    It's those videos which REALLY help a landlocked surfer to make the most out of every upcoming trip. Scientific approach and a ton of knowledge it is what makes Chris the best coach out there.

    Really need to thank you for such an elaborate explanation of this for a new beginner like me and my son. it is massively educational and thorough, the best explanation we’ve seen after many hours of searching. Makes us want to join one of you guy’s retreats. Many thanks!

      I'm really stoked to hear that, thank you. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Since this video isn't some 2 minute or less tik Tok video, the algorithm doesn't like. people seem to want soundbites... learning to read waves isn't a soundbite. it's subtle and nuanced. I'm glad to hear you found it insightful. Thank you

    Great tutorial! Definitely takes time in the water to learn to read waves but the tips in this vid help knowing what to look for and what to focus your attention on when in the water. Thanks!!

      you're welcome! with a few tips of what to specifically look for in the water can help you to simply pay "better" attention to what matters, and help that learning process.

    Just the video I was looking for. Post glassy session on Lombok could have gone better today had I watched the video beforehand.
    Great tips 9975 hours to go.

    Bra, i've spent the last year surfing weekly. if it weren't for being out of position i would have caught so many more 🌊. thnx for the insights 🤙🏼 yewww!

    • @SurfStrengthCoach
      @SurfStrengthCoach  Před 14 dny

      Surfing is 100% reliant on positioning. That probably matters more than any other variable (besides reading waves)

      thank you. it's pretty tough area of discussion to speak about with clarity and accuracy. so much of it is just personal perception,.

      can't tell you how many times i've heard "well just paddle harder" lol

    • @SurfStrengthCoach
      @SurfStrengthCoach  Před 2 lety

      @@tyfenn worst surfing advice ever. if you ever work with a coach that yells at you to paddle, find a new coach. **that said, there are times people need to alter intensity for sure, but more than anything a coach should work towards creating mental calm and clarity in their student. not screaming at them to paddle while they're already stressed out.

    Can you do one of these on less obvious breaks and conditions? Blown out short period wind chop. For example, every spring in San Diego, theres a lot of South wind and short period wind swell.

    • @SurfStrengthCoach
      @SurfStrengthCoach  Před 2 lety +2

      Blown out short period chop is just chop. You just have to work to find short little ramp sections and closeouts to do a turn off of. I personally find something else to go do on days like that nowadays. Hah!

  • @clearthejunk
    @clearthejunk Před 2 lety

    Cris....I know this is a loaded question but is it possible to surf closeouts? Zuma Malibu is my spot but often it's more close out waves than anything.

    • @SurfStrengthCoach
      @SurfStrengthCoach  Před 2 lety +1

      you can surf any type of wave you want to. the type and shape of wave will dictate what type of surfing you can do. closeouts offer an opportunity to make the drop and maybe do a turn. if that's the type of surfing you want to do then surf some closeouts
