That fish you caught in the fish trap is actually pretty rare, it’s called a pirate perch, they have a small native range and they’re are very few places where they are locally common
Let's hope the bass don't eat him.
I had one as a pet for a long time, I thought it was perhaps an exotic fish
Yep, Pirate perch.
That’s really cool. I came to the comments to find out if anyone identified that little catch. Thanks
Trawling the comments to identify that fish. Cheers mate 👍
Definitely frog eggs. Snails and frogs are a great sign of a healthy ecosystem. Kudos to 5acre pond!
Definitely snails and frog eggs FTW!!!
It’s toad eggs
@@kimtrumpunToad eggs are deposited in a string fashion, not a mass.
Snails are a sign that my crops are being eaten.
As long as they are indigenous snails...
Should do a swim bait fishing challenge. Every time you catch a fish you upsize your swim bait and see how big of a swim bait the bass will eat.
Up for this challenge
Yes please
Not sure why lure companies aren't sponsoring this channel! It's basically a controlled system that has variable seasons, depths, covers, etc. There's so many things I would love to test here.
YES!
You should make a massive native wildflower meadow
And native prairie grasses!
"Don't push me in!"
Pushes him in and grabs the rod.
"Woo, I set the record now!"
That mystery fish looks like a pirate perch
Pretty sure your right
Should be named Jack Sparrow then surely! Looks a bit drunk too
@@ropu996 That's Captain Jack Sparrow, savvy? 😉
I agree, they are very slow swimmers
You need to introduce shellcrackers (red ear sunfish) for the snails. The bluegills will not control the mollusks. You can also get fish parasites from the mollusks.
i have bluegill that eat those types of snails (bladder snails) idk if its different elsewhere
@@user-ix8ti4lz8q Sunfish eat bladder snails??? My aquariums are literally infested with them Im gonna try to use them for bait lol
Any type of perch would be better at eating snails than what he presently has in the pond. And your right about the health issues they bring to a pond.. Chances are very good the snail population will explode in the pond if a predator that prefers them is not introduced, and Red ear is both native and perfect for the job..
Yeah red ear sunfish will take care of those snails
Also. Can we get an update on the back yard pond!!! I’ve seriously watched every single video of all your pond builds.
Yes, were doing a Spring cleanout soon, I'll make sure to film some and give an update on Moby
@@BamaBassplease! Moby is the star of the channel after all lol.
@@BamaBass pls show moby add him to the 5 acer pond
Yeah would
Love to know how many Turtles are still around, catfish etc
@@BamaBass black carp snails
Out of all the CZcams videos I watch, I get the most excited when I see a new one on your channel.
Exactly
The fish is a pirate perch, a rare find!
These are really amazing shots... I don’t think people realize how hard it is to film wild animals, let alone the views you’re able to get. Keep up the incredible work! Thanks!
This may be one of the best series on CZcams 🎣🦞🦌🦝🦅🦊
It is the best I feel the same ❤
Yes, this and the one about Pantdora from AntsCanada. The best ones.
No doubt! Most subs I have I pay little attention to, and just watch when I’m bored. For Bamabass I adjust my schedule 😂
Just don't copy what's being done with that pond as far as fish stocking and habitats go. There's going to be some serious issues down the road. Catching that larger bass twice and multiple catches of others in a pond that size is a red flag. Not to mention the variation in size is an issue. I'm just a fisheries biologist so don't pay any attention to me.
Can we get a 1 hour episode please!!!!
Be happy with what you get.
Sure
How dare you!
@AnthonyPosi Good lord! Yall are so uptight. Can't even see a reverse compliment when yall see one.
I look forward to this episode ever other Sunday. Sad when BamaBass misses a Sunday and happy at times whrn he uploads on a Monday or Tues
Guess yall are never upset when a good show doesn't get renewed!
Of just fish and live feed under water!
3 AM in the morning catching myself watching bamabass 😂
You must be on the other side of the world from me. It’s almost 9 pm here. Greetings from Texas!

Congratulations on your success having kids catching fish on your lake and your beautiful family and having a channel that’s positive and informational to everyone..
The unidentified fish at 5:35 is a Pirate Perch (Aphredoderus sayanus). They typically live in blackwater creeks. Fun fact: they are one of the only fish to not have an anus their their anal fin. Their anus is located on their throat directly behind the gill plate
Wow that’s interesting. Thanks for sharing!
Wow, there are some really smart people who watch theses videos
My understanding of snails is that they are a clean up crew. Of course invasive snails can out compete native species, but I'm sure these are naturally occurring.
If you got your rocks from Wisconsin like you said, I’d double-check to make sure these aren’t New Zealand Mud Snails
@@donaswa Yup, but hard to see the snails in this. Usually we use them in our tanks as a third cleanup crew, epecially in planted aquariums. MOST aquatic snails only eat detritus.
My only complaint is that I don't want the video to end. Do you have a live stream up yet? Take care and God Bless you all!!!❤😊
Snails are good for the pond! They can control the algae and keep it cleaner!
They are also good snacks for the fish too
@@romanholowka9558they absolutely will. They'll also attract a few birds.
