When Nirwana´s Kurt Cobain said that he always tried to make music like the Pixies did, but failed most of the times, it tells everything. When it comes to modern rock music, one cannot overestimate the importance of this fantastic band.

"Gouge Away" deserved top 10 and my favorite "River Euphrates" forever underrated.

God I love the pixies. Not only did they write a massive catalogue of awesome songs but they had a massive influence on bands like Weezer, Radiohead, and Nirvana. Amazing band

They have tons of bad songs, I like the Pixies, but tbh, they have way more "bad songs" than most musicians I like. Some songs are complete shit.
I wouldn't call them bad, but they are way out there - which I find refreshing every so often.

My hero! I'm in awe of the Pixies' melodic side. I love Velouria, as it might be the most perfectly lovely pop song ever written, but it lacks anything interesting from Joey's guitar. Enter: The Happening. Simple, mysterious, hopeful, romantic, and inspiring. Probably my favorite song. "Saying hiiiiiiiiii..."
UPDATE: Turns out it was wrong of me to say there's nothing cool from Joey's guitar on Velouria. I don't know where I thought the (fantastic) main riff of the song was coming from...maybe my brain farted and I thought the theremin played that part. Hmm...well, now that that's settled, maybe I DO like Velouria better...
A good example of how fucked up people's thinking is on the Pixies: On the site Best Ever Albums they have individual song ratings. The Happening is rated an 81. I go to Surfer Rosa, and "I'm Amazed" is rated the same, and Broken Face and Something Against You are even higher. How people can have such a lack of appreciation for the beauty of this song is dumbfouding to me.
(Or is it dumbfounding how overrated a song like "Broken Face" is? At an 83, it's literally rated as high or higher than 25 of the 29 songs on Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde together. Gosh, I guess people just REALLY like Broken Face...)
Jess Manuel broken face is a great song. Also I think surfer rosa is criminally underrated and Doolittle is far from the pixies best album

Monkey Goes To Heaven is far and away my favorite, along with Gigantic and Caribou - for a quick rush of adrenaline, their cover of “Head On” is epic
Well there are many terrrific Pixies songs, but still my favourite remains Monkey gone to heaven. Not because it is the best, but it always reminds me of about eight hollydays on the Dutch island of Terschelling. In this bar dancing Wyb, you could be sure in the late eighties and the 90' s that you could hear that song (and often simular music) almost every evening/ night.
Could there be a better reason, to love one song of a band the most?

Debaser is such a great song with cosmic guitar riff, Black Francis's shouting and uplifting drumming! When I listen to it I can't help singing along to it.
Pixies is the original alternative band, say goodbye to a majority of modern ones without the Pixies. Easily one of the greatest and influential bands ever.

Also, Nimrod's Son, Rock Music, Cactus, Cecilia Ann, Hangwire, Havalina, The Happening, Ana, Crackity Jones, Down to the Well, Vamos, Something Against You, River Euphrates, Debaser, Tame, Wave of Mutilation, Mr Grieves, No 13 Baby,... I could keep going... Just so many great songs to choose from. Definitely one of the best bands from the last 30 or 40 years.

Honestly, the majority of this list feels like you just picked random pixies songs and put them in random ranking. But that's whats so great about them. You could make an argument about nearly any of their songs being top ten worthy.

i have a personal attachment to the pixies. My roommate at the time back in the early 90's said to me, yeah...I've done the lighting for a local band and from what I understand it was the pixies. I didn't know who they were at the time. I lived in a loft space on Thayer St. in Boston. 24 Thayer to be exact. The pixies were a Boston band that I knew of from a friend or two but at the time it was after the fact. i think Peter Chung from Downtown Recorders had a lot to do with the promotion of the pixies going large and the fact that they were touring Europe. That whole 1990's scene was epic and this local band hit me across the head as did Think Tree as well as stomp box. good stuff.

Usually floats around 25-30 for me. Amazing intro, though, and imagining it playing during a love-at-first-sight scene in a good movie gives me chills. Sonically, it's like the mind racing to keep up with what the eyes are seeing.
