She gave a self-fulfilling prophecy, "Give me children, or else I'll die". When Jacob was dying and giving final instruction he said to bury him in the cave where Leah was buried showing Jacob realized that God's chosen bride for him was Leah, especially since Judah was from her.
Yours is the most accurate comment because people don't often realize that there is divine ordering to even God choosing your spouse. This doesn't apply to every marriage, but Leah was chosen to bear Judah. Jacob might have preferred Rachel, but God ordained Leah for Jacob. Anything other than what God has divinely ordained will have to die.
Now the grace of God is showing in that Jacobs favorite son Joseph was chosen to save the Jews during the famine, so God didn't just let Joe or Benji not have insignificance.
But for me, the key word here is "or". I believe her words were simply that her longing to be a Mother was overbearing, and if she did not give birth, she could die from sorrow, or just simply could not go on in that way. I certainly don't know for sure, but stealing, and lying to your Father, and allowing someone else, (let alone your husband), take the fall, will definitely cause you to reap hardship. And the scriptures made it a point to say the sisters were constantly competing against each other. This has to be distracting for a man of God who needs to be near to God to hear his voice and know what his path should be. 💞

I'll give a vote for idolatry as the cause of her death because she stole those pagan god statues. She was risking her life to keep those and that act didn't please our true God.
True that was the reason. The God of her husband was the true God and once married to him she should have worshiped him alongside her husband, but she chose the gods of her father. Also her stealing from her father put everyone in the camp of Jacob, as her father Laban wanted to use this as an excuse to capture Jacob and return him back with them. Keeping him around to work for Laban for many more years. If it wasn't for God Warning him against any harm to Jacob..

I think Rachael died in childbirth due to a breech birth since the midwife told her not to worry because she was having a son. The baby's head comes first and there was no way of seeing that it was a boy if the head would have been first.

Another possible explanation is that bearing children became Rachel’s obsession or idol. More important to her than God Himself, perhaps. And He will sometimes separate people from anything more important to them than Himself, according to His perfect plan. I also cannot help but notice that Jacob’s only legitimate wife was now Leah, whom he had not loved nor respected nor appreciated during Rachel’s lifetime.
Rachel was cursed by her father for her father chose her sister to get married first to Jacob and then had Jacob repeat another 7 year cycle with Leah which left Rachel feeling insecure for she was getting older. Why would her father hold her marriage from Jacob I think he favored Leah more. It also seemed that Rachel was trying to fit in by having kids at a later age. Her father it seems wanted Leah to have a family with Jacob and had cursed the the divine love between Jacob and Rachel. Her father was an idol worshipper, so his own selfish reasons and greed persuaded Jacob to marry Leah. The two sons of Rachel were blessed by God and became leaders.
In my opinion, I think it is more on Scientific basis, considering the harsh condition of the dessert, the hardship of travels under scorching heat, the very limited method of child birth delivery, and perhaps Rachel's age. If it is due to a curse, then it should have happened soon enough. But we can never easily tell or nor just judge every events. If we're going to bring out the details point by point, this will go to a very long narrative. But the bottomline of these all is that... Care should be taken in rendering a response like this. Think about the fact that Saul from the tribe of Benjamin was the first king over Israel. Likewise, Paul, the apostle, was also from the tribe of Benjamin. Again, it was the tribes of Benjamin and Judah, which were the combined tribes, forming the Jewish nation. Also, precious little, if anything, has been said about Joseph, who was used to save them from famine, and on whom was conferred the ultimate patriarchal blessing from his father, Jacob. These guys were Rachel's sons. Maybe she had developed a heart condition, occasioned by her longing for motherhood, that this second birth took her breath away.
@@georgebrown4419interesting. Women were so expected to produce children back then that it was considered a curse when they didn’t. Imagine the mourning and stress that caused her physically. Only God knows , we as humans can only speculate, we need to just trust God's sovereign will in everything even if we do not understand it , that is why He is God and we are but humans.
