Lyrics
They say Paris is dead
Lived through London and drank through Memphis
The things you live by were once just a guess
And there ain’t no glory in the west
No there ain’t no glory in the west
Hard to think on your feet
Tired of begging them just to compete
Shoot to win can feel so bittersweet
But you take what you can get
’Cause there ain’t no glory in the west
Blazin’ on ahead - burning through it
Coming down the bend - nowhere left to go, goin’s all we know
Ridin’ past the best - and there’s still no rest
And there’s still no rest
There ain’t no glory in the west
What’s a boy to do?
Hit the road with a dollar or two
Haunted by what he knows he can’t do
Gets it off his chest
’Cause there ain’t no glory in the west
Burnin’ on ahead - blazing through it
Running blind again - nowhere left to go, goin’s all we know
Ridin’ past the best - and there’s still no rest
And there’s still no rest
And there’s still no rest
There ain’t no glory in the west
Count your blessings they’ll say
And after each midnight begins a new day
But don’t place your bets on a word that they say
They’ll put your life to rest
’Cause there ain’t no glory in the west
No there ain’t no glory in the west
There ain’t no glory in the west

as someone who keeps moving home (and now has to live alone), this video comforts me. ❤ thank you Orville!
Thankyou for everything your voice is so calm and beautiful keep singing we need you
🥺🥺🥺 ....OK! (I'm pretty just on a 'do as Orville says' level now)
You're an inspiration with wholesome values. Please keep creating, I can't get enough of you

You deserve something for saying that. Like... a medal or something.
its like he's rehearsing all these bombastic stories to tell someone and then they're gone :( ...and maybe the stories aren't even true, because "there's no glory in the west," and it's just him, alone the whole journey, talking to his horse
Mya H That's a beautiful reading of the video, you just made my day.
So sad but makes so much sense!
The song and video are pure art but I'm here to talk about how adorable it was when he waved to his horse when he was by the lake.
YES!! That made my heart skip a beat, haha! Also laughing by the fire and shaking his spoon at the sky, OUTSTANDING.
That horse was like, wtf is this white boy doing??
How did I miss this 😭 timestamp?

