would be to show the patterns "dry" first, just moving the stick without welding. It would be easier to see how big the motions are and how tight together.
The first time you used low amperage and the second time you increased it, just to show us how quickly you learned the trick. I see you're a professional. 👍
I assume professional was meant as a joke? No professional welds without gloves. Also you only need to cut down rods if you can't control the rod. You have to keep stopping and starting. The slag coming off in one piece is just a trick of a pointless weld on top of a flat plate. And the current seemed a little too high in my book, first weld looked a little undercut.
I made a living as a union IW for 30 yrs. Welding is just one of the things you do in that profession. Could prolly teach a chimp the basics of welding- not that hard. But when speed, quality and consistency come into play, as they always do, you learn who the real welders are on the jobsite. Usually among the first to come, last to go.
If your going to teach, start with some better safety practices. Wear gloves and put a guard on the grinder. People who watch this might not understand the full extent of the risks presented.