I think Rachel died because Benjamin was breech. The midwife said to not despair because she was birthing another son. The only way she would know that is if he was born butt first. Breech births are extremely difficult and, in the absence of medical intervention, can be deadly for the mother. As these were ancient times, there were no adequate medical interventions available. But I have to wonder why the midwife didn't notice it sooner and try to turn the baby around.
Leah deceived Jacob. (Not telling him that she is Leah at the wedding). She also should have died as punishment if Rachel indeed died as punishment for deceiving Jacob. (Not telling him that SHE stole the idols)
Nice work and opinions. I think Rachel loving her father Idols shaped her sad destiny. She could conceive more children like her sister Leah if she get rid of her loving idolatry. Leah had faith and trust on Jacob's God (Her words after every child made clear) Finaly she PRAISED her God (became her God) by Judah. I never heard anything godly sayings from Rachel,
Where in the Bible does it say Leah conspired to marry Jacob? All it says is that her father sent her in to Jacob. Do you think she was given a choice? She knew who Jacob loved. And the implication is Jacob was so drunk he didn't even notice he was with the wrong woman. Quite an insult to both women. Laban was obsessed with Rachel? What is that even supposed to mean?
Stop being emotional. Many drunk men have woken up to something they were ashamed of or duped into. 🤭 As for Leah, her father Laban kept pushing her onto Jakob because the culture practices were that the oldest was to be married before the younger sibling(s).
God makes things very difficult for His Chosen, I am Benjamen, Ricky Eugene Woods, the coming Elijah, blessed by God; Rachel is my mother, and I am proud to be her son, blessed be God Almighty. Rachel, weeping for her children, she refused to be comforted. God is weeping for His children, refused to be comforted.
God is in charge of man's destiny. If we choose to worship Him, we get the rewards of obedience. If we choose not to obey Him, we get that rewards. Rachel chose her path. God had a plan for the line of Jacob. What would happen to poor Joseph and Benjamin if Rachel was there to influence them with idol worshipping? God knows best. He is a God of love❤
My cousin had a horrible death. She was a lifelong Christian. And one day she found a lump on her breast. Even though she was a nurse, she decided to pray it away. It was cancer that spread to her brain. She had the most horrible death.
That's why you don't "try" to pray it "away" and understand heath and common sense medicine. Much of these stories don't make sense. Some is bs. True spirituality isn't this.
@@dannylo5875 Praying alleviates the pain for both sufferers and suffering (everyone involved) - for lack of a better word. For many it gives a sense of relief per se. Although death isn't always pleasant ie. dying "peacefully " in one's sleep is the so-called "goal". Being ready for The Messiah's Second Coming is the ULTIMATE goal for many if not 'some'.
Rachel drew the short stick. God coddled Leah and her whining and con to be the wife of a man who didnt want her. Jacob and his cons, Laben and his cons. Then God finally remembered Rachel (she was never a priorty, small potatoes for later).I've noticed that if your knit with a big heart ( his knitting) and get hurt its your fault for not having boundaries but if you set boundaries your unloving. All manipulations. Wonder what would have happened if Rachel went rogue and sold Leah since she liked to pretend to be someone else. Life at home would probably would have been calmer and a better birthing. Poor Rachel...Everyone in the game won but her.
I always feel so sad that Jacob and Rachel could not simply marry- like young people in love...why did this awful deception happen? Leah also suffered so much. Only I understand that God always brings good out of failure. So Leah had 3 sons with failings and a 4th , Judah, who developed character and was judged worthy to be the ancestor of Yeshua the Saviour! This is one of those mysteries. Joseph the exemplary son was not the chosen ancestor....Judah the reformed son of the rejected wife was .Can it be to fulful; a man of sorrows and rejected by men So He came from the rejected and sorrowful wife?
My Dad named me Rachel … because he loved the name. I believe it was just because God intended her to die during birth , lots of women did during those times . Ironically my brother’s name is Benjamin.
