The landfall of hurricane beryl brought severe conditions to Galveston, TX proper. Shots of wind damage, waves at the sea wall, waves at the pier, hurricane force wind blowing across the main highway with motorists meandering around, neighborhoods flooded with surge.

Why did they leave those flags up in a hurricane?

Flags and a swinging stoplight. Must be a slow news day.

We moved here 2 years ago. The downtown area floods when there’s a cloudburst. (Asking why would anyone move here is like asking someone who lives on the Chesapeake bay or in Miami why would they move there.)
Aaaaanyway…. Clean up is underway and we have hundreds if not thousands of linesmen here restoring power. ✌️

Whoda thought that living on the shoreline of the ocean would result in a little flooding.

You should have gone to other spots. That part of galveston floods regularly. Especially when its high tide.

For those in Galveston that are on a bit higher ground but have to have flood insurance, the bad news for them is that flood insurance is likely going to triple in 2024. This is because the National Flood Insurance Program, the socialist program that makes it possible for rich people to get insurance for their summer homes by the shore, is broke, and congress is set to defund it in September. The only thing that will save it is a completely new rate structure by region, and under this plan, areas that flood regularly will see their rates triple, while areas where it only floods every 50 years, will see their rates drop by about 1/3rd.

It astounds me why people continue to live in these low line areas. These weather conditions continue every year and getting worse. I’m empathetic but, starting to lose sympathy. Good luck to all in any case!!!

The only reason it’s possible is because flood insurance in Texas is covered by FEMA.
Same in Florida. Without federal tax dollars these states would collapse
