This repair was a success! Tested it this morning. Poked at it and pushed it a little bit and it held up. I didn’t use the peen hammer on it. But i think it will be fine.

Thanks for the video. I'm trying to restore my Father's Scandallis and saw how to get access to the bass buttons !Now can you tell me where you got the shrink wrap to hold the buttons in? I have several that had the seal deteriorate and the buttons fall out.

Hi yeah it’s just shrink wrap from the electronic store. Is there still Radio Shack?
Thing is that you will have to do all of them.
      :)

Thanks! Very interesting. I am new to this this world.
I have a question for all of you. I've bought a Pigini Kirkil and see this: when free-bass configuration there are 3 buttons that fall in the holes for gravity. Is this a failure to repair or is a normal thing in this model?
I have looked into the L. H. case and there is no spring neither pin to keep this 3 buttons up.
When Stradella bass configuration the 3 buttons emerge. But various buttons fall a little when depressed only one. Is this a failure too? THANKS

Without pressing a button 3 go inside? Does it work normally otherwise? Maybe open it up and have a look. Make sure that the pins are on the correct side of the pusher thing on the button rod. Have a look. It might have to go to the shop in the end. Which is too bad because converter instruments are a little bit more complicated than normal stradella or free bass instruments. That could mean it takes more time.

I've looked inside and there isn't pins to push at free bass configuration. When stradella is engaged the 3 buttons go up normally. It's a weird thing.

I have an accordion with that same bass action. I have done the shrink wrap on all the ends. I have some pallets that are not closing tight enough. What is the correct way to adjust the pallets that are not closing tight enough? Thanks

It could be that you need to replace the pads. If this is the case then it’s also probably needs to be done on the piano side as well. We don’t usually adjust the angles of the pads on the bass side. It’s mostly when everything is put together that it becomes sealed. The easiest way would be to remove the pallet including the wood frame. Remove the old glue or wax from the wood and the metal parts so it can go on again without any resistance. Then put some glue into the groove in the wood pallet and put it back in position and drop the metal arm into the slot. Now don’t touch it for a day or so.
If you do replace the pads then you would have to adjust the mechanics but since we used the same pad we shouldn’t have to adjust it.

@@brendantheprettygood thanks for the reply. I can press down slightly on the pad on the bass side and then the leaking stops, so all I need is just a bit more pressure. The Scandalli I have has two brass tabs that lock the bass in and then you unscrew 4 small screws to remove the entire bass, but it looks like when you do that, all the bass buttons are going to be flopping around and that will be like herding cats….

@@billhatcher9303 ah so it’s not the same system as in this one? There is a way to check if the pad is lying flat. Put under the pad a cigarette rolling paper and then release the pad so it squishes the paper between the pad and the soundboard. Then pull out the paper and feel for resistance. Do this on the top and bottom of the pad. To check it is sitting properly.

@@billhatcher9303 oh on the one I have there is a small button that locks the bass mechanics when they are taken out.