Freshwater Mussels will clean up that pond real quick
On them Vultures, there are 2 kinds. You have Black Vultures and Turkey Vultures. Black vultures when flying you see white feathers on the end of their wings from underneath. Turkey vultures have white on the length of the wings, not the ends. Turkey vultures also teeter back and forth when flying, where as Black vultures just glide! The wild life you have there is "JUST WILD"! That boy wanting to eat that fish was adorable! Good times, thanks! 😁😉🎣
Just watched a nat geo show that said the only way to get it from armadillos is to eat the armadillo. It also has to be a specific part of it.
Armadillo makes a fine meal.
Don’t be scared
I think I read somewhere that they can't pass it to humans or that it's very hard for it to pass from armadillos to humans
@@kylesmith3211 armadillos are everywhere, leprocy is nowhere.
Roast one over a mesquite fire. Fine dining! They even come with their own bowl!
@@atthebrink74 - Yep, 'possum on the half shell!
@@kylesmith3211 - Research has shown that it is believed that humans initially infected the armadillo with the leprosy bacteria. But now most humans are immune to it.
Sara and Oliver are adorable brother.
I came for the pond knowledge. stay for the family content!
😌🥰
🙌🏼🫶🏼
The small fish you caught in the crawfish trap 5:39 is called a Pirate Perch. They get maybe a inch or two bigger. They are the only members of their family (Aphredoderidae). Fun fact: Their cloaca is right below their neck.
Those Cattail shoots are delicious pickled. I found them in a Vietnamese grocery store and never heard of them before but they are always in my fridge now.
You can actually use them as a flour substitute too. Super versatile for something we discard!
Keeping cattails out is going to be a full time job
Yep . Easier to let em have a little section .
Nice to see the amount of diverse animals and life that appears. This is what humans should do, create ecosystems and maintain and keep the ones already around us.
You need to keep setting traps in the swamp to catch more pirate perch, I wonder if you could get a pair or two to breed in cedar falls. Also I second the red ear sunfish (shellcracker) idea helps with snails and fun for the kiddos.
You've got a real wildlife sanctuary going on there! Just pray it doesn't attract any cormorants.
Just a few days ago I walked to a creek that’s on a trail near my apartment in central Virginia. And scooped some dirt and sand from the bottom of the creek along with some water in a 1 gallon container. Took it home and dumped it in a tub to start a culture of small water creatures. Come to find out I caught a baby crayfish. Along with a few diving beetles 👍
If those Bald Eagles would build a nest, you could do a full 24/7 livestream of the build, plus the hatchlings.
Crayfish found their way into our pond naturally. We built the pond in 1999 and I never saw any until a few years ago when I started finding dead ones in the grass. On rainy nights you’ll see them out in the grass and I guess they get stuck out there. Now I go out and throw them back in.
The reason they get on the grass may be because the pond is too acidic or something about the water is not right. Atleast thats what i read about native crayfish here in Sweden
It is one of the best non-scientific research projects yet! Some University should give you an honorary Doctorate! I love every minute of this channel!
Wouldn't he have to submit some kind of a research paper? IDK, I'm not american.
An honorary doctorate is a doctoral-level honorary degree that a university awards to an individual who has achieved eminence in a field or service, without requiring them to complete a course of study or research. An honorary doctorate recognizes the extraordinary and lasting distinction of the recipient. @@arjara85
Having those eagles on the property is pretty cool
Man I love listening to eagles. I see them a lot when I'm fishing.
Congratulations on 1 million subscribers
I know I commented about this before, but if you ever do a raffle to where you'll let subscribers come fish the trout, I would love to enter!!!! Just to be out there on the farm would be so rewarding! I'd take a kayak out to the middle and take naps!!! lol. cant wait till your next video!!!
snails definetly keep the pond healthy sign of a good eco-system
To enjoy life, we must touch much of it lightly.
Those Bass are Growing fast!!! btw... My last name, is Bass!! Long time follower here in Missouri!
So is BB a nickname? 😂😁mine is LB so mine is ‘pound’ which you know kids got changed to ‘pounder!’😂😂😂
I got a nickname of B2 "B Squared" from the late 80s.. Now days, I'm Bri Guy!@@lindabuck2777

"I want to eat him"😢😂 so precious ahaha
3:34 warm enough enough lol
Happy Birthday Oliver!
This video series is absolutely fantastic. Your attention to conservation and property management is top notch. Looking forward to many more!
Please make more videos about armadillos and animals the visit the farm at night. They are so interesting to watch.
Love the amount of wildlife on your property.
Get some sort of sucker fish for the pond for the snail problem, they have crushers which they use to eat snails
Shellcracker panfish eat them
Snails aren't really a bad thing
For sure, good idea
Howdy... great video.. can you feature how the ducks/duck house are holding up?
so cool to see small fish in the tiny creek!
omg name the new fish 'buddy' since hes so friendly. coolest catch in a while !!
Waiting for two beeps in one bass. 🤣 Thank you for sharing the progress from all you're hard work.
