- In 1975 we traveled to Nepal in a VW-Transporter T2. After 13,000 km from home we reached Kathmandu during the Monsoon season. The photos and Super 8 film show Kathmandu before the earthquakes in 2015 destroyed many buildings, temples and palaces. In this way it is a historic document. The quality of the film is not the best, as it had been digitalized of many Super 8 film reels that are half a century old.
Anyway I hope you enjoy the glimpse back in the 1970s when many young people, the Hippie generation, traveled to Nepal.
arrived dec. 1977 i pokhara after travelling from london by truck. am returning for 4th time feb.29, 2024. thanks for the memories..,.

Was in Nepal in 1980. Didn't spend much time in Kathmandu. Streets were filthy, but the food like baked dessert goods were great. After just 2 days, I took a bus to Lamasungu and hiked the 100 mile trek to Kala Patar near Everest Base Camp. Adventure of a lifetime!
