I’ve been looking at this thing for a while. Couldn’t find any reviews thanks drew!
I like the Pinhoti pint 🍻 I just did The FT starting in Key West this past winter. Been riding a bunch lately down here in FL and just picked up a Comp ST. I’ll have to check these out. Thanks, dude
I have a SJ (carbon SJ expert, 29r, 150mm front, 140mm rear, w/Rockshox Pike), and have recently had a chance to experience the changes in my suspension w/the Cascade link.
Now maybe it's your 27.5 wheels, or forks too, or that you mentioned going up to 160mil on the front, but I noticed LESS pedal bob when climbing.
I switched from RS Deluxe to a FOX DPX2. Noticed difference right away, but after the Cascade was installed, big difference! I did increase my DPX2 psi to get me closer to 25% sag, I like it that way, but still feels plush enough on small-bump. Massive difference to the mid-stroke. So much more progressive, but my bike seem to handle climbing better WITH the link. I didn't have to really change the DPX2 compression setting, and the rebound settings are more noticeable and responsive now.
Don't forget this is with a different model shock--I see you're using the Float X2 right? and I have a 32t Absoluteblack chainring (flip-chip in LOW). With the DPX2 and the Cascade I get a bit of the top stroke feel similar to what I liked about the Rockshox, and my progressivity mid-stroke and beyond has ramped up very noticeably. This thing handles so well on rough boulder rock garden type terrain now even when running w/a touch more psi in the tires than I need.
Don't have a better pic' right now, but here's one I took on a ride, and you can see I have the orange link added:
ep1.pinkbike.org/p5pb20271214/p5pb20271214.jpg
It truly was a few video reviews--like yours and a couple others and yours may be the FIRST one I saw--that convinced me to get it and I'm s00pa'-d00pa' glad I did!

ps- Hey Yo! I have Deity bars too! Blacklabel w/a Renthal Apex stem.
This is awesome. First time I rode the stump jumper I knew it needed a better link! Thanks for doing the vid🤘
Thanks! The fox X2 improved the ride a ton but paired with the link made it even that much better 👍
Great presentation. Awesome work man
A very good, concise, and informative review! Keep it up
Thanks man!
Nice Drew. You should actually show us a side by side comparison so we could see what the differences are in size / physically. Might help potential buyers understand how much changes. Either way, looks like you're enjoying it. Good video as always.
Yea, I agree. A back-to-back with GoPro footage of the shock in action would be quite interesting to see
What kind of sorry ass, quarter-glass of chocolate milk is that?
Coo dat is sick you’re a good rider and your cool
funny, intuitive, attractive, shreds.... this guys got everything!
Cascade components. Just checked it out. Wow! They even speak my language.
I cant wait to get one for my Sentinel
what did you put in between rear triangle and front one where they hold together in that lowest pivot?
Sick review also you’re funny, love the vids!
Cascade Components are doing some really cool things. Hopefully, they will eventually have links for almost every bike.
I agree! Sounds like they are working on lots of other links as well
Solid review! I also have a 27.5 but evo running cascade link. Unfortunately though, i can only run in low. In high, the yoke link contacts seattube. 160 fork with 55stroke rear. Definately makes for a funner ride
Interesting that you can't run it in low mode. Thanks for the comment!
To run in low I heard you need a 50mm stroke for your rear shock.
@@SohanSingh-db7qp On my regular 27.5" stumpjumper I run a 52.5mm stroke in high and low mode.
Excellent video, I have a Stumpjumper Alloy 2021 entry level. Will this fit soy I can upgrade to a Fox Float?
Hi, I am wondering what is that shock that you put on the bike
If your thinking about getting one for your stumpy, do it. Put one on my Evo 29 pro and it in fact did completely change the bike.
So I can't get the new EVO b/c of the nearly year long waiting list lol! (Not even sure if they'll HAVE one of these for the 2022 EVO) So your EVO's a bit more slack than my 2019 Stump Expert. Do you think it's a bigger change w/YOUR geo, or a good upgrade for either? How much of a dif' did you notice with steering control at speed, and how much (good/bad) did it effect climbing?
See, was thinking about modding the rear shock, but THIS link thing has got me curious. Had to ask.
~JSV
Thanks for the video. Very interesting and informative. Does this information apply to the 2019 stumpjumper ST? Stock it’s 130 front and rear. I’d like to change it to 160 front and rear. Thanks.