this is not good music and is acc bad
This is giving me high Johnny Cash vibes and I’m HERE for it.
was just about to say 'the cash is strong here' :)
I see that I am late to my Cash comment. Well done. At least we can confirm our fine ears.
This thought entered my head literally the same time I saw tour comment
yes! its his articulation i think, it's so delicate...really reminiscent of later cash stuff for sure
EXACTLY! It's so strong on the Johnny Cash. I've always said his music was a mixture of Johnny Cash and some electronica. It's a gorgeous mixture that I can get behind.
I'm a cowboy and I'm straight as fuck and I love this shit I love the fact that hes making music for everyone straight or gay
I've been trying to figure out what makes Orville's music so special, and I think it's because every song of his sounds like a classic. They're songs I've somehow known and loved before, songs that will be remembered decades from now, even when I'm hearing them for the first time. I've never experienced this with any other artist.
Glad you Hear it too
His music is what country music was always supposed to be, it has a soul to it that top 40 country just doesn't have
Well said, Abby!!
Yes!
Check out Able Jon
Orville Peck should be bigger than Star Wars by now.
This reminds me of my favorite Chekhov short story. An old cabbie's son died and he tries to talk about it with his passengers and passers-by, but no one listens. Finally he breaks down and tells everything to his horse. Like Orville here, riding through the wilderness, talking and singing to his horse because there's no one else.
But we’re listening.
Прекрасное сравнение! Спасибо Вам.
I really believe these are some of the best lyrics Orville's ever written. And such a vulnerable vocal performance... it reminds me of Johnny Cash's last days, but at the same time is distinctly Orville. There is such a profound loneliness to this song. It's absolutely incredible.
This is an accurate depiction of the life of a cowboy. A real cowboy. It is painfully lonely up here and I wouldn't trade it for the world..
I'm hearing a definite touch of Roy Orbison in his voice.
As a straight man, i have no shame loving this man. Straight tugging at my heartstrings. I would go to war for this gay lamp.
"i would go to war for this gay lamp" is an absolutely incredible phrase
When all this quarantine stuff is over, I'm gonna book a ticket to one of Orville's show
And if I get the chance to meet him, I wanna hug him as hard as i can and cry.
This man single handedly changed my perception of country music and I respect that.
No one has ever had that effect on me before. He's just so amazing.
I'm not usually a hugger, but he gives the best hugs. He's an amazing person.
Randa Speidel okay thats it, im adding “Hug Orville Peck” to my bucket list.
Same.
I can totally relate! I was never a big fan of country music but my god, when I listened to Orville’s album Pony for the first time I was HOOKED. It’s something about his voice, his lyrics, his MUSIC that resonated with me. He has really brought me out of some dark days and I couldn’t thank him enough for that. I can’t wait to see him in concert ❤️
@@TheJenahJSeries Theres also this charisma in him that really just attracts me to his music too. Hope someday we'll be able to meet him! I just wish this is all over.
His voice is like being spooned by a big muscleman who smells like whiskey and a camp fire and all he want is to make you feel safe
RIP Charles the Viking,
exactly this
On the nail
Living out an intense internal life and telling stories to no one, waiting for the chance to perform this perfect narrative you’ve been preparing for when you finally have someone to talk to, waiting and thinking and being stuck inside your head... and then finding that you’re still alone... I shouldn’t be surprised that others can relate but damn it always hits me hard when that feeling gets portrayed.
Damn you put it into words so well!
Damn this hits too hard right now
Preach!
Somber, touching, simple and sincere. What else is there really to say... One of my favourites by Orville!
I love it! I don't assume to interpret art properly, but it makes me think of a cowboy doing everything he can to make it home to someone or something only to find the house empty and cold.
But who is he coming back to? Family? A lover? An entire settlement abandoned?
Intriguing.
Amazing, let’s hope he can explain more, But your interpretation is amazing, it hit me hard. I hope you are 100% correct
It looks like he saw something horrible through that window. Something that knocked him down 😭💔
@@dunjamilutinovic4085 i feel like what he saw in the window were tombstones. or an abandoned carriage
And that why “there’s no glory in the west” 😢
Oooh thanks for adding more depth to this video for me!
My little brother (9 years old) might be the biggest Orville Peck fan. When he found out about the release date he ran around the house dancing and screaming. We watch the video the minute it dropped and he literally started crying and sang every word.
I'm 33, and so did I 😭❤️🙌
9 years old is about right for an orville peck fan
It seems you never get too old for that (because I did too!)
Sounds a bit excessive
Saw Mr Peck tonite at Massey Hall in Toronto, there was plenty of glory in Massey Hall tonite ....
This looks straight out of a video game cinematic
Right!
We’ve come so far with video games that they look better than movies and real life😂😂👏👏
Totally reminded me of Red Dead Redemption 2, especially the part where he's walking through the forest with the lantern!
@@chloe.imogen Agreed
Orville Peck is for the people.
I have seriously not ever in my life been as blown away by someone since Siouxsie Sioux!
This is the perfect combination of philosophy, song craft and cinematics.
As a little gay boy out in bumfuck who always felt disenfeanchised by country music. I love seeing an openly gay man becoming successful trailing a path forward
Even if it was a choice, hard pass on being straight.
@@JynxUOmi being straight is real cool mang, fuck you mean? Gotta get with the chicas!
@tyvek05 When did you choose to be straight?
Y'all are really gonna try this during pride month? Nah, im good over here not stifled with my bf.
@@JynxUOmi Pride what?
Gonna rent a theater and watch this on the big screen and cry all by myself in the seats
I do the tiny version. In my bed. With my headphones on. In the dark.
We are now in the Orville Cinematic Universe
'Haunted by what he knows he can't do...'
I won't claim to interpret it truthfully, but only what it made me feel. It was about choosing a path for yourself, however lonely may it be, a path that will one day end, and there might not even be glory await at the end, but despite all this, this is the path you choose, and for a moments of riding along this path, you are happy, and that's all that matters. I'm a person who cry very easily but this made me feel such beautiful thing that I can not cry at that. It is a good feeling, it is comforting, somehow. This song is as beautiful as the time I heard it live back in Brisbane, Australia
That's the truth!
Agreed. There is an honesty about the song that cracks through one's defenses and then rests warmly inside.
Orville Peck is a hero! He has been hard at work supporting Black Lives while also coming out with more outstanding content.
He is just so cool and mysterious but at the same time so goofy
yesss lmao when he was waving to his horse!!!! that was cute i wonder what the horse was thinking
@@f.t633 Horse was thinking, "I love him so much."
But goofy in a good way though
You forgot basic.
@@ianross9738 yes like all of us tbh

Yesterday was the first time I've heard this song. My gosh, it is so good that I felt like it hit me somewhere in my soul. What a talented singer Orville Peck is. I am very glad that this music exists. This is my new favorite song.
WITH EVERY SONG HE RELEASES HE GET BETTER AND BETTER
Homeboy is criminally underrated, I've been listening to him for a few years now and absolutely love him. For some reason in my head I call him "Orvy"
I don't give a shit what any of my friends say, this man makes better music than 98 percent of what you hear on country radio nowadays.

