I found it quite validating to see even someone with your level of expertise have to wrestle with the thrashing fish we call SketchUp! The difficulties you experienced around the 3:30 mark and beyond perfectly illustrate why I can never, ever finish making something with it!!
Try the scale tool instead of push pull all the time. You can infer lengths by hovering on an edge.