Surely our words are extremely important, we speak words of life or the opposite of what God’spromises are for us. God himself says:- Luke 4:4 But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’
It makes so much more sense now why all Josephs brothers hated him, watching their Mother Leah grow unloved by their father, and then due to his love for Rebecca the first son she gave him was Joseph and his delight showed when he gave him that pretty colored rode eh? hmm, wow Glory Be To God.
It’s interesting that Leah who was not the wife Jacob wanted became the woman God chose through whom Jesus the Messiah came. Was Leah Gods choice for Jacob but Jacob didn’t want what God wanted but what he wanted?
Jakob got it all back since he conned his twin brother Esau with his birthright. Remember Esau the hunter was favoured with his father Isaac when it came to his food craving. Jakob was favoured by his mother Rebekkah - the one who encouraged Jakob to deceive his father and brother.
I'm with the first theory. Jacob was one of God's chosen. His words have more power than others due to that status. And being that close to God when he cast that curse on the person who stole Laban's pagan idols, it stuck big time. That theory rings true to me because I've had similar happen to me. I was not ready for a child that had been given to me, and was casting all sorts of hatred onto it due to the stress I was feeling. I was scared and frightened...enough where God heard that cry and I miscarried. He then placed another child in my life...after I was ready to have a kid with my husband and now it seems he REALLY wants this kid to be raised righteously. He hasn't been officially baptized and he refuses to grow, even if he's a happy little guy. I'm going to have him baptized and see where things go. God is definitely working in my life. I'm just a stubborn piece of clay that sometimes refuses to cooperate!

In order to have everlasting life you absolutely must trust in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation 💕 this means that saving repentance is turning from unbelief to belief.
Also we pray that Gods will be done,do we always know what Gods will is in everything? No, that is where faith comes in, we believe that God always knows what He is doing whether we understand what He is doing or not.
women die in child birth all the time it was very common then, she did wrong but who didn't in this world look at Jackob - it was an event that happend
The curse might be from the household "thing" she took from her father and concealed "it" by sitting on "it" during her menstruation. The "thing" I'm mentioning here was the shrunken head of a first born male with a brass or copper leaf engraved with incantation slid under "his" mouth and fed with blood during certain times in a year, which was prevalence in that time in Syria and still being practiced in India. She took it from Laban to prevent him from knowing the whereabout of fleeing Jacob. The accursed "thing" spoke and still speaks events of future. The only mistake she did was to sit on it and more grievous was during her menstruation, which is akin to blood fed the accursed object. It affected her womb severely. I believe even when birthing Joseph (the first born of Rachel) she must've gone through severe difficulty.
I believe Rachel died because of the words spoken by Jacob to Laban because we've already seen through the Patriarchs' blessings that their words carry weight with YHWH, even if the person is unaware of the situation (Isaac giving Jacob the blessing after being tricked). Also, Jacob we have to remember, was a prophet; we see this in his last words to his sons, where he even prophesies about the coming Messiah.
She was a human being and like many unfortunate women today had birth complications, it suggests a breech given midwife's observation, possibly followed by severe bleeding and haemorrhage. Nothing spiritual. She obviously had some gynaecological issues that caused barren essential. Often such women in turn have birth complications. We live in a fallen world. Death and sickness our lot in life. Had she been born today. She may have had a c section, an oxytocin drip and maybe a blood transfusion. And got better and went on her merry way. But her biggest problem, born 4000 years too early!
"The children shall suffer the sins of the father". This all falls on laban. He was down right nasty and deceitful. To deceive jacob like that was the initial strike against God. Jacob didnt idolize rachel. He worked hard gavd his word and laban used him. Lied to him. Forced him to marry his eldest. Leah is no saint either. She conspired with her father to deceive jacob. More than likely out of jealousy. And labans obsession with rachel was more than likely rooted in some sick fantasy. Leaving laban to watch her suffer giving birth to children that would hate him. His legacy forever ruined.
