There are all kinds of things wrong with the system. I took note that she bought the house three years earlier for $100,000. So, the $115,000 and $125,000 estimates were giving an apparently "very reasonable" 5% to 8% bump per year. HOWEVER, it sounds like the price of that house was massively suppressed when she bought it for $100K, if it legitimately appraised for $259,000. This is why predatory real estate investors love 'impoverished' neighborhoods. They can scoop up rock bottom prices and then rent at rates covering twice as much. They are persistent and intentionally ensure any poor person is unable to purchase a home, so they can be bled for LIFE for massively inflated rents. So many ways this is wrong. ... But this lady should sell her house for $259K YESTERDAY, and pocket $160,000 in cash. And THEN buy a cheap property in cash, and be done with the banks.

Actually the 3rd appraiser needs to be named. They over valued the house in order for the home owner to commit fraud. Their name is conveniently blacked out in the complaint.
Key facts that are missing from this biased video:
      1. She bought the house for 100k, 3 years ago.
      2. The first 2 appraisals were from mortgage brokers. The 3rd was from a private appraiser.
      3. Houses in the same street are valued at 110k - 145k range. In line with the value the first 2 appraisals have given the house.
I know you will ignore this, it doesn't fit the racism narrative but, unfortunately, not everything is as it seems, especially when so much information is conveniently left out. This is what a former president would call "fake news".

On the other hand if a homeowner simply wants to borrow money on equity, accuracy in an appraisal is paramount and the only fact should be the fair appraisal value of the home. If a home is assessed by county at $500,000, but due to improvements and sales of comparable homes in an area actually value is $700,000, if an appraiser comes in and gives an unfair appraisal of $525,000, the loss of $175,000 for the owner. I'm also a bit wary because some "studies" are flawed in design, process, or methodology, leading to results that can be flawed, skewed, or misinterpreted (intentionally or unintentionally). Study results can be used to tell a story that fits the narrative or an agenda a party is trying push. Studies can be helpful, but without information about methodology and process, it will just end up being a sound bite for the news, which is a way to easily manipulate public opinion.

So many factors go into whether you can or can't buy a house, whether you want the house your looking at or not. So turning to the race of the home owner as a reason for not selling is ridiculous. You get a lot of offers on houses not all go through. I just dont think regular average people looking for a house turn it down because of the race of the last owner. The house had the last owners stuff in it. Probably wasn't redone repainted or anything done to make it sell ready. Then they cleaned it up except the white people photo then it sold. Maybe it wasn't the white people picture maybe it was the fact that nothing else was in the house and it probably got cleaned and maybe some work done to it after the previous owner got the stuff out. Not if there’s an overwhelming data that proves this to be a routine practice not a isolated incident. Diane sawyer did cover this for a span of 30 years going back to the 80s by sending in undercover actors/agents and exposing the discrimination that exist. They even did several episodes of car dealerships and exposed their discrimination as well. Same credit score , same salary but one person pays higher interest rates than the other . This is real and it’s systemic.

Predatory lending is real discriminatory lending is real.
My wife and I purchased a new home in 2014 during that time one of our rookies at work was also looking to buy a home but he needed to clean up his credit first.
Rookie as in....he made nearly 40% less in salary than I did at the time. My wife and I went in with credit scores just under 800, excellent payment history on everything we've ever purchased two incomes (one was more than enough for what we were looking for)
MY coworker had bad credit, credit card debt a car loan that he was upside down on, he had to borrow 5 grand from his parents to even qualify for the loan and his wife doesn't work we purchased our homes about 2 months apart. Not only did he qualify for much more home than we did and lives in an amazing neighborhood that we are completely "priced out" of but 2 years later he refinanced to a lower mortgage than I have even with years of excellent credit.
His mortgage payment now is nearly the same as mine and his home is easily worth 100,000+ more than mine.

This story has some startling facets. First, what homeowner would think that their home, purchased for $100,000, would be worth about $180,000 three years later,. That's not reflective of the real market value increase in homes during that period in this economy. The first appraisal was probably right on. - - The final value after concealing her race is surprising. What changed in the marketplace? Why would the value have grown so huge, for a home purchased for $100,000 only three years earlier. What marketplace factors supported that incredible appraisal? - Gotta wonder how that appraiser arrived at that value for a home purchased three years earlier for $100,000. - - Were their major restorations and remodeling done to the home to justify that? If so, they are not mentioned in this story.

Do the appraisers work for the banks she was trying to obtain sa second mortgage from? If so, their appraisals could have reflected what the banks felt comfortable lending to her, rather than being scientific estimates of the home's market value. And if so, I could believe they discounted her creditworthiness as long as they thought she was black.
But if the appraisers were paid to give straight-up estimates of what the house was worth, then (1) it made no sense to discount the house even if they didn't like blacks, and (2) it doesn't make sense that one appraisal was such an extreme outlier as appraisers work from set methods that leave little leeway for personal creativity.

Had the same problem in Baltimore with our single family home. The appraiser walked in and immediately said the house will barely appraise for $100K without seeing anything but the Livingroom which was fairly large and well kept and that is what he appraised it at was $100K and acted like he did us a favor. Went to another lender and left a lockbox for the appraiser so we were not home. The house came back at $280K. This is not new at all unfortunately.

The whole point of this video is that the black women disclosed her race as African American, as a result, they appraised the house below the actual value. So because all the other white homes have the same value doesn't mean that her house will have the same value. This clearly happened because she's an African American. Didn't you see that as right as she acted as if she had a white brother they appraised the house for the actual value. So everything you said was false.
