Matt was recommended by Ben Bram (PTX arranger since the Sing Off) to try out. It was a blind audition, as Matt did not know what group he was trying out for 😂 He had suspicions tho. He made it through the frst couple rounds and was invited to go to LA and sing for the group in person, and then to actually sing with them. He was offered to be the trial replacement for tour and then eventually became the permanent 5th member.
Scott recently got married to his long time partner Mark over the summer. Matt and Kevin are also married. Kirstin is engaged, her wedding is fast approaching. She has a daughter with her fiancee Ben ( who used to be the PTX tour videographer). Mitch is "officially" single, he leads a very private life so if he is dating a guy we wont find out until they have been together awhile lol 😂

Mitch has a large vocal range, over 6 octaves, so he can sing very high and also low. I recommend Amazing Grace official video where you can hear his strong voice in low registers.

This is such perfection! I always smile when Scott sings, “ Wanna change the world, there’s nothing to it…” because I think of how PTX has changed the music world with their mind-blowing talents and creativity. I recommend Please Santa Please; it’s a Kirsten-led Christmas feel good bop! Also, not Christmas, but I recommend the audio-only cover of Take On Me where Mitch pretty much spans his whole range and 🤯 us once again. ❤💚

Matt Sallee (emphasis on the last sylable) has been the bass for Pentatonix since their Christmas tour in 2017, so 6 years. He's not really "new" anymore, been there as long as Avi was. Ben Bram (Pentatonix's arranger whose been with them since The Sing Off) knew him and recommended that he audition, but they had a full audition process run by an outside organization. Matt talks about the process in an interview that Peter Barber did with him on his podcast: czcams.com/video/FKMNgBSYS_E/video.html. And yes, Scott married his long-time partner Mark this past July. Matt is married. Kevin is married and has a daughter. Kirstie has a daughter and is engaged, getting married sometime next year. Mitch is still single as far as we know, but he keeps a pretty low profile on social media.

As a Scott fan, you might want to listen to some of his originals. He released a couple this year - great love songs and done in typical energetic Scott style. There are videos for both Mars and Parallel; great songs. Scott got married to his partner Mark in July and there are videos of the wedding all over the place as well as the original song Scott sang to Mark. Kirstin is engaged and has a baby (1 yr now) with Ben, her fiance and long time videographer for PTX. Matt ("new" bass) and Kevin are both married, Kevin has a 2 yr old daughter. Matt's wife just passed the bar!

This is one of their songs where they don't have percussion, so Kevin can sing throughout. That allows them to make the harmonies even more complicated than usual.
As you go through the massive PTX catalog of videos you will see so many variations of looks from Mitch and Kirstie, to the point you wonder if that’s them (it always is). Matt isn’t really new anymore since he’s been a member since 2017 ☺️. Love your reactions!

That’s Christmas to Me has become a Christmas standard at my house…even tho they’re singing of their own Christmas experiences, it is nostalgic in a very personal and beautiful way❤❤❤

Everyone's answered from Matt's perspective, but I didn't see anyone completely cover the process. PTX had a recruiting company post a blind call for audition tapes for an unnamed a capella group looking for a bass. The recruiting company sorted through the tapes - I want to say the number I heard was 50? 60? PTX wasn't involved - or confirmed - at all until the last round where 8 finalists were brought in to sing for and with the band. They said any of those 8 would have worked but they chose Matt for his energy and personality. I think CourtneyAnne said, but Matt was a "featured artist" on a couple Christmas tracks and the Christmas tour in 2017 as a kind of trial basis and made a full member when they renewed their contract with RCA in February 2018.
Matt said there was a three month silence between auditions and when he got the call asking if he could move to LA on 2 weeks' notice. He got to LA the beginning of September and recorded his first track the very next day. They were rehearsing for the tour that month, too.

They are magical! Scott and Mitch are definitely my favs, their voices together are perfect, but I love the band together always! Scott just got married in July to his husband Mark. He’s a very happy newlywed! Kirstie is engaged and Matt and Kevin are also each married. Mitch is the only one not married (or engaged).