That’s so sad because Rachel didn’t do anything wrong. Jacob gets to sleep with two wives and concubines. All Rachel did was love Jacob to the extreme. Jacob was set up by Rachel’s father by giving him the older daughter. I mean there is sad and good that came out of this. Rachel suffered a lot.
this is weird... but one of my ancestors was named Benoni... he was named so after his father drowned.... his father's side of the family decided to spread lies, saying that he was born out of wedlock even though his parents were married.... it was just a marriage the dutch church did not recognize at the time.....
I don't think that Rachael was cursed. It was not unusual for women to die in childbirth in ancient times. Perhaps it was a breech birth. There was little medical knowledge back them.
I’m not sure she was a sinner like the rest of us I hope she repented and has been forgiven and in heaven Lot of women died bearing children years ago but she had some great children so I thank God for that and praise him for Jesus or we all be heading to hell brothers and sisters he paid a debt we could never have paid so praise you and thank you Lord Jesus Amen
Noooo on so many levels. 1) Jacob didn't have to wait seven years to marry Rachel.. he married her after his wedding week with Leah was over. Gen 29:28 He had to work another 7. Showing that in God's eyes, Rachel was just as valuable as Leah, but we will see even more so. 2) Jacob recieved his due punishment. Just like he took advantage of his fathers blindness, so his was taken advantage of when he was tricked into marrying Leah. 3) Rachel is not someone we should look up to as a devout follower of God. She lied, she stole, she idolized, she sold time with her husband for some mandrakes showing her eyes were more focused on having kids than loving her husband (i might add, it sounds an aweful lot like how essau sold his birthright for a bowl of soup) and even when she gave birth to Joseph, instead of sincerely being thankful she asked for more children. More was the position of the heart, not sincere thankfulness. 4) Even her last breath shows us her heart. Instead of being grateful, instead of naming her child, the one the Lord promised, or my last prayer came true, instead of all of these things, she named him, son of my pain. 🙄 5) we see that it wasnt her sons that were in the line of Christ....and there's a reason for that. Her heart, her love for God was dark. 6) It was Leah's son who is in the lineage of Christ, who was burried with the patriarchs, not Rachel. God sees the heart and Leah was much more beautiful inside than Rachel ever was outside.
Poor women, she suffered a lot. Meaniness and family jealousies especially from her own sister may have had something to do with her death. I feel for any women that is looked down at, simply for the fact that they can not bare a child. I have a son and I feel blessed, just like Rachel I gave birth later in life for personal reasons, but I was often asked when are you going to have a second kid. Families and societies expect so much from women and then blame them if they don't meet their expectations, not realizing they are contributing to their misery. Regarding Rachel's death, I don't think it is the curse of the words spoken in despair, I don't think it is God's punishment either, God is GOOD. He gave her two beautiful boys. If God would curse and punish people for every word spoken in haste, we will all be dead. This all happened because Jacob married Leah, which in my honest opinion he chose to do. I believe he knew very well what he was doing. I do not believe for a second that he discovered he married Leah afterwards, this sounds childish and ridiculous. It is crazy how those who told these stories written in the Bible often justify men and put the blame on women. I think it is the very people around Rachel, including Jacob that contributed to her death. Jacob, who did not do enough to shield Rachel from Leah's and her kids meaniness, protect her through their marriage and take care of her in the crucial moment of childbirth. It is no coincidence and it is the same meaniness which many years later resulted on Joseph being sold by their own brothers and all the suffering that he went through. And Jacob once more wasn't there to protect them, neither Rachel, neither Joseph. Jacob suffered his own mistakes later in his life in older age. But God still forgave them all and used Rachel's and Joseph's misfortune for everybody's good. So please stop blaming the Lord for the things we do wrong ourselves as humans.
Rachel had Jacob's favoritism and a Maid to help care for her. Lea, the neglected wife with a passel of kids, I doubt, created much real discomfort other than jealousy. It was Rachel who was jealous. I don't like her at all. The whys of Leas' fertility are in the Bible itself. It was her one comfort; Rachel seemed to get everything else.
