    Magic the Gathering will always have a place in my heart, but I also love exploring new TCGs. I started playing games in college after years of failing at sports and have been addicted ever since.
    Pokemon started the craze and addiction - moving me away from baseball cards and into the world of constant organization.

    Crazy how the collector boxes have evolved over the years. There's a night and day difference between what we have today and the Ravnica Allegiance collector boosters they started with as a test product in the Midwest in early 2019.

    Your first statement about collecting is the key to the whole thing. Collecting is buying/accumulating stuff for the sheer joy of the items. Who cares the value per se, it’s the item you like not so much the value. Investing is acquiring items strictly for the idea of increasing monetary value over time in the things you buy/invest in. If you do it for the collecting reason who cares about trend in price. Try not to use the words interchangeably in your discussions they are not synonymous, two totally different ways of thinking.

    I have never changed my stance on sealed MtG. I have always bought sealed boxes for draft. Sure I've lost value by not selling at the right time, but I have opened very few set boxes and collector boxes and most of my collection is made up of draft booster boxes to run drafts.

    IMO the only way to go is playables. Doesn't matter which area. Just playables. Ancient tomb for instance will always remain some value, hop in when it's low (20$) and sell when it's high (55$). Reprint...repeat;)

    I definitely agree when it comes to collecting. Its not about the money anymore, rather, what you enjoy and whats your favorite things to buy. Honestly pretty damn happy about it cuz I have always wanted to buy an OG Innistrad box. They have nearly halved in value, so for me its a win. Same deal as I built an all foil Innistrad cube for like a quarter of what it would have costed 2 or 3 years ago.

    Part of the reason old boxes aren't fun to open is because of easy foil + mythic odds, Secret Lair and reprint subsets in main sets. They aggressively stripped out the value of those boxes making opening them seem like you set your money on fire.
    Collect what puts a smile on your face instead of playing "sealed box warehouse live."

      very good conversation! the old boxes are just not holding up compared to the new ones and if you compare the prices with new stuff, it seems they don’t appreciate well. it’s all in the perspective. i think the old boxes will catch up, though.

  • @Monkey_D._Elliott

    My take: The low EV of sealed product has made it a bad buy for anyone but players/investers with cash to burn. At which point, you can buy $400 dollars worth of stuff or a box of Innistrad and for most that choice is easy.
    So other than the endorphin rush of gambling on box breaks, there's really little to no reason to overpay on sealed product, new or old.
    Again, personally, I could buy a Kaladesh box for 300, or I could build a Kaladesh cube for half that. The tearing of foil isn't worth $150 for me.
    Cheers, thanks for the video.

    Honestly I think because of whatnot opening up so many boxes and the increase of opened sealed items it will be harder to come by later on when people want to open these products

    If you need a suggestion for your old stock that doesn’t move perhaps consider using a little from each one and do chaos drafts especially if the stuff is cheaper than more modern sets.

    Innestrad remastered in Jan 2025. Reserved list I’m not messing with because they are staying flat for the foreseeable future. And with wotc going to support cedh tournaments, I’m not confident those reserve list cards are as safe as we thought.

    Though my two sons and I can afford to buy the new Magic products, the prices are getting out of hand. I dread about what the prices will be in 2025. We do love to crack boxes but most of the time Wizards does not give you much value out of a Collectors box. Thank you for the video.

    As a hobby collecting is great. The problem lies with the scammers who sell this hobby as an 'investment' to unsuspecting fans.
    You're very transparent and reasonable about it. If you get comments that are anti-collecting, it's probably not directed at you.

    When speaking about how Magic have dergraded in value byoverprinting cards. How can one even begin to consider collecting following cardgames like Sorcery, Flesh and Blood, and so on?
    Magic is the first one, and the gold-standard. But when it starts to fall and fail, will it put a bad vide on other card games as well?

  • @michaelc6817
    @michaelc6817 Před 2 měsíci

    Ok, you covered it, but I have to say it anyway. Nothing would be more boring to open relative to the bling that you can open today than a box of MTG Alpha. However, if you opened a box of MTG Alpha, it would likely get more views than any video you posted to date. All the older boxes will have their day as time passes and rarity increases. There is always an intrigue with the Originals. Draft or Sealed is the way!

  • @mangoman9290
    @mangoman9290 Před 2 měsíci

    Reprints cant replicate the draft experience of a set. You can build a cube but thats your version of the draft experience not the designers version. The cards might have low value but the authentic draft or sealed experience cannot be replicated. Cracking packs is a waste on products that already have alot of unboxing youtube videos, save them for gameplay.
