  • JFRD responded to a broken gas line at a construction site where crews along with the hazmat team worked hard to try and stop this leak.
    Keep in mind that temperatures outside were in the upper 90's with heat indexes over 100 degrees with full bunker gear in tow while working in a dirt/mud hole.
    Sit back and watch as crews apply one clamp and were unable to expose enough pipe for a second clamp.
    No injuries were reported durning this call.

    i am surprised the fire dept has to fix the leak and not the gas company. Never seen that before. Usually the gas company where i live use brass shovels so they dont create a spark. Your guys did a good job as usual.

      We do not fix the leak...we mitigate and provide safety to our residents and then turn it back over to the gas company to fix.

    Just a quick observation and past experience of these gas line cuts. I am sure you guys are aware, but the excavator can ignite the natural gas vapors by it intaking the fumes and igniting it thru the combustion chamber of the engine. Very risky move having any machinery or vehicles operating near a gas leak like that. I have experienced a air compressor near a hole like that with gas blowing and ignite the entire work site. Be safe guys!!

    This makes me appreciate our natural gas provider being equipped and trained to do this themselves. I’ve got no problem standing by with a charged hoseline….

    I thought that anything deeper than 3 feet had to have cribbing in it before a person may go in the hole.

    This is not smart at all, that is in a very explosive situation and fire gear isn't going to save you when it ignites. They should always dig back and pinch the line

    Why is the FD doing the gas companies job??

      Because contractor dont have mask protect themselves. you would knock out in couple mins if you try this

    • @thejfrd2490
      @thejfrd2490  Před 17 dny

      We aren't, there is a hazard, we are eliminating the hazard to protect our citizens...then the gas company fixes it.

    • @thejfrd2490
      @thejfrd2490  Před 17 dny

      @fireboyny1037 that really is not the reason, we are paid to remove hazards...we have the training and the equipment to do so....contractors are not going to get "knocked out" as you suggest.
