  • The incandescent light bulb is made from two separate factory lines that eventually merge. One prepares the glass bulb. The other make the electrical components in the light bulb.

      Mechanical Engineers. A lot of these machines are so unique that the companies hire engineers to design, manufacture, and maintain the equipment.

      These type of machine are designed and usually build by engineers it can be a firm or a team that's hired by the comapny

    Filmed in the former Sylvania light bulb plant in St. Marys, PA. This factory ran for about 100 years. RIP Oct. 2019 😢

    Interesting and informative but I wanted to see how the glass bulb was blown. This would be the first step and they omitted it.

    The real fun is the glass foundry, it’s like Dante’s inferno. I spent 6months on a project in one. It was the most dangerous place I’ve ever been in. The had an onsite nurse. The accident book filled a page a day. They also had a hotline to the local hospital, no dialing just pick up the handset.

      @@letsbegaming5411 I still use LEDs. Do you think I’d downgrade my lights to incandescent. Guess what fluorescents and induction and HID have mercury.

      @@thecampaigner2167 Although the materials used aren't a health hazard, incandescent bulbs use significantly more power than LED bulbs, since they rely on heat to generate light. This is probably the main reason they were banned, since energy production is a burden on the environment, and most of the time the heat was an annoying byproduct rather than being used for anything (except in edge cases like easy bake ovens). Also, the increased risk of fire is in theory a hazard, although it relies on the user being negligent and putting the bulb right next to something flammable.

      But you have to take into consideration that after 1000 hours, the light loses it efficiency and begins to require more energy for less light

    At 2:54, is it just me or does the machine look very angry and just wants to break something but knows it'll get fired if it does so it just sets the bulb down easy only to go through the whole thought process again?

    Now light bulbs are done, same as vacuum tubes, x-ray films, dial telephones, TV picture tubes. If cars could be printed they would do that.

    INCANDESCENT LIGHT BULBS NEVER BURN OUT THEY CAN LAST 100 YEARS. THE BULB MANUFACTURER'S PUT A HIGH VOLTAGE SHOCK TO THE FILAMENT TO WEAKEN IT. SO IT LASTS A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF HOURS.

      @@michaelrobb9708 YEARS BACK I WAS TOLD THESE LIGHT BULB MANUFACTURERS WOULD PAY THE GOVERNMENT FINES. BECAUSE THEY CHARGED OVER A CERTAIN PERCENTAGE THAN IT COST TO MANUFACTURE THE BULB AT THE TIME IT WAS PROBABLY A PENNY PER BUILD. IT WAS MUCH PROFITABLE TO PAY THE FINE THEN TO LOWER THE PRICE OF A BULB.

      @@homeguestunton AT TIMES A BULB HERE AND THERE MAY SLIP THROUGH AND NOT GET SHOCKED. THOSE ARE THE BULBS THAT NEVER BURN OUT AND THEY COULD LAST FOR A HUNDRED YEARS. THE ONLY WAY THEY'LL STOP WORKING AS IF YOU BREAK THE GLASS.

    I do not understand how the glass bulb is attached to the metal base? I see some kind of "mud" between the two different materials. I did not see how the argon gas filled inside either.

      @@bigbadhag What was different about the filament? Is it just a thicker gauge of tungsten coil? A different combination of materials? I always find it fascinating that there is so much knowledge about the things omnipresent in everyones' lives that are invisible to most of us. In this case, this bit of invisible knowledge makes things literally visible. It's poetic.
