Working at Red Top sporting goods once a week during the season, I’ve seen nothing but great things from them lately. Their PCH 1 piece popping rods are incredible value with Alps double lock nut reel seats and Alps guide trains for $199.99. The heaviest model is rating to throw 2-10 oz and has the backbone equivalent of something like a Black Hole Cape Cod Special 80n or Ghost Hunter 200. One of our Charter Captain’s customers landed a 211lb bluefin in about 90 minutes in back September with the heavy Okuma PCH, A Saltiga 6500h with 80lb JB mainline with a 130lb Premiere wind-on from Basil on a Siren Deep Seductress in “black tie affair” - He said the rod loaded very well under pressure and wasn’t killing anyone, but he said when he took the rod and really needed to break the fish out of a death circle that the rod just locked up at the stripper guide and allowed him to lean on the fish as hard as he could using “30+ realistic pounds of drag at times”. I’ve only handled the rods and put a bend in them at the shop but you can tell it’s just got horsepower for days and that Okuma has been doing their homework.