Happy birthday future bass king
Definitely frog spawn. I love in UK . But absolutely love watching everything you film 😊
For crawdad bai use canned cat food and punch a bunch of small holes with a church key can opener. This prevents them from eating the bait thru the outside of the trap.
Perfect timing! I was having a boring Sunday with no football or F1! I love these videos and was hankering for one the past couple weekends! Thanks for making these, they're a lot of fun.
“I want to eat him”
😂😂 kids are hilarious
That kid's mouth was watering 😅😊
@@maushardt13 😂😂😂😂
Well, seems normal to me because I’m hungry and working for my food! I have no concept of catch n release, imma GIRL and GUYS like it more than us on average. Y’all fish for the peace n quiet, bein in nature-god we talk a lot 😳🙄just never caught the fishing bug. My dad owned a shrimp oat for awhile, one Saturday leisure family ride, we all say dad we want to shrimp-why not he says. I caught about a 12 inch very blue granddaddy shrimp an go boy I’m gonna enjoy this-dad goes-who owns the boat-dad! He called me while eating it to taunt me!!! God I miss our fishing together!!! 🙏🏻❤️🤨
Would love to see you add beehives to the 5-acre ecosystem...maybe even on the island. Besides the benefit to the ecosystem, you'd get some delicious honey!
Happiness is a Swedish sunset it is there for all, but most of us look the other way and lose it.
The “goat” is a certified trout eater. That’s how they look here in Cali when they stock trout.
Yeah, it's gotta be eating those trout to get that big 😮😊
I live in New England and that black tail on Johnny is a northern bass trait. It's how I can I spot them in the water. Hope that helps with your next video! I've been watching since the beginning!
Yeah, those are 100% frog eggs.
And I'd say that the snails are a great sign! They'll be a huge help in keeping the algae under control, as well as being a great food source for the bluegills and (probably) trout.
To add some more structure ,a pontoon houseboat would be a fun Airbnb option.
Great amount of detail. It reminds me of walking around a private preserve with my grandpa and him teaching us about how it all worked together.
Well done! The effort and passion are evident.
This channel is such a treasure. Thanks BamaBass!
Ive been a fan of you bamabass since stephen and liz caught bonnie and clide. Can't wait to see the future content of bass fishing and the pond videos. I think that you should make a small pond for the crawfish and minnows that you catch from the traps.
This channel is Rated G . . . . We love it !
IVE BEEN WATCHING EVERY SINGLE VIDEO. BAMA BASS. I would love to get a bass tagged in your AMAZING PONDS and wildlife sanctuaries you have created. If at ll possible. I would Love to name a bass “Kiwi”. Keep up the amazing work. LOVE IT.
Maybe add some mussels to the small pond as they're filter feeders and will clean the water right up once they're mature and there's a decent sized population.
SNAILS ARE VERY GOOD FOR FISH TANKS😉
Loving watching these videos on a Sunday with a chew in
Same here man 😊
“Don’t push me in” hahaha love kids
Looks like a warmouth. Mix between a bluegill and largemouth.
The wildlife at your pond is spectacular, esp the eagles.. BTY, both the black and red headed are vultures, respectively, turkey vultures and black vultures. (Juvenile turkey vultures have dark heads ,)
that fish looks like a pirate perch
The trout will also eat a ton of the snails in the pond. Each one I catch in streams have a few in their stomach as im cleaning them.
Hmmm sounds like something good to use for bait.
You do a really good job narrating the videos.
Ducks love snails, they'll eat them like there's no tomorrow.....👍👍👍👍👍
Or let French backpackers camp out for a few days? 😉🤭😂
Awesome. Your children are having fun.
Thank you for the update.
Love it when Bama Bass and Flair post at the same time 🦌🎣
I watch both also
Same
Flair?
Flair??
If I ever get bama bass, flair, kendal grey, and finatic video on the same day...I'd say that'd be my best day ever
It's crazy catching Creek fish. In kentucky You see some beautiful little bate fish
17:07 It is INSANE how fast the owl's head is spinning around
this pond should be declared as a protected wild life sanctuary
9:35 "I wanna eat him" kid's an absolute savage lol
⚔️
Freshwater snails are extremely beneficial. Bluegill and shad and baby bass eat them
That black tail on Johnny is a pure northern strain trait, all the bass I’ve ever seen have some variation of that tail coloration
Finally man I’ve been through hell waiting on your next video thank you for posting
Great day for a new video. Been watching since 2017
Snails are frequently intermediate parasite hosts for mammal species so it's good to keep their numbers down. Red ear sunfish are 1 of the best to stock to control snails.
Cat tails are edible roots ,leaves and cob on the top.
Pollen used 4 baking and vitamins.
Happy Birthday Oliver!!! 🎂😋😁
Please don't think so long for the next video because I can't wait so long 😀
Less time = less content
This time next year The Goat is absolutely going to be 9 pounds by next year
That little fish looks like what, in GA, we call a Warmouth Perch.
I believe the proper name is Pirate Perch.
I love your videos. I also follow Daniel and remember when he caught the bass. I loved seeing the many Eagles. Youre so blessed to have such an amazing view of all these birds. God Bless and thank you for sharing your journey.
Great video!
