    I’m only past the first hand so far but I experience this all the time at my local poker room ~ it’s insane. Rather than milk full value they over bet shove their entire stack because they don’t want to be drawn out on. It saves me money honestly. He was afraid of the spade flush draw so he jammed to protect his hand.

      I'm pretty new but this is a lesson I'm trying to learn in the opposite direction, betting much bigger to push someone off of a draw. I've lost 4 or 5 hands on rivered flushes my last two sessions, pretty frustrating. Betting when I'm ahead but not big enough

    • @dougmccuskerpoker
      @dougmccuskerpoker  Před 3 lety +1

      @@cj5rox271 I do have a tendency to bet to small which sometimes leads to draw outs. When I feel my opponent is on a draw, I normally increase my bet size to offer poor odds. Sometimes they call and get there, but I feel better about charging them for the draw.

    one thing I love and learn about live cash games is that if you sit at the wrong seat with bad luck, you can always request a table change. I do when I have the best starting hand and keep getting sucked out, I don't force it, instead I look for a better seat and it has paid off and sure stopped me from loosing what I would have lost if stayed in the bad luck seat.

    • @mickeymike5179
      @mickeymike5179 Před 3 lety

      the QQ vs Q10 hand and him flopping a straight would have been my first warning sign. I don't give bad luck many chances. The K3 of diamond vs the ace7 diamonds and the K better kicker than you. also the KK vs AA I would have gotten up immediately and waited for a different table. if no table then I do drive to other casino if time permits. If not I go home and wait for better day.

    • @dougmccuskerpoker
      @dougmccuskerpoker  Před 3 lety

      I think there is something to moving seats or tables, not so much to change your luck, but so your opponents feel your luck might be different. If you change tables, no one there has any idea if your running good or bad.

    Your loose passive play is kind of atrocious. I feel like you need to tighten up your preflop ranges. Also stop flatting small raises multi way.... Especially in position. Raise or fold.... The K3 suited hand on the button comes to mind. Also stop being results oriented and superstitious. Any thing that has happened prior to your current hand is irrelevant and should have no bearing on your decision making in the current hand. The game your in also seems terrible. You might wanna practice better game selection. Stop having "standard" sizing.... i.e. like your $20 bet. Your bet sizing needs work.

      @@dougmccuskerpoker I will offer one more piece of general advice from a GTO-based perspective. I see this from many otherwise good players at the 1-2, 1-3, and 2-5 limits, It is the overuse of the continuation bet. Time and time again, I see many good players almost robotically C-bet the flop as the preflop aggressor without taking into account whether the pot is heads-up or multiway, In a multiway pot, your c-bet frequency should drop dramatically and if the pot has 4 or more players, you should basically, depending on the flop of course, be very infrequent with C-bets in this spot. In fact, delayed C-bet works much better multiway in many circumstances from both a math perspective (only one card to come) and a psychological perspective at these limits; on the flop at these limits hope springs eternal as a decent % of the player population will call flop C-bets with as little as runner runner flush draws and naked overs. Please note that this C-betting advice applies only to multiway pots.Heads-up, GTO and myself, advocate a ver, very high C-Bet frequency. When I teach my friends that are learning the game, I start them out with a basic 100% heads-up c-bet frequency for basically 1/2 pot. As they progress in their learning, I add checking flopped nutted hands and completely hopeless hands and start to add varying C-bet sizing from 1/3 through 3/4 pot depending on flop texture and opponent stickyness.

    • @dougmccuskerpoker
      @dougmccuskerpoker  Před 3 lety

      @@gregorystgermain713 that is very good advice! My cbet % is high, mainly because my opponents defend % is so low. I’ve noticed that the better players in the 2-5, 5-5 games defend at a higher frequency and are more willing to attack your range on boards where your range is weak. I have been adjusting my cbets in tougher games and have been using a delay cbet more often. I really enjoy hearing feedback from better players like yourself, I still have a lot to learn. I ran thru the Jonathan Little course a few months ago when they had a free 3 day special. I was glued to my iPad for those 3 days, it had excellent content. I also tried out upstart on some special, but it was basic stuff. They hold back most of the good stuff so people will pay.
