    My parents would solve the problem with a very low tech device that is normally used to keep someone's pants up, but they hacked the design to create a child disciplining system. Worked wonders to keep us up on our chores and homework - and since it used no electricity, it was very environmentally friendly.

    • @jonathandpg2720
      @jonathandpg2720 Před 9 lety +1

      I think smaller amounts (that are not too small) are a good idea because then you can adjust the time in a more precise manor. Just because a token is 15 minutes doesn't mean they get a small amount of game time. Who knows maybe they earn enough for 6 a shot or maybe even 10 or whatever..........

    • @MrMinecraftLietuvis

    And this is how mass shooters are made.
    My abusive mother used a thing similar to this, it was a coin operated machine that limited my game time. Playing games was my only outlet and escape from her and I wanted to throw her off a cliff.
    Yes, she was in fact abusive, I am not saying this machine is what made her abusive. She would mentally torture me and hit me outside of the virtual world.
    The virtual world was my only escape and what I did in games was the only thing she couldn’t control so she controlled how long I played for and she did it with the use of coins.

    • @SianaGearz
      @SianaGearz Před 9 lety +2

      +Malenki888 That is a very valid objection. They should have really disabled the controls, not the power. Perhaps by unpowering the USB ports and disconnecting the wireless controller receiver - it should have an antenna somewhere that you can just shunt and then it won't do shit.

    • @holyhelga
      @holyhelga Před 9 lety

      +Malenki888 well then console would probably brick and parents would learn that you cant just turn off power to a console, atleast not a modern console, there where already consoles 3 years ago that got updates so this project was stupid at that time already.

    Fantastic channel, btw. And I have nothing but respect for the young father who requested this coin-op system for his children's WII. So many young parents today do little to teach their children responsibility. These children grow up feeling entitled to everything because their parents never taught them that 'no, means no' and that 'working hard has its rewards.' That's why we have so many young thieves in jail today; they felt 'entitled' to what they stole. It's sad really.

  • @prnkstr
    @prnkstr Před 12 lety

    The easy solution to kids using another powerchord would be to make the box out of steel, use a tumbler lock [really hard to pick compared to the one Ben used], and put the Xbox inside the actual steel casing. It would be an even more extensive mod ofc, but you could bolt the thing to a tv table or floor and you would be guaranteed they wont be able to access it wo getting the tokens. Now ofc you need to make sure that the tokens are stored in a safe somewhere:P

    like some have said the random shutoffs to the system can be damageing in the long run. i think a better method would to put the system in a box and hard wire the controller to the game console. the signal lines from the controller could be hooked up to a solid state switch run by a PIC (or arduino) this eliminates the need for the relay wich after hours and hours saves power. as long as you put a filter cap (of like 10 - 100uf) across the chip you can eliminate the noise. safer for the game.
