  • Building an Upright Bass by Hand. The Upright Bass is the largest and deepest stringed instrument of Violin Family. This series of videos will show what goes into making one of these magnificent instruments.
    In this second video of the series, we show the final steps in completing the rib structure is the foundation of the entire instrument. This is what hold all of the pieces together and gives the instrument most of its interior volume.

    I don't understand if you need to trim that much why not cut it to a smaller size to start with

      Thinking the same thing. Guess for effect. He skips over the entire rib building except one quick part, no moulding, yet shows us him planing down the ebony pieces for two minutes.

    Nice, as brescian pattern the back will be flat or round? What about the front? Quarter sawn or slab cut fir?
