  • Here's one if the city's brand new rear loaders working on a dirt alley route. There's been a few changes to the specs since the last batch of Pak-Mors, the biggest one being the CNG powered engine driving the truck. It sounds like a CNG engine would, but still pretty close to the original. There's also some changes to the lights and signage. One thing that hasn't changed in the PTO sound when the packer starts going.
Although I would like to claim I have the first video of one of these, I have to give credit where it is due here. Another ESD fan, TheTrashman21, beat me to it • Video .

awesome post, can't be as fun when you're in unpaved alleys and it's like impossible to slide or even just roll a cart pushing it forward.. cool trick at 3:30, never seen that before even though it's so simple. happy to see a 30 hand loaded and of course the lady behind the wheel doing her part, getting out when warranted and all. thanks for linking to my dkb disposal vid here talking about loud trucks. decently satisfied with both trucks showcased, and I'm now completely okay with cng as long as future trucks continue to sound nearly identical to the last generation. that asl actually sounded more like 815-180 & similar octos, soo much to my approval.

Trashman242 the unsaved alleys were quite irritating for the helper and you can obviously tell. I remember the first moment when I heard this truck driving I thought it sounded like a Santa Monica scorpion, but was pleasantly surprised when the PTO started up and I heard that familiar whine. there’s something about how ESD will always find a way to keep it old school with brand new trucks that I just can’t get enough of.

Great job! These trucks are pretty entertaining! Like seeing all the material being packed away!

Tony McMahon I’ve seen her on recycle a couple other times. She probably switches throughout the week

Some days are greens some are recycling. Some are trash.. depends on the day

  • @socalgarbagetrucks2585

I'm actually pretty surprised and pleased at how free of contamination most of that recycling was. I remember hearing San Diego's recycling rates were down and contamination up at some point... is that changing now?

SoCalGarbageTrucks On a semi auto route like this one where a helper will leave heavily contaminated carts, it’s amazing how quickly people learn what they can recycle. San Diego had a 67% landfill diversion rate in 2015. We’re doing exceptionally well with “blue bin recycling”. The problem is that San Diego (like a lot of SoCal) stubbornly refuses to embrace the types of food waste collection programs that are common throughout NorCal.

About that last sentence, you couldn't be more right about many cities not wanting to embrace organics instead of just green waste. I'm sure most cities are just waiting for contracts to end or renew. But considering that not many composting facilities like that exist down here, I can understand why haulers are only limiting it to commercial, as that's required by law unlike residential currently.