Great review man! I definitely noticed an improvement during my first ride with the link! What do you have your sag set to? I find I have to have it at 25% if I want to avoid frequent bottom outs, even with the link. And so I end up setting my fork to around 22% to maintain the same geometry. It still feels fine, I just wish I could run it at like 30% (shock) and 25% (fork)
Yeah, I had to bump my rear pressure up quite a bit with the new link. Im still running almost 30% sag though. I have three volume spacers in my shock, and i dont bottom out much anymore. It may be worth sticking a few volume spacers in, if you havent already!
@@drew.blanks I actually already have all three spacers in there! I wonder if it has something to do with that offset bushing I installed 🤔 I just ordered a 160mm air spring so I'll put the stock bushing back in when I install that and see if it feels any different!
Waiting for the evo alloy 2022, wonder specialized mullet link vs cascade link.
I wonder how well this will work on a 26inch hardtail!!! Great vid man. I'm liking the content.
will it work on a 2021 stumpjumper alloy?
Hey man ive got the same bike but 130mm of travel i want to make 160 like yours. Can you tell me which forks and rear shock you have please?! Thanks!
Such a cool video. I didn't know this existed. I just got my first full sus last year (stumpy alloy) do you think it's worth upgrading on the lower level bike? or is this just something for the higher end? Thanks in advance. Cheers
Hey! Its a great upgrade. Even on the alloy stumpjumper, id say go for it.
Yo two years late here but have to shout out that jack johnson poster in the back. He’s my all time fave, I have the same poster!
Amazing haha! Jacks been my favorite artist for a while
you also can use offset bushings
What shock is that? And will it fit my sj alloy?
Are you on a 27.5? I’m on a 29r, I have the link and a dpx2 off of an evo. Now I want to do the fork to a 36 elite to balance it out. Why do think the 160 is the way to go? Also what offset fork did you go with?
A 160mm fork slackens the headtube angle out a little and bumps the front travel up. If you want a more aggressive ride on the DH, i would reccomend it. Feels alot more like the new stumpy evo with a 160mm fork and the link installed. I believe it was 44mm offset
Hey nice vid dude just wondering if you’re gonna make another van build episode?🤔
Franco Scheffer Yep! I’m currently working on it, so the next van vid will be out in a few weeks
Drew Blankenbecler Gr thanks
Great*
Hello Drew I would like to know if whybdid you habe tonadd 20 psi innyour rear shock? Does it mean also that you have to redo the sag again? Thanks as always. Ride safe always and God bless! 😊
Yes, you will want to add air pressure and re-setup your sag. The link has a different leverage ratio than the original. Adding about 20psi is a good starting point
Running a cascade link on my Alloy EVO 29 with a longer stroke Coil shock to net 160mm on my 29er and a 170mm coil fork... It was built as a park bike since I have broke 2 carbon Enduro frames..
I don't have any experience with my bike with the stock link and air shock.. But I will say that with the link and a coil shock, the EVO is an absolute bike park destroyer.. Like its not a DH bike... But it's really really capable and I'd have no issue riding it at any bike park in the world..
Dude that sounds like a sick setup! I haven’t ridden an evo 29 but would love to swing a leg over one. Keep rippin 🤜
@Nick Bell which coil and fork models did you go with ?
@@theinnerdreamer7043 Marzocchi Bomber CR coil 210x55mm. Gives you extra travel. Then a Marzocchi Bomber Z1 Coil set at 170mm.
I weigh 220lbs and am running a 700lb spring on the shock and the extra Firm fork spring.
Hi..care to share the bike setup for this Stumpy?
Cheers!!
Hey man why did you add 20 PSI to your shock when using this link? If I have a coil will I need to increase the spring rate? 450 to 500 type of thing? My main goal is to just prevent harsh bottom outs on big hits without losing my 25-30% sag like I think I would with a stronger spring? It's already super supple and has insane traction (just demo'd a Pivot Switchblade with a DPX2 and it just didn't feel as good in our desert tech. Even set it up proper for me...) so I just want that progressiveness at the end of my travel. Thanks in advance man! Great video and sick riding brotha!
Nevermind I actually read their description and this line; "This allows the bike to be run with a stiff enough spring to prevent harsh bottom outs, without having to compromise on small bump sensitivity or ride height." Made me understand its purpose more... So would this be pretty much the same as a progressive coil?
Finally.
Someone who reviews bike components who can actually ride a fuckin bike!
Hey man what size X2 you running? Also do you still need to run spacers to prevent bottoming out?