Rachel took the idols from Laben because she saw they were a transgression against God. I don't believe God allowed a curse over her due to her wanting her father not to praise the idols. Rachel had hidden the idols in her camel sack and she sat upon them. Idols such as those carried demons, it was they who cursed her, they cursed her all around her womb area and where babies become born. For God's own reasoning, He allowed it. Rachel dying in great pain while giving birth on her way to Bethlehem was a significant message towards the birth(place) of Christ. Jacob buried the idols because this is simply the done thing to do with cursed objects.
Dear Lord, fill my heart with gratitude for the blessings you've bestowed upon me. Help me to recognize and appreciate the beauty and abundance in my life.
Myself as well. Thank you Lord for everything from the air I breathe to the smallest blessing you gift me.

Wow! I am so well acquainted with this story yet never thought of these possibilities. Interesting!
What an interesting Bible story about.rachel.
Jacob was insulted pronounced unknowingly the decree of death over his beloved Rachel.
Only God knows , we as humans can only speculate, we need to just trust God's sovereign will in everything even if we do not understand it , that is why He is God and we are but humans.
Crafty and deceptive Jacob met his match in Laban.
Thank you very much i really liked the bible story very much
I think Rachel died because Benjamin was breech.
Great podcasts. God bless your ministry.
Leah had faith and trust on Jacob's God (Her words after every child made clear)
Finaly she PRAISED her God (became her God) by Judah.
I never heard anything godly sayings from Rachel,
True I always write GOD like this much respect ❤
It was definitely part of a divine plan!! Amen ❤
As for Leah, her father Laban kept pushing her onto Jakob because the culture practices were that the oldest was to be married before the younger sibling(s).
God bless.. newly subs here
We all die since Adam, and God knows when only.
Hebrews 9: 27
She dead because of the divine intervention but thanks alot, l always learn alot. May God bless you so much
God makes things very difficult for His Chosen, I am Benjamen, Ricky Eugene Woods, the coming Elijah, blessed by God; Rachel is my mother, and I am proud to be her son, blessed be God Almighty. Rachel, weeping for her children, she refused to be comforted. God is weeping for His children, refused to be comforted.
Sorry what?
Sorry to hear this. Cancer is the most ugliest disease one can get.
God has a plan for everyone god only know the purpose why she died giving birth to Benjamin god bless her soul❤
Such a sad story but I gather it may have God's will. I enjoy this story!! Rachel had a wonderful husband. Rachel went thru alot.
🙄😴
I always feel so sad that Jacob and Rachel could not simply marry- like young people in love...why did this awful deception happen?
Leah also suffered so much.
Only I understand that God always brings good out of failure.
So Leah had 3 sons with failings and a 4th , Judah, who developed character and was judged worthy to be the ancestor of Yeshua the Saviour!
This is one of those mysteries.
Joseph the exemplary son was not the chosen ancestor....Judah the reformed son of the rejected wife was .Can it be to fulful; a man of sorrows and rejected by men
So He came from the rejected and sorrowful wife?
Think about it.
Jakob deceived his twin brother Esau over his birthright.
Laban duped Jakob into seven years [initially] of labour for Rahel. 😉
Yes I do believe that her words possibly brought on her death. Our words are important.
Words have power.
Amen 🙏🏼🙌😇
My Dad named me Rachel … because he loved the name. I believe it was just because God intended her to die during birth , lots of women did during those times . Ironically my brother’s name is Benjamin.
Surely our words are extremely important, we speak words of life or the opposite of what God’spromises are for us. God himself says:- Luke 4:4
But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’
What happened to Joepsh was basically Jacobs's doing, even though he was prob unaware...He dint seem to be able to let the favoritism go,
@lilacicecream It's true, both of them favored one son, but failed to love them equally,
Rachel is Queen of DIAMONDS REST IN POWER Blessings and HUGS! 👑💜
she lied about stealing her fathers idols
It’s interesting that Leah who was not the wife Jacob wanted became the woman God chose through whom Jesus the Messiah came. Was Leah Gods choice for Jacob but Jacob didn’t want what God wanted but what he wanted?
