Creedence's music has such a joyous, bouncy vibe, but the lyrics usually have a serious message behind them. And John Fogarty has one of the all-time great rock voices.

Yeah, they often contained social commentary, but I’ve heard him discount that in interviews later on. I think maybe he didn’t want part of his audience to turn on him. I Saw It On TV, from his Centerfield album is a master, and there’s no denying what that one’s about.

One of the things that made CCR such a timeless band, is they were as "in tune" with the American ethos of the '70's as any band could be. So many of their songs are identified with the Vietnam War; but they also sang about growing up in America, & the whole "peace & love" movement typified by (dare I say) "hippies", "flower children", what have you. In other words, they were a voice for the people of their generation. Thank you, sir, for reacting to them, & HEARING what they were saying.

Just a bit of backstory about "CCR" is that they are a very "Southern" band with very liberal views. Most people think they originated in the South, but they actually are from Berkeley CA. The style of music can be a tad leading, or misleading if you don't actually listen. "Green River", and "Fortunate Son" I think are the best examples. "Fortunate Son" has been used probably as much as "Born in the U.S.A." by Bruce Springsteen, in a misguided and, frankly, asinine way to promote ideologies that are not what these songs are even about. It is actually quite the opposite. The lyrical content of these bands is clear if you actually listen. Sorry if I rambled.

If I recall their video correctly, it depicted the song literally, which is how I took the song. Young people in a small town heading out to hang out place in a clearing that everyone knows for a good time. “Bring a song and a smile

I first heard this song at a 7th grade school dance when I was 12 years old (that was 52 years ago). Somehow hearing Up Around the Bend that night coincided with my being slammed for the very first time by that speeding freight train called testosterone. What a combination! Been a huge fan of CCR and testosterone ever since. Together they're the fountain of youth!

Glad to hear you got into CCR again...it's been a while...and they're always a toe tappin' band! Keep 'em comin' 👍✌️

A Fogerty song that doesn't get much play that I really like is 110 in the Shade. He sings it with the Fairfield Four. Keep that music alive brother.