Hey! I am running the stock length (210 x 52.5). With the cascade link you DO need the spacer to make it 52.5mm. Otherwise, the frame will hit on bottom out. With the original link, you can run a 55mm stroke
Drew Blankenbecler i may not have that issue since i’m on a 29
Is there still room to run the flip chip in low with no clearance issues?
Yep! That’s what I’m running. Stock shock stroke in low mode
does Float X2 can fit on Stumpjumper? really need your response. thanks. anyway, very informative video
Hey! Yep, a fox x2 will fit no problem as long as it is the correct size
@@drew.blanks I heard the x2 might not fit the alloy frame version, have you heard the same?
Hi, can I use 210x55 shock?
on the 29 you can
Nice
Hello Drew! I have a question again. I was about to buy the fox dpx2 or Dvo t3 topaz to change the stock dps in my 2019 Stumpjumper but then I noticed that the mounting holes for both the top and bottom of these shocks (where the eye to eye is located) are positioned vertically while in my stock dps the bottom mounting hole is positioned horizontally. Can you please help me on what would be the proper specs and where to order for a rear shock that would fit my stumpjumper. Hoping to hear from you at your most convenient time. Ride safe always and God bless!
Hey Alvin! Did you ever buy the shock? Usually you can rotate the shock as needed. Just make sure you are getting a 210x50/52.5/55 shock so it will fit. 210 is the eye-to eye length. I'm looking at a Float X2 for my 2019 alloy, but trying to figure out if it will fit!
@@RajNaraine Hello Raj! Thanks for the reply yes I did bought the shock. I got the 210x55 abd then the shop that I bought it from customized it for 210x52.5. X2 would be a great shock to have as well! 😊👍
@@RajNaraine It would fit. I ask a youtuber named drew he used a float x2 on his 27.5 stumpy as well. I think yours would fit fine! 😀
@@BengLang84 I did more research and seems like people are saying it will hit on the Alloy frame. Carbon frame seems to clear ok. Do you have an alloy and is it the EVO frame?
@@RajNaraine I have the Stumpjumper Comp Alloy. I went with the DVO T3 Topaz and DVO Onyx. Totally changed the way the bike feels and rides.
Drew where were you riding?
Most of these are local trails in Georgia. The jump trails are at big creek park
Hello just happen to see this video. I have a 27.5 stumpy and I habe been wanting to upgrade my rear shock but I am having a hard time looking for the size 210x52.5. If in case I would put this in my Stumpy what would be the size of the rear shock that I can use then? Would appreciate if you or soneone would answer my question. Thanks and God bless!
Alvin Enobio hey! I love the x2 on my bike. With the cascade link you have to run 210x52.5
@@drew.blanks Hey Drew, is this appkicaboe to 2019 Stumpjumper comp alloy in 27.5? Also, can I upgrade my fork to 160mm without having the cascade component in my bike? Or you have to have it to run a 160 mm travel fork? Thank you and God bless! 😀
@@drew.blanks lastly, where did you buy your float x2? I can't seem to find in any online that has the 210x52.5 stroke. Only in dps and innthe 2021 dpx2. Thanks and God bless! 😀
Wonder if this can go on an EVO with a coil
Yep! It will be great for an evo with a coil
Hey man i have a 2019 27.5 stumpy and i want to upgrade to the x2 shock but it doesnt come in the 210x52.5 like my stock shock . It comes in 210x50 and 210 x 55 can i use eather of those if so which can i use ?
Agustin Herrera hey! Ideally you will want a 210x52.5. You can add or remove a 2.5mm travel spacer to the shock sizes you listed to accomplish that. But If you have the stock link (not the cascade) you can run 210x55 on the 27.5 stumpy no problem. It will increase your rear travel slightly.
So if i use the 210x55 i wont have any issues rubbing on the back tire and seat post? Do you think i can fit the fox x2 on my 27.5 stumpy ?
@@agustinherrera5600 Yep an x2 will fit your stumpy. Before the cascade link I ran my X2 with a 210x55 stroke. No problems with rubbing.
Is yours a 27.5 or 29? Shouldn’t matter right it will still be the same
Agustin Herrera mine is a 27.5” stumpy. The shock stroke for it is a 210x52.5 but the 29” stumpy has a 210x50.” Hence the difference in travel between the two models
Is it just for the Stumpjumper?
ggthe hero this specific link is. Cascade components does make links for other bikes too!
