  • In this road trip travel vlog, Kevin and I drove up Highway 395, before heading to Rock Creek Lake, California to do some Eastern Sierra hiking. We hiked out of the Mosquito Flats Trailhead into the Little Lakes Valley before branching up toward Mono Pass and the Ruby Lakes trail.
    We reached Ruby Lake and spent some time by the freezing cold alpine water before heading back down. Kevin even jumped in to the ice cold water! This is one of the best day hikes in the Sierras, and a personal favorite of mine. We ended the adventure by camping near Bishop.

    Stayed at French Camp many times..When others were full. Plus close down to other great locations.

    Thanks for sharing! 7 years ago I camped at French Camp & hiked up Mesquito Flats Trail (from the campground) to Ruby Lake! This takes me down memory lane. I miss that experience - most beautiful hike ever - so grateful you posted!

    It sucks to find all campsites full...I think thats a big motivator for people to buy a rooftop tent or a truck camper or a tear drop trailer to boondock.

      Isn't it so gorgeous?? The lake we hiked to was Ruby Lake, I guess there are more lakes up there with gem names

    Great video! How long did it take you to get to Ruby Lake? Thanks!

      @TheAwkwardTourists  Před 3 lety +1

      It took a couple of hours, it's just over 4 miles to the lake. It's a high altitude though, so it was slow going! But totally worth it

    Very nicely done! I hiked to Ruby Lake many years ago, awesome! I’m in the area right now for some leaf peeping. BTW... I love the way you snapped your fingers and the tent sprang right up! 🤣. I can’t believe you dove into that lake full body! Did you regret it? 🙈

      It was cold but I don't think you can ever regret taking a quick swim in such a gorgeous spot!

    Did you guys get altitude sickness at all?

    Bro when campsites are “full” anywhere along 395, you just make your own “remote” campsite. Been doing it that way for 30+ years. Just leave no trace when you pack up. There’s endless places to “hide” along the west side of 395 and some hidden gems along the east side of 395. LA city property won’t let you overnight. But BLM will. Forrest property won’t swear you for an over nighter. Just blend it deep and you’re set.

      Yeah, we have done the BLM camping before, but we wanted access to a shower and toilet this time
