Not sure where that is said in the video... but when that is said in youtube videos in general, generally they already had the idea to do it some time later, and for this video release it was going to be something else, or at least filming something else, but that idea fell through at least temporarily for whatever reason, so they decide to do the other thing earlier than intended. Which could still have involved a good bit of planning, earlier than that particular day, or at least early on the same day, but likely it was already in the works and it just came to fruition earlier than intended. Hence, "we weren't planning on this episode today". That doesn't at all mean that it's completely spare of the moment with no time to spare whatsoever. Though.... that still isn't ruled out, either. Having that stuff in the video, doesn't disprove the statement.

You can fly as risky or safe as you like. Sure, flippy-floppying close to concrete walls like Steele is fun but it'll quickly cost you an arm and/or a motor. Just cruising around over grass is somewhat boring but it'll train your muscle memory and you can go from there with rolls and flips without much risk of breaking your quad. Just one thing: If your video connection drops out just disarm. Do not try to fly through it, you'll end up crashing your quad with no reference where it went down (except if you have GPS and the battery did not disconnect and you have either telemetry or get video back).

If it wasn't for SIM I think that I might have gotten to discourage to continue with the hobby. It's a must-have tool for anybody that is serious about FPV. And the best thing about crashing and breaking your stuff is learning how to fix it. Thanks for another great video guys.... by the way just so you know, I sooo want to party with you guys. I live in West Pasco so you tell me the place in time and I'll be there.👍👍👍

I think the main difference between real life and simulator is psychological, as on the sim you're not afraid to crash and break stuff and you don't have to wait to fly again, you just respawn

This is how I have always set up for my friend when him and I fly. He gets motion sick from goggles, so we did the TV aspect and it allowed him to use my quad to fly. It's a great concept to give people options. Though... I will note, I do this same grip... #NoShame.

nice video.... I also still fly in the sim way more than real-world flying, still scared of busting up my drones. What I like to do is plug my HDO2s into my computer and use them while playing the sim. That helped me get used to wearing my goggles and what to exspect while flying with them on.

Simulators is how I also learned to fly UAV’s, from fixed wing to helicopters to drones, my adaptation/acclamation to real world flying was seamless and natural but my real world danger factor needed adjustment, had to learn basic up keep skills and field etiquette though, that was fun. At the air club older pilots wouldn’t believe that’s how I learned to fly because they learned by crashing and fixing. I also took real single engine aircraft flight lessons where I performed better then an average greenhorn. Simulators are the best.

Many years ago I flew RC planes for several years. I think that was detrimental to learning to fly a quad. It is SO different.
I´m 9 hours in on Liftoff; and I can now fly almost where I want to :)
I´ll put on many more hours before I buy a real quad.

I tried it with a pocket projector that uses R+G+B lasers (it draws the image like CRTs do and doesn't need focusing), plugged into the output of my goggles, flying my Mobula 6 indoors so I couldn't easily break anything.
It was difficult at first trying to concentrate on the image on the wall with the actual quad mere feet away in my peripheral vision, but after a while I started getting the hang of it. Will have to try it again one day.