Hey man how do you install the x2 on the stumpy ? My old shock has the top hole facing one way and the bottom hole facing the other way and the x2 i just got has both holes facing the same way
Good question! You can rotate the air shaft- it wont cause any damage. You can probably do it by hand, but if its tight, just put a screwdriver through the top and bottom eyelets, and use those to turn the shaft
Thanx man its in . Hey the shock volume spacers in the box but not installed , do you think i need those ? Do you have any on yours?
@@agustinherrera5600 I have 3 volume spacers in mine, and feel like that’s the sweet spot. If you’re experiencing any harsh bottom outs I would throw a few in
I havent tried it out yet . Ill try it and see how it feels . Is it easy to put those in?
Hey man sorry for all the questions , i just noticed theres a bit of play on my headset of the stumpjumper might be the lower bearing but im not sure is it notmal to have some play or should there be no play at all?
Advisable to use it with a coil shock??
Yep! They work great with a coil
Have you tried the 52.5mm stroke on a 29” wheel?
I have not, sorry
Drew Blankenbecler thanks for the reply and keep up the great content. Will subscribe!
Will it void the frame warranty?
Daniel May yes, if there’s any damage caused by the link itself. I would keep your stock link around in case you had to warranty for another reason
this may offend the sj designer
Does this product prove that SJ's basic frame design is far from perfect?
Float x2 on a stumpy? Thought the air can didn’t fit?
Yah hoping to see this comment. Anyone got any answers?
This is a stumpy 27.5 or 29er?
Yup! Fits like a dream. No modifications required. I’m running the stock 210x52.5 stroke Fox X2
Alvin Enobio this is a 27.5 but the x2 will also fit a 29
@@drew.blanks okay. I have been going to jenson usa, worldwide cyclery but I cant seem to find a float x2 that has a 210x52.5 there is only 210x50 and 210x55. I wonder if that would be okay to use.
What happened to Seth's bike?
czcams.com/video/CSccbp_bYMU/video.html this?
Hey drew ive been looking into this link i have a 29 inch stumpjumper comp alloy 2021 with 190x45 rear shock i got 130mm travel. Ive been wondering what is the biggest shock i can put on it and if i could squeeze 150mm travel out of it
Hey! The 2021 alloy Stumpy is a great bike. Cascade sells a link for your bike. It will increase your travel to 138mm with the stock shock size. At this point its not possible to run a different shock size on your bike. But id highly reccomend checking out the cascade link if you want little bit extra out of your stumpjumper.
@@drew.blanks thank you for your reply. i was thinking if with a link if i could add a shock with longer stroke. ive seen that dvo topaz comes in a size 190x50 instead of my stock one that is 190x45. so i was wondering if that could mabe work or do you think id have clearance issues
@@Eckpitec Ah, i see what you mean. You could deflate your current shock and squish it all the way down to check how much tire clearance there is. If there a good bit, I bet you could get away with the longer stroke.
@@drew.blanks ok so update I have researched for a long time now and figured out that the movement of the yoke is limited so it would ad torqe to the shock ruining it pretty quick
so why buy that when volume spacers are cheaper ?....
That’s a great question! I compared it to adding volume spacers, but it would be like adding ALOT of them. It gives you more adjustability from the start. For riders that run a coil, this is also a great option since you can’t add volume spacers like an air shock.
I can’t comment help
Sounds basically like it turns a trail bike into an enduro bike and along with it come the benefits and drawbacks of enduro bikes. Better small bump compliance but pedal bob.
Put a coil shock on it.
Meh.
Last year I ran Whistler's A-line and some other blue/black and double black trails for 2 days with my 2014 Stumpy no problem. Jumped the shit out of it all day. Never bottomed out or had traction issues once even with the gnarly brake bumps in the corners
Huffy...... 👉😂🤣😆
What kind of sorry quarter glass chocolate milk is that
I I think I'm going to have to report this video for lack of sufficient STEEZE SAUCE!
No way Im paying almost $250 for some link that I can get custom made for like $50
Is this a solution to a problem that doesn’t exists? I’d say so.
Cascade Components sent you a free suspension link. The least you could do is add a link to their website in your description.
With the time you spent complaining like a female typing your comment, you could have easily typed the company name in your search engine.
Blue’s clues
Why doesn't it come this way from the factory......if it's better, you would think specialized would produce it that way
Probably because it adds pedal bob and stumpjumper is not a enduro bike. So You get better downhill for worse uphill. Specialized decided to favour the uphill capability here.
@@BiecherBender Pretty simple I think :) Its all tradeoffs. Stumpy is more Trail orientated so you want to be able to pedal it as well as descend on it.
I agree. There is a reason why the stumpy does not come with this sort of link geometry from the factory.