You guys need to check out their version of The Prayer. It was on their Christmas album from a few years ago so technically it can be considered Christmas. You would definitely be Mitch-slapped and the exchange between he and Scott is incredible. Please add that one to your list. It's probably in every pentaholics top five

Matt knew Pentatonix’s 6th member of the group, Ben Bram, who is their producer and co-arranger. So Ben recommended Matt.
Ben strongly recommended for Matt to send an audition tape for the mystery a capella group calling for a bass, but he didn't recommend for PTX to choose Matt. Matt made it all the way through the audition process on his own merit 😉

Matt Sallee is who you are asking about and is the bass - he has been with PTX for about 7 years so no longer 'the new guy', but might be new to you if you have been watching BabyTonix (2011 - 2017) 😁Matt is an amazing singer and has brought so much talent to Pentatonix! I think this song has a good chance for another Grammy in the same category that they won their first two Grammys in, "Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella". The transitions between the two songs are just amazing, and the song as a whole is so gentle and beautiful. Add another one to the PTX 5-part harmony collection!

Mitch and Scott are gay but they are NOT together.
Scott married his partner Mark this past July,
Kirstie is engaged and getting married this coming year she has a baby girl with Ben who was the official videographer/photographer for PENTATONIX.
Kevin got married to Leigh in 2018 and has a baby daughter.
Matt married early last year
Scott and Mitch have been friends since they were 10years old.
Kirstie is also a childhood friend of Mitch and Scott. They grew up in TX and were in musical theater and choir all through high school.
They were and still known as The Trio.
There are very early school performances of them here on CZcams way before PTX was ever formed.

Their recent album, The Greatest Christmas Hits, makes a good Christmas playlist all by itself as it is 23 older songs from them amd 8 new ones, so it is 1 hour 40 mins of songs.
They will probably do a livestream of a show from their current Christmas tour too, they have done the last couple of years, and that show is just short of 2 hours I think. Good for hearing them live but well recorded and mixed, rather than a shaky fan cam!
We will be checking out their Xmas playlist here and there this month ☺️

Great reaction. Matt is fantastic as both a singer and with the group. ❤He sounds amazing in their brand new cover, Kiss from a Rose ( I like the VEVO live version) And who knew Pure Imagination and Christmas Time belonged together in the same song? One thing you will quickly find out ( probably already have figured it out) that PTX can sing in so many genres and styles and every song has a twist. ( and not the same twist)
Grammys. Daft Punk, Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy ( from ballet Nutcracker. There are no lyrics to the ballet and they use no instruments) and Jolene ( they did with Dolly Parton and Dolly won her first Grammy for Jolene with PTX) They were nominated last year for Traditional Pop Album for Evergreen and did not win and were just nominated for best Traditional Pop Album for their Christmas Around the World. They also just released a best of Christmas that has 8 new songs including Pure Imagination/ Christmas Time. ( and lots of re releases)

Matt has a beautiful, warm and smooth voice. And he's not that new. He's been in the band for 6 years, just as long as Avi has been.

Yes the are gay but they are not dating. Scott in fact recently married. I would suspect that Scott’s size helped with all the bullying Mitch took due to his natural high crystal clear voice. Vocal cord length with incredible breath work training. They forged their vocal chops in junior high and high school musical theater. Kirstie met them there too. So the three were simply a perfect storm of baritone with several octave range, a high tenor with soprano range, and a belt it out quality mezzo soprano.

Avi didn't pick his replacement, Matt. Their arranger & 6th member did. He's also the one who found Avi in the beginning. But, in a recent interview, Matt said that Avi did sit down & talk with him for quite a while and was very helpful & sweet.

Matt replaced avi. Avi left amicably his mom was sick and he wanted to be home. He helped them find Matt. Matt has been with them for years now. Watch kiss from a rose if you wanna hear him sing.
Just so you know, Avi had absolutely nothing to do with finding Matt. It was the Ben Bram that suggested Matt and the other 4 members that chose him.

If you like Scott's voice, he released his first solo EP earlier this year. There are official videos for three of the songs -- "Mars", "Parallel" and "Four". "Four" includes footage from his wedding, and many of the songs are related to their relationship. Check out his channel, Scott Hoying.

No, not animus. Avi was exhausted from what I've come to realize is the normal Pentatonix energy level: tour for a few months, with frequent mini-breaks to write and record songs, take one month off, then do the whole thing *again* but with a few television interviews or maybe a bit in a movie ...over and over again, year after year. Then Avi's mother became very ill with cancer, and he was trying to travel back to see her any chance he could. Finally, it was just too much. There were apparently some difficulties with rights to the music they had all written together, but that was bound to happen with the collaborative process.
