Twas over 30 years ago when we were younger & came to see that God had a work for us to do on
the Island of Adak in the Aleutian Chain of Alaska. It was kind of mindboggling to think that God
would allow us to end up on an island so secluded & where trees/much plant life-vegetation were not abundantly in existence. The ground was tundra where not much could be planted in/grown. In
the bushes & parts where the men hunted caribou, the tundra was like quicksand. Some experi-
enced walking in areas where you'd get stuck & unable to get out w/out the assistance of some- one w/a rope to pull you out. How it's said, "& the beat goes on", that's kind of how it truly was.🙄
We're thankful to God that there was a church building on the island called Bering Hill Chapel. Twas located kind of up the mountain/Bering Hill closed to where the airplanes flew backwards & forth flying over it. We remember when we'd be heading up the hill to the church having to be watching planes flying over us & right across the road we were driving on. There weren't road signs up there but prior to ever traveling the route, through orientation we were informed to be prepared to stop & let the planes fly in front of us prior to proceeding in travel. "And the beat goes on..." you got it! 😁
There was so much happening on the island that could almost cause one to lose focus, but we
found strength in meeting up at the church to encourage one another. The saddest thing was that the island had a high suicide rate. Military, Civil servicemen & dependents took their lives. So, this
made it that much harder for us. When we'd see each other, we'd embrace thanking God that we made it through another day. We were determined to seek God & allow him to have His way w/us.
Some of us realized for the first time in life what it really meant to be Christian Family. Being so
many miles away from our immediate-birth families, some going through hard trials & needing
someone anyone to be there for us gave us a wake-up call & made us know that we had to survive.
Because of this, many unsaved military servicemen, their dependents & civil service accepted &
believed on the Lord Jesus for salvation. God brought us to understand that this was our mission.
The scripture "Philippians 4:13- “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” brought
true & new meaning to our lives. We became bold in our faith & recited it often to one another.
Most of the time the reception for recording church services, listening to radio or whatever, was
very staticky & loud. This was mostly because of the planes flying over. We didn't let it stop us &
we went & handled business as usual. We came to praise the Lord & that we were going to do no
matter if the noise was present. We invite you to tune in patiently, see & get a feel of how things
were for us while trying to conduct church service on the island of Adak. How we too learned that
"Patience is a Virtue"!
We all looked forward to coming together to sing our victory songs & sharing how our days/weeks
were going. Just to feel the love of the family, this special time of praise made us feel right at home.
In all that we've shared, we hope that we've touched your hearts & comforted/encouraged you in
some way that may give you hope especially if you're enduring similar things like what we had...
