End is Nigh Review 2.0

  • The End is Nigh quickly communicates its standards and design within it’s opening minutes. Movement is steady, deliberate, and measured. There are no running starts, sprint buttons, or fancy backflips here, what you have at your disposal at the start is what you’ll have for the rest of the game. There’s no level or world select, the game simply starts, and flows. You have a jump, ledge grab, fast fall, and wide jump; with wide jumps being performed by leaping away from the ledge you’re hanging from. Your maneuverability in the air is really flexible, and the sheer amount of control will probably throw you off and land you in spikes until you get the hang of it. Chunks of floors, ceilings, and buildings tend to fall and reveal secrets as you navigate obstacles, and you’ll find yourself wondering if it’s worth trekking back in the middle of a screen often to nab a collectible. Slowly gaining the muscle memory required to beat some of these stages is really... really gratifying.Indie platformers are all over the place, TEiN doesn't exactly stand out, but McMillens careful level design and considered stages make this a worthy purchase for most hard platformer fans.

According to Edmund, the mega tumor segments were actually designed by Tyler alone, whereas McMillen himself designed the main rooms required for progression.

It's really awesome that you came back around and remade a review to make it less bias and more of a review instead of something akin to a comparison video - not that I didn't like the last End is Nigh Review, but this video definitely seems like it achieves what it was setting out to do a lot more than the other review.
Again, it's awesome that you saw criticism, and you made an even better video using it. Can't wait to see your next video!

I wanna mention how much I love Nevermore. It’s the one area in the game that makes me feel like a badass even when I died so many times. It’s definitely the music.

Nice video! I agree on alot of your points however, I have some thoughts I would like to share about some of the points you made. The music at least to me never gets repetitive and fits the areas perfectly. The fact that its all classical music remixes adds to the games atmosphere of the past being destroyed and the future being distorted and destroyed. I also feel as if you were being a bit to harsh on the mega tumor secrets. All of those areas have a consistent set up that can be learned through trial and error. I do agree that those rooms look very intimidating to new players and can drive them off from playing that room. At the end of the day I know we can all agree this is a very solid game that does not come without its flaws.
Edit: My opinion is very biased because this is my favorite game so dont take my word as truth. This was a great review from a credible source and the quality of this review alone deserves a sub from anyone watching.

I agree with all these arguments, you can learn the flow of the secret levels and I don't seem to get tired of the music. That said, I guess I still have to get to the harder parts. I am just past The wall of sorrow.. But I do have a lot of tumors haha!
Also I cannot seem to enjoy super meat boy. I think it's too fast and too floaty for me

I hate retrograde 8, that's debatably a better example of a "too much" screen cus you just showed 3 that are secret areas

It’s becomes obvious that Edmund was the talent behind the original meatboy when you compare Forever and Nigh. Unfortunately, until Team Meat bankrupts due to producing nothing but garbage it’s not looking like we’ll ever get another quality meatboy title.

Your explanation for why it's ok to compare the end is night with super meat boy makes no sense at all. You're missing the point. In the original review you refused to engage with any differences the end is nigh has compared to meat boy, instead calling the level design lazy because it requires a larger degree of precision. You literally went "well he failed at making meat boy again" and then just backpedalled so your commentary would seem more nuanced. This is garbage game reviewing
