Another note, geno should’ve put back ice and Caroline as soon as he saw the team wasn’t improving. if nothing is changed, you MAKE a change. Uconn had many chances but didn’t take them. NC state WANTED to win. They were much more faster, uconn’s defence was lacking. The reason why the girls looked good the previous season was because Paige wasn’t there and the girls took the opportunity to show up. They need to also show up when Paige is there to triple the trouble. Paige has always been the one to show up during difficult games, literally carried the team on her back. I love this team, but they need to blend in with Paige. Ps. It’s concerning the amount of fouls not called on uconn’s behalf. My girl nika was smacked..

Fudd is injured.. once her knees go out she can’t score and she’s slow. Geno plays Fudd too many minutes for her body, risking another injury. IMO she’s great for 3-4 minutes a quarter MAX.

She scorched NC State two years ago and knocked them out in double overtime so, of course there's a revenge factor and she gained muscle weight to protect herself coming off screen's. That player ran her over like a football player and laid her out. The fact that UConn doesn't have a Center or a big player who can give some hard fouls to keep the cheap Shot's to a low number without paying that person back your struggle to protect yourself star players or player. UConn needs 10 fouls to give or two very physical player's who job is to lay someone out on the court when they take liberties with a player .
I’m honestly not impressed with coach Geno like u can see azzi is having a bad day why not put Ashlyn shade and see what she got because she is a good shooter just for a little time But this is a good early loss so that they can correct their weaknesses Paige is coming for that national player of the year award ❤🥇 and great performance by qadence samuels I really believe Ashlyn shade would have gave us the same performance!!

I know it's only been 2 games but I'm not impressed with Ice Brady at all. Samuels is looking great off the bench. Defense sucked. Saniyah Rivers killed us. Reminds me of the girl from Arkansas that ate us up for 37 points about 3 years ago lol.

I agree re the Arkansas game-same thing happened! It also happened in the Final Four vs. Arizona in 2021 when Aari McDonald tore them up AND Arizona kicked their butt on defense. The messages are loud and clear, but UCONN just doesn't seem to realize that defense is going to win the tough games. UCONN did pull it together vs. Marykand in a blowout win, but that was at home. They need to bring their A game on the road too. Every team has UCONN on their radar-UCONN needs to get it in gear!

NC State scored 32 points in the 4th Quarter. UCONN had 24 in the 4th Q. Defense was sorely lacking in this one. NC State got all the 50/50 balls, all the tough rebounds, they fought for every possession, plus had the crowd in their favor. UCONN stood on their heels and watched, they also didn't move on offense-but still scored 81 points. Fudd had a terrible game. UCONN actually scored more baskets from the field 33 vs. 31 but NC State made 22 foul shots vs. 11 for UCOON-this wasn't a case of bad officiating, but a case of UCONN committing way too many fouls-and the fouls they committed were because of their lack of team defense. Paige had an OK game but was obviously not yet at 100%. This was only the 2nd game of the season, so there's a long way to go, and this will be a huge lesson in the growth of CT's team-especially on the defensive end.
1st half: too many missed shots without rebounders in position. NCST was setting up a wall of rebounders, leaving no gaps for ours to get to the rim. Not enough layups and part of that was that NCSt bumped grabbed pushed everybody near the rim to throw it off. Refs called everything in favor of NCSt. Watching a ref hang her head in shame is a sad thing. Any contact went their way. KK didn't look comfortable as SG next to Paige as PG. 2nd half: Aaliyah's shooting is off. I think the NCSt pushing around the rim threw her off. Her whole game is off and that shifts the burden to 3pt shooters. That's not a reliable offense, though NCSt was doing that really well. NCSt was defending in a different way than I've seen. They always had 2-layers of defense on every play. Our player would beat the first and run into a roadblock on the 2nd. Most dramatically when Aubrey ran into their center. New stuff is hard to beat. Height doesn't always ensure rebounds, but it sure helped NCSt block some shots.
I actually wrote down a laundry list of issues that UCONN has to fix. Just imagine of NC had a decent press. The score would have been wider. UCONN threw away a lot of passes, missed a bunch of open shots and layups. It was almost as if the team was stunned that they were getting beat off the dribble and out shot everywhere. Geno has no response during the game. Ducharme is very slow, can't jump, stiff legged. UCONN's half-court offensive-sets looks as stagnant and predictable as it did 2 years ago. Too many people standing around after passing the ball.
This team really has a problem when it comes to rebounds. playing small ball only works if you got the shooters to back it up - and azzi fudd 4-13 and 1-7?! come on fudd you made a lot of really bad decisions tonight. Coach gave her way too many minutes with this kind of performance. Caroline only 2 pts and no rebounds?! i was hoping she could help aaliyah more on the rebounding end... At least the game of Paige and Qadance gives some hope for the futur, Qadance looks extremly confident for a freshman and seems to fit in right away, maybe she needs to start soon instead of Fudd or Ducharme. Again: Fudd 35 minutes and 9 pts with 1-7 from beyond the arc... that is not just bad that is terrible and lost the game!