Jakob got it all back since he conned his twin brother Esau with his birthright.
Remember Esau the hunter was favoured with his father Isaac when it came to his food craving.
Jakob was favoured by his mother Rebekkah - the one who encouraged Jakob to deceive his father and brother.
Part of GOD plan 🙏
Hey Bro, you have a fantastic historical channel and your content is in high public demand. But do you know why your videos aren't getting enough views? It's because you're unknowingly ignoring the SEO (search engine optimization) aspect of your channel and videos. This significantly impacts your reach and views. In order to have everlasting life you absolutely must trust in the person and finished work of Christ alone for salvation 💕 this means that saving repentance is turning from unbelief to belief.
Divinity is behind this story!!❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊
Must know the midrash of this story from a jewish perspective.
Loved the picture narrative
Rachel is blessed, she hid the idols, it was a second best thing to do than destroy them completely.
Also we pray that Gods will be done,do we always know what Gods will is in everything? No, that is where faith comes in, we believe that God always knows what He is doing whether we understand what He is doing or not.
It was her fate, she lived and die tragically
The curse that Jacob put on who it was that stole the household gods of Laban his father-in-law, fell upon his wife Rachel...
Chassidic & Orthodox Jews have a similar devotion for Rachel the Matriarch, that we Catholic & Orthodox Christians have for the Blessed Virgin Mary.
A divine plan particularly hinged on Joseph and the divine role he plays.
women die in child birth all the time it was very common then, she did wrong but who didn't in this world look at Jackob - it was an event that happend
What about Issachar and Zebulun?
I feel like Rachel also got impatient and did other things outside of waiting on God, cu, we humams are impatient and forward at times
I think it is all these
I believe Rachel died because of the words spoken by Jacob to Laban because we've already seen through the Patriarchs' blessings that their words carry weight with YHWH, even if the person is unaware of the situation (Isaac giving Jacob the blessing after being tricked).
You know Rachel was not a young woman, but she was already an old woman.
All played apart
My name is also Rachel
It was all of it
All God's plan .
Leah pleased God
Deceptions
Our days are numbered Life and Death is in God's hands.
Hebrews 9:27
She was Jacob s favorite than her sister and this could be problematic
this is weird... but one of my ancestors was named Benoni... he was named so after his father drowned.... his father's side of the family decided to spread lies, saying that he was born out of wedlock even though his parents were married.... it was just a marriage the dutch church did not recognize at the time.....
Whatever the reason for her death God is Good.
I opt to believe that she died because of the words she prophesied with her own tongue on her life
It's a Divine Plan Brother
Did Jacob marry Rachel 7 years after marrying Leah or did he marry her at the end of the first 7 years?
He married her not long after he married Leah but then worked a second term of seven years for her
@@alisonwilson632 Thanks this is also my understanding of Genesis 29:27.
1 week later
Jacob was tricked into marrying Rachel as Leah became his first wife Unfortunately Jacob never loved Leah
I don't think that Rachael was cursed. It was not unusual for women to die in childbirth in ancient times. Perhaps it was a breech birth. There was little medical knowledge back them.
I think the b Bible told the story of what happened and that explains why she died.
I’m not sure she was a sinner like the rest of us I hope she repented and has been forgiven and in heaven
Lot of women died bearing children years ago but she had some great children so I thank God for that and praise him for Jesus or we all be heading to hell brothers and sisters he paid a debt we could never have paid so praise you and thank you Lord Jesus Amen
5) we see that it wasnt her sons that were in the line of Christ....and there's a reason for that.
Rachel died because of giving birth at an older age.
Rachel was not strong enough because of her age.
Laban cursed!
I think it all was God's plan
Jacob did not wait another 7 years to marry Rachel. The agreement was to marry Rachel in one week and then work another 7 years. Read the Bible.
If idolizing was done by the father so how is it that Leah would be God's chosen when in fact both Rachel and Leah are sisters from the same family?
That is my view also...why did he allow the idols at all?
But Leah did not stole the idols, it was Rachel
