    He turns the knobs of the compressor and the sound actually changes 🤯🤯🤯

      Haha I know! So many are so subtle there’s almost no telling that there was any change at all - not the case here! 🙌

    I own this pedal, and have clearly not gotten deep enough into it, I was just using it to compress/limit synths on the way into my sound card when recording. Now I want to experiment with sending my Drumbrute through it :)

      Hayoo that's great! I'm all about pushing these tools to their boundaries (even completely misusing them sometimes) just to see where you can take them. I definitely like the dirt you can get with this one! Let us know what you think once you give it a shot. 🙌

    I have this pedal as well, but when I run a whole mix trough it, and use it as a master compressor, it laks some control.
    For this reason I switched to the golden master multi band compressor.
    I prefer the latter, but it might be a personal thing

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před 8 měsíci +2

      Totally fair! I want to give that one a go too - it looks great! Also hoping to check out the UA Max too.

    Hey there. Thank you so much for the trully wonderful video!
    Am torn between pedals at the moment. UAD max preamp, This one here and then now i read "golden master" so naturally i am curious.
    I want one as a subtle master coloring device that can go over the top but also be able to add subtle processing.
    In your opinion which one has convinced you the most?
    Also i really miss a SC filter on most compressor pedals cause they sometimes grab the low end too much for my taste
    Ps: just watching the "Bypass" issue. Shouldnt it be possible to only have drive if you set a very slow attack and release on the comp? It should do subtle to no compression then?

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před 3 měsíci

      True! You could basically cripple the compressor so it doesn’t do much of anything… I haven’t tried the UAD Max, been on my list but haven’t been able to get my hands on one yet!

  • @Katmat87
    @Katmat87 Před měsícem +1

    Nice demo, thanks! You can reduce the 'pop' on transients by lowering the volume going into the pedal. A common issue using line level on guitar pedal compressors.

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před měsícem

      Oh yeah makes sense with a much more aggressive input - not sure how to handle that attack. Good tip!

    Just retired my Boum, about to return the UA Max and Golden Master...just cannot seem to find a stereo comp yet that does what I want...have been spoilt with the Diamond Comp for my mono stuff, damn thing is just delicious and does what my ear wants...so thanks for this demo...very weird to be coming down from the Booum to this but seems to have a personality. Can tell your thoughts pretty well from your delivery. ;)

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Well you can't say you didn't try! I hear you about coming down from "nicer" stuff, but in the end it's all about your setup and the sound you're trying to achieve, so nicer isn't always better! I guess you can tell I'm a big fan of the boosted dirt this has, very pleased with the Platform for the money. I think the BOUM is perfect if you want distortion and a "one knob" compressor, with MIDI. The Golden Master I actually just picked up a few days ago and have just scratched the surface on. So far I think it sounds very "nice", airy, and is probably best at well, mastering! Definitely let me know what you think once you give this one a shot! Appreciate the comment. =)

    @Charlieboy2680 Před 6 měsíci

    Are you running both the pedal and model cycles into the TE mixers headphone jack?

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před 6 měsíci

      No the Model:Cycles is going into the Platform and then the platform is going out stereo into the input on the TX-6 mixer. The output I’m recording from is the main out on the front of the mixer, into my camera.

    Poor man's analog heat

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před 8 měsíci +1

      You're not wrong! I think for the price you can get these it's a great option if you need some dirt and some groove/pumping all while keeping levels in check - not too shabby.

    • @Judasz696
      @Judasz696 Před 8 měsíci +1

      This compresor is better then compressor on heat...poor ppl will never understand this ;)

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před 8 měsíci +7

      Agreed, mainly because the Heat doesn’t have a true compressor, you can only kind of fake it with the envelope follower (which is still cool) but this does give you some of the toasty sounds you could get with heat. This will compress better and that will have more options for flavors of distortion - but def for the price this thing is a solid buy.

    hello there, what s the difference between the limiter and knee?
    thanks for the video man

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před měsícem +1

      No problem! Knee is basically the “attack” of the compression - soft knee is like a longer slope to compressed and usually sounds smoother!

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před měsícem +1

      Oh and limiter is just the peak, think of it as setting a “max”

  • @hackett999
    @hackett999 Před 8 měsíci +1

    How do you find this compares to the OTO Boum? Great video as always

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před 8 měsíci +4

      Thank you! The BOUM is better in almost all respects, but it also costs like 4x as much so it should be! I think for the value, this is def a solid solution to get into compression, then maybe a later upgrade to a more “pro” option would make sense - then you could always just keep this around too for sub-mix compression or the overdrive character. Can’t lose 👍

      @hackett999 Před 8 měsíci +2

    • @telantas
      @telantas Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@Duskmos this seems very relevant advice for me. I mix while I record (an artistic choice; as I live off something else, I can do whatever I want!) but always find that I need to post-process on a computer to apply some compression because my recordings are too quiet. So I want a compressor to sit between my mixer and my recorder so I can leave the computer out of the equation and stay true to my aim of hearing the final result as I play it, which is how I enjoy making music the most. So I am lookig at a RNC 1773 and the EHX Platform (the two I can afford and that will fit in my timy window studio right now, though in the future I might have space for some more rack-mounted gear). The RNC seems like a better general-purpose compressor, and perhaps better quality. However I find the EHX much more inspiring. Your advice suggests I should get the EHX knowing that once I have developed a feeling for compression and "outgrown it" (perhaps by getting a 19-inch compressor for my.live mastering purposes) I can still find other uses for it in the mix, e.g. as a dedicated unit for.my drum machine. Would you agree?

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před 8 měsíci +2

      @@telantas I'd agree! I also plan to pick up a RNC to test, as well as the Max from Universal Audio, but yes I think this EHX unit sounds great, adds some flavor, and is a great value - so you can't go wrong. =)

    Is this pedal an analog or digital device? …if digital: what sample rate/bit depth does it uses for processing?

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před měsícem

      EHX hasn't published that info anywhere so I think your best bet is to reach out to them directly and see if they'll share that info. Either way, it sure sounds good and to me that's the most important thing. =)

    • @Duskmos
      @Duskmos  Před měsícem

      That being said I'm sure it's digital at this price point, as far as sample rate/bit-depth, they'd have to tell you.

    • @ColectivoLaberintos
      @ColectivoLaberintos Před měsícem

      @@Duskmos EHX already replied. They said that Platform is a digital device. The sample rate is 32kHz @ 24-bit depth.