Oh yes he is. Much better than country music today. X

It's an Orville house now.
Hat tip
you're doing the lords work
Our king, tattooed and tasseled, bathed in gold and grey on the back of a shaggy brown pony, sings us songs of the dying old and sparkling new against the backdrop of a tumultuous, freezing world.
I like that...

I want an Orville Peck and Lord Huron mashup.
OH PLEASE YES
@@tinylol do we actually deserve that even now in 2024?
I cannot die without seeing him live at least ONCE in my life
I got to see him a year ago and it was 100% worth it
I really like that this song works on multiple levels. Like he could be talking about the Americans west or he could be talking about occidentalism and western society as a whole
!! i live in a country in Asia where a great portion of our economy relies on labor export to the west (especially USA). the first time i heard this song it struck me so personally bc incidental to that is an idealization of the american dream. "there's no glory in the west" mirrors the disillusionment in realizing that it is not what it's cracked up to be. at the end of the day, ur working a low-income job with zero regard for ur health, surrounded by people who view u as the "other" and at times may even be hostile, and so far away from home and the ppl u love.
Or Hollywood! Love the metaphor of the west.
ORVILLE PECK IS MY ONE TRUE FATHER YOUR MUSIC IS EVERYTHING I NEED IT FOREVER BRO
His bro and your father? Lol jk ..fo reals he is amazing
@@SunShine-sv8vx things get jiggy in the south but this man is everything
Well, he's my son, so that make you my grandson, I guess.
Growing up gay and trans in the Appalachias I used to hate country. But hearing your music feels like a lonely but sweet coming home. It makes me believe I don't have to hate that side of myself. I can love it and who I am.
i seriously love your profile pic
You sure know how to pull at my heart fringe, Pa'dner.
There's some Roy Orbison influence in the vocal...stunning
Beautifully haunting and wildly enchanting
Thank you for changing country music... your contemporary, diverse, imaginative, and unique style of honoring legendary artists like Dolly and Johnny Cash is breathtakingly beautiful. ❤️🌹
This one makes my heart ache
It isn't like a movie to me; it's a memory. A memory of living in THAT West. Where the tall trees & winds are your constant company. LOVELY take of the place that taught me how STRONG I am.
Well, after this, I needed to sit down too. Honest, melancholic, and so heartbreakingly wholesome.
"Nowhere left to go / Going's all we know" ~ Love that
That little part took me by surprise and made me cry for some reason
He's always had that Johhny Cash vibes, but in this song is just, wow! The rhythm, the lyrics, the simplicity of the song, the voice
Openly Obsessed with Orville over here ❤️
kinda want to ride my horse in red dead redemption listening to this on repeat
I love listening to him while I play rdr2
Him and Colter Wall are great listens while riding around ✌🏾
Can highly recommend this, great song to ride to
Oh. You sing country AND western music both? ❤🧡💛💚💙💜🖤🤍🤎 Amazing.
This song exemplifies exactly what’s wrong with entertainment from Hollyweird to Nashvegas: we have to dig deep to find the real talent out here. If music and movies were “fair” this song would win Best Original Song at the Oscars, Mr. Peck’s arms would be overloaded with awards at the next CMA’s, and if I wanted to see him perform live I wouldn’t have to do a 5 day cruise outta Miami-I can’t cruise anymore-too old. Anyway…you’re amazing, #OrvillePeck I can’t wait for my husband to come home from work so I can let him listen to you. He’s gonna love your music, too. We will celebrate Valoween 2024 kitchen dancing to your music! Thank you.
That is some serious social distancing
Aaahahaha
LORDY he is one purdy man....
Nowhere left to go, but goin's all we know

