I love this pattern butIs that really a 2.5mm hook? seems so small to me😮 can I use a 4.0mm??
Any size you are comfortable with should be fine, as long as your stitches are not too loose.
I often make 2 or 3 mini samples, trying different size hooks with a given thread/yarn. Then I decide which sample looks/feels the best, and adjust the pattern stitches accordingly.😃
What does 'hdc' mean, please??
Half-double crochet. Yarn over, go through stitch as for a double crochet, but then hook yarn and pull it through all three loops at once.

On second row, why aren’t you telling us to yarn over go through stitch yarn over and go through previous stitch draw through all loops. You’re just saying do 2/ half double crochets and same space but that’s not what you’re doing .
