Tony, Johanna, and Joe from Movie Dumpster go on a quest to revisit The Fellowship of the Ring 20 years after it hit theaters. In this movie review/podcast of the first live action Lord of the rings film they will discuss all the things they think make the movie great. Like the top notch special effects, how it expertly adapts the source material, and the amazing set design.
The future of civilization rests in the fate of the One Ring, which has been lost for centuries. Powerful forces are unrelenting in their search for it. But fate has placed it in the hands of a young Hobbit named Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), who inherits the Ring and steps into legend. A daunting task lies ahead for Frodo when he becomes the Ringbearer - to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom where it was forged.

That Adam & Eve promo looked like a late night cable ad
I went to see this opening day for the first show, high on an 8th of shrooms. I get there and they tell me the first showing has been delayed for an hour, so I had to walk around the mall high as balls trying not to freak out. Finally get into the movie, two nerds in front of me in elven cloaks with a reference book and proceeded to sit there with my jaw open the and hardly a blink the whole time. It was one of the greatest moments of my life.
The council of Tony, Johanna, & Joe discuss "Fellowship" while elf Crystal, wizard Trisha, Hobbit Justin, and ranger Kieran return the "Lord of the Rings" tapes to the TWO TOWERS VIDEO.
It was snowing when i went to this with friends. We nearly slid off a bridge and died, but the car stopped right at the edge. Awesome movie. Epic!

I'm glad I didn't know about Tolkien's additional works beyond The Hobbit before I saw Fellowship. Since I was totally naive, the movies blew me away and the excitement of watching them made me feel like a kid again.
Initially I went with a buddy who had to be at work by a certain time, and the running time meant we had to leave when Boromir goes over the falls. As soon as I dropped him off at work I went right back to the theater as a fully invested fan thinking "let's destroy this ring!". So I watch the whole movie again, Boromir goes over the falls, and the movie ends like two minutes later. Had to be explained to me that it was going to be a trilogy and I had to wait years for the conclusion.
LOVED THIS!!!! The review is almost long as the Theatrical, not complaining. I'm a fellow Patron and Tony you rock man. Joe is hilarious, I like both Hack the Movies along with Movie Dumpster. Johanna is just a treat, plus I like seeing Jessica's editor notes. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is awesome. I usually watch them around this time since they all released around Christmas....but shit 20 years.

Lmao, Sam says “I’ll have you, Long Shanks!” I had no idea what it meant until I read the book. When they were describing Aragorn for the first time, it was mentioned how he had such long shanks.
The way Joe laughed after he said that N-word misdirect is what lets you know he is a man who is proud of his actions. And he should be. Because that was chef's kiss.
As something of a Dungeons & Dragons bastard, I love the Lord of the Rings. Love the movies. I loved the old cartoons too.

My two favorite of the franchise are The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers.
The second and third films have such great action sequences in them.
But Fellowship has much better pacing and tells its story better. Imo.

Watching this in the cinema, in the UK, when Sean Bean picks up the sword and says it's still Sharpe the whole cinema cheered, due to Sean playing Sharpe in the TV show.
Although it wasn't a continuous story, The Dollars Trilogy from Sergio Leone is amazing.
Gandalfs' mind grows slow. No doubt as a result of his fondness for the halflings leaf.

Iconic first start to one of the greatest trilogies ever. So much depth, character development, world building and brilliant competent filmmaking that I was happy to see in 2013 and watching the extended version of 2016, it's an amazing masterpiece cinematic masterclass with great directing, writing, cinematography, great use of all effects, editing and score along with the fantastic performances from everyone. So much love in the trilogy they had.
I went to hobbiton during covid time (I live in New Zealand and we've been lucky with covid stuff) but anyway it was great to go there because it wasn't busy at all.

Also, note to Joe: Tom and Goldberry can't be Beren and Luthien since Luthien (an elf) chose to become mortal and die for Beren (a man). So both have been dead for a long time.

The Godzilla roar is a leather glove, coated in resin and dragged down the loosened strings of an orchestral double bass. Also an UNRELATED neat fact, the cool buzzing sound from Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a tuning fork being dragged down a piano string. If you think about it, that's kind of the same thing as the Godzilla sound but more high-pitch.
Excited to see this one tony. Good guest choices as well. Now we play the waiting game.

Tony is right. Galadriel is an elf, not a Maia. She’s not an ordinary elf though. She was one of the elves to live in the presence of the two trees of Valinor and was a pupil of the Maiar. Hence why she is so powerful.
Also a Noldor which makes her a badass by default

I do agree that Resident Evil was fine AND fun! Make the shirt and I'll buy it. It can be an Umbrella logo where each colored triangle is another word from the quote. "THE RESIDENT EVIL REBOOT IS FINE AND FUN" in an umbrella shape, like a red "THE," then a white "RESIDENT," and so on, Hack the movies logo in the bottom right corner. I'd buy it!

I’m guessing the ring makes mortals invisible either because it semi-transports them to a different realm so in a sense they’re half there and half in middle earth, option B being for pure plot convenience. Also the ring can only be destroyed in mount doom, im pretty sure it’s stated at the beginning of FOTR. Either way amazing review guys, I had so much fun watching this!
Buy the 4k transfers, Jackson oversaw the process himself. I sure don't miss the green tint from the blu ray versions but that's my hot take lol
I agree, based on all the research I've done, the 4K transfers look more natural than the Blu-Rays.

So when Boromir cut himself on that sword on the shrine - the shards of the sword that defeated Sauron… He actually got Tetanus. Tetanus broke up the fellowship
I've never watched any of the lotr movies, played shadows and some of the older ps2 lotr games. I might have to get the bluray box set and sit down and watch them one weekend

The Dianoga in the trash compacter was a female Dianoga named Omi who was Force-sensitive. I found out the species has a complex language and a belief in reincarnation. Why, then, is the Jedi of their species dragging people into garbage water in a trash compacter, and how has it not been squished yet? I read that it's lived there quite some time.
I hope you guys review the other 2 lord of the rings movies and the hobbit trilogy as well. Or just for laughs the animated films.

I think there is a blink and you miss it scene that the second film that states Saruman as cross-bred a new breed of troll that can withstand sunlight just before we start to see them appear in armor and pulling chains/war gear and I know the game is not canon but in the Shadow of War they call them Olog Hai meaning War Troll