Still my favourite song of yours Orville, Let Me Drown close 2nd.
Perfect echo of melancholy & contempt. So beautiful ❤
With everything that’s goin on in the world and on social media, this was a really nice escape from it. Your fans love you, Orville.
Just saw this in concert with my big sis and my big bro and it was the only song I knew but damnit I knew every word cause this song In particular means alot to me
Just watching this on Rage in Australia, very beautiful! Great voice, visually gorgeous too ♡
We get a second video within 2 months time? Thank you Orville for sharing your art with us. The masked bandit of our hearts.
that was literally beautiful oh my god
You are my new favourite singer bud, and I don't usually listen to country music. You remind me of the great Johnny Cash and I can see a bright future for you. Much love. I feel you are changing the music industry forever, and I love it
Very interesting video for a haunting song--Peck's lone cowboy becomes the spectral star in his own ghost story.
Orville, You NEVER cease to amaze me! Saw you Live in Tampa for Pony. One of the BEST shows I've EVER SEEN! You continue to Raise the Bar, and THAT is something to be proud of! RIDE ON MASKED SINGER! RIDE ON!
And those Lovely Words you spoke a couple Days ago COULDN'T be More Prudent at a time like this.. We Need Unity... And the Kindness Of MEN! Amen Orville, Amen..
those are some glorious canadian ass rockies. maybe a tiny bit of glory
This mans voice is so smooth and buttery holy shit. 👌
Wasnt givin a penny until I heard ur voice. Tought country was dead but you sir is resurrection itself
Such a powerful song, another classic from Orville. I take it that he returns home and sees the graves of his family out the window. No reward for the suffering and hardship, no home to return to. No Glory In The West
Orville, your voice haunts me, never stop singing please
This sounds like it's begging to be in a Cohen brothers movie
I love how he's talking to the horse like it's straight out of the fourth part of Gulliver's Travels. Love the song!
Is Orville incapable of releasing a bad track? Yes, yes he is. His music is ALWAYS perfect! Love this!!!!!!
The flavor is immaculate
The Revenant 2 is looking pretty cool.
My sons bedtime routine ends with two songs by Orville. He is almost two and adores him. Needless to say, that little boy and I share a bond over Orville’s music. Keep putting out these beautiful songs brother.
What a song, what an album, what an artist! Damnnnn....
There Ain't No Glory In Hate ! ✊🏾✊🏻✊🏽✊🏿✊🏼 #UnconditionalLove
This is a postcard from a country called Pain. He writes to say: “wish you were here”. It’s harsh there, you can even hear the blackheart wind, but the scenery is lush and beautiful, despite all the thorns. He writes to us all, us here in the country called The Wasteland.
I like when he waves at the horse :)
I first heard this 2 weeks ago and can't get it out of my head. I've seen people comment on the different ways they interpret the meaning of the song, and I think they are all correct. What a piece of art. Holy smokes.
Gay Canadian cowboy rep. This is like listening to classic country, but being comforted by the sweet video.
Thank you Orville for showing love and kindness. Love.🙏♥️
This so perfectly captures the essence of media about the end of cowboys and the wild west era as time moved on and technology progressed until they could no longer live the glory days life style that cowboys came to represent. From the long journey on horse to coming home to an empty farm house, where the family you once knew has moved on to the big city and left that life behind. Those days may be in the pass but music like this keeps the essence of the wild west alive
O MOI BOG! he is so handsome, beautiful and gallant, his voice is honey to my ears
THIS IS THE BEST DISCOVERY I'VE MADE . This reminds me so much of Cash's "Hurt"
I discovered Orville through the Willie Nelson song but every song I've listened to since has been killer
I think this is my fave song of Orville's so far. Love the rhythm kept by the acoustic guitar.
What a gorgeous song and video! Love the cinematography, coloring, and all the old western influences!!! Congrats to you and all the crew for another bullseye!
Beautiful collaboration.
This gives me Over The Garden Wall vibes - which is a huge compliment because that show has one of the most amazing soundtracks I've ever heard.
Just saw hime live singing this, and I’m now in love with his voice, if you ever get the chance, this dude is a proper live performer ☺️
This. Is. GORGEOUS. Beautiful cinematography. And quickly becoming my new favorite Orville song. It sounds SO MUCH like Johnny Cash - LOVE it!
You remind and comfort me like Elvis. Hats down, to the amazing scenery as well. Into the Wild is what immediately came to my mind.
This guy is awesome!!!! Who cares what he chooses to do in HIS life! Anyone starts shit with Oroville, starts shit with me! ✊✊✊✊ got your back hos!
My guilty pleasure! I want him to sing to me and only me for eternity!