Bad games for both Caroline and Azzi....Caroline defense against these kind of players (too quick) isn't good enough. She's too slow. Defense overall was terrible..They need to improve...Ice seems to have the freshman jitters but hopefully that will go away...Hopefully we will see more of both Aubrey and Qadence against these type of teams. We will see..

Now after the concussion she's just out of it....hope she can pull it together somehow. If she doesn't start, she can't come off the bench at 3/4 speed like she is now...

So, they lost: big deal. Geno lost his mind & blamed Paige Bueckers. That was a mistake that came from the Diana Terazzi error where all tubby had to do was sit on the bench & watch her win games. Now, he has to manage a team full of point guards while he sits Ice Bradey & Dewberry on the bench. That's B.S. If he said, "Azzi Fudd stunk." it would have been true, but very destructive to Azzi because it's only one game. Bottom Line: Geno has to learn how to get the most out of the "Guard Squad" and he has to play his "Big Girls". He has to come up with a line-up with guards, forwards & Ice Bradey. Start with Paige & KK at guard, put Patterson & Edwards at power forward & Ice at center. Work Fudd in with Nikki M. at guard & let Fudd bring the ball up. Sub in Sweet Caroline at forward because she knows how to move the ball. Spell Ice with Dewberry. That said, here is some ace advice for Edwards, Patterson, Dewberry & Griffin: you can all shoot free-throws, so maneuver around so every jump-shot you take is from free-throw distance. Moreover, every shot should be aimed at the bottom of one of the metal net hangers, so maneuver to free-throw distance & zero in on a net hanger directly opposite you to get more accuracy. In case there is confusion, the net is hung from a dozen "metal hangers" soldered to the rim. OMT, Azzi, you are a point guard; therefore, you sometimes need to move with the ball before you shoot it (ex. 3rd Q, 4:20). So, work the ball enough for you to feel in control a bit before you shoot. One last thing, if Amari Dewberry can't help out in a game like this, it's proof that Geno blew it out the Kazoo with Piaf. This loss should rest on Geno's shoulders because he doesn't know how to manage the talent he has.

The UCONN program is known for its ability to shut down the top scorer of other teams.. that did not happen this game. Not sure if this is 'fixable' with the current players... however if anyone can fix this,.. the UCONN staff certainly can.
THAT was actually their strategy last year against UCONN, one of the NC State players said something in an interview about a "new strategy" or something to that effect, then watching the game you could tell every time taking it to the hoop they would flop and UCONN ended up in foul trouble like they did in this game too. AND win or lose...the REFS SUCK!

Yep. Q was really good. It's still early in the season and NCSt was playing like a final 4 game. It shows they've been overlooked in the rankings.

Azzi's game has been the same since she got to UConn. Edwards has improved every year, Nika too. Fudd needs to do the same.

I really have to agree. She didn't do much and got beat multiple times.
At this point 2 injured knees are done and she can’t keep up… geno left azzi out there way too long. Unfair to Fudd and her teammates.

The long rebounds all seemed to go the way of NCSt. I think that part was flukish. But the shorter ones were good NCSt rebounding.
