- In addition to the "Three Greatest Waterfalls in Japan" - Nachi-no-Taki, Kegon-no-Taki, and Fukurota-no-Taki - we will also introduce Shomyo-taki, which is known as the highest waterfall in Japan!
Nachi-no-Taki, with a drop of 133 meters, is the largest single waterfall in Japan in terms of drop. The waterfall is designated as a "scenic beauty" by the national government and is also registered as a "World Heritage Site" as part of the "Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range". The combination of the three-story pagoda of Seigantoji Temple and Nachi Falls is also spectacular.
Kegon no Taki is a magnificent waterfall where water from Lake Chuzenji in Oku-Nikko falls down a 97-meter cliff in one fell swoop, making it stand out among the many famous waterfalls around Nikko. The waterfall basin seen up close from the Kanbaku-dai (viewing platform), which can be reached by the Kegon waterfall elevator, is very powerful, and if you are lucky, you can also see Japanese serows, a special natural treasure.
Fukuroda Falls is a large waterfall with a drop of 120 meters and a width of 73 meters, located in the Okukuji Valley in northern Ibaraki Prefecture, and is also known as the "Four Degrees Waterfall" because it flows in four stages down a large rock wall. From May to June, when much of the snow melt flows in, Han-no-ki Waterfall appears on the right side of the Shomyo-taki Waterfall, and the two waterfalls flow down to form a large V-shaped waterfall.
The Hannoki Waterfall has a drop of 500 meters, which is even greater than that of the Shomyo Falls, the highest waterfall in Japan, but since it does not exist except during the snowmelt season, it can be called the "phantom highest waterfall in Japan".

私は那智の滝が一番好きですね。華厳の滝は人工物っぽいし、袋田の滝は形状がイマイチですし。ただ、袋田の滝は私の実家から３キロ位下流にあるので馴染みはありますけど、ついでに我が家の生活排水も混じってますが。
