I mean i already had the theory that the reason so many characters have tragic backstories is the doing of the gorosei and the suffering is what they actually want. This kinda fits.

i definitely agree imu is controlling everything behind the scene, the game odyssey heavily hints at what imu is actually doing and what her potential abilities are as well.
