Just got one of these today. I don’t play gigs anymore but was an active drum & bass DJ for 20 odd years. I quit mixing for a few years and bought a cheap Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX during Covid and rediscovered my love for mixing tunes. I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a more professional Pioneer setup for a while but it was hard to justify the outlay when I have no intention of getting back in the club circuit. The thing is awesome.
Most of my years DJing were on vinyl or timecode Traktor Scratch / laptop combo. Never had a home pioneer setup before but this was the perfect unit for me. Don’t need 4 channels or inputs for decks as I haven’t owned my own decks in 2 decades.
Until now the only time I’ve ever played on pioneers regularly was in the late CDJ1000 / early CDJ2000 era while still playing out.
As this unit has a lot of new unfamiliar controls from the CDJ3000 & newer mixers than I’ve used before, this concise and informative walkthrough will be most useful. Thanks!

Hello, can you tell me if theres some way of Bar countdown to the next memory cue? Some pioneer gear has it, i cant find info on it when it comes ti the RX3
Hello! When creating a memory cue, I see a red bar countdown on the left side of the player (Where you see the key of the song) for the deck where my mem cue was set while also the mem button sets the pointer where the cue was saved. I don't know if this is what you're looking for, let me know.@@EExgle

Just got mine luckily. Absolutely loving it. A 2 channel nexus setup. Screen is huge. Updated browser controls. Sold all my gear and this will be my main rig going forward.
Getting mine hopefully mid January 2022 of the stock comes in.. can’t wait 🤘🏻

Just taken delivery of the XDJ-RX3 and transitioning from Serato to Rekordbox and Numark to Pioneer was a bit daunting, however, this tutorial has really helped me get to grips with the kit (which is awesome btw) quickly - thanks Phil, another great video from you! Highly recommend watching this if you're thinking of buying the RX3, or have and want to understand how it operates.

I use a DDJ800. Still love it after 2 years…. I really like the look of this unit & I do feel as a stand-alone it does a great job. After watching this video (Twice) I’m kinda jelly now…. I just got this bad boy and I must say I was a little reluctant of the smaller jogs I’m use to xdj xz and cdj 3000 jogs but this feels terrific very portable size and everything is familiar I’m so glad I chose this over the rane one absolutely love this unit thanks for the video 👍👍

Just got mine today, it's definitely a worthy upgrade over the rx2 mainly use for bedroom mixing, SoundCloud and parties, have done a few club sets like but it's just a hobby for me and the wife

Just got mine today but couldnt get the waveforms to show on the screen but after a quick google ive learned i need to download rekordbox and prepare my tunes for the usb before i use them. Sorted!

Hi Phil. You are my go-to on product reviews at the moment. There are literally hundreds of CZcams videos that do reviews and tutorials on dj equipment. Some are great and most are so annoying! With yourself, it doesn’t feel biased it feels comprehensive and honest. I myself own a DDJ 400, which is where I started my hobby. I now own a DDJ-800 and am looking to upgrade again soon to a standalone piece. I love Pioneer gear (obviously) and use Rekordbox. However, I also like the look of the new Denon Prime 4+. So many features for a fraction of the price that Pioneer can’t match. Onboard storage, analyse on the fly, streaming (I know Beatport is now featured by Pioneer), 4 channel standalone. I do like the look of the SC6000’s though, cos you get a free LC6000. Only the mixer to buy then you have 4 channels using 2 CDJ’s! However, it’s not Pioneer and that name is all over the clubs and party establishments. I’m seriously considering the XDJ-RX3, which has only 2 channels I know but, would be my first standalone and a piece of kit for sure! Great channel Phil, keep up the great work. Andy Mac. 👍🏼
Andy, if you think you are going to use other people’s Pioneer gear eg in clubs, it makes sense to stick with them. If not, Denon is better value.

Awesome video! I already have the CDJ 2000nxs set up. Just pick up XDJ RX3 because a lot of venues I dj in like bars and lounges are too small for my 2000's. Thanks for the comprehensive review! I learned a few things watching this vid but the real reason for watching was to learn how to change the play mode from Single to Continuous. Don't laugh..LOL

Hey Phil, thanks a lot for the tutorial! I learned some things that I did not know this unit could do by watching the entire thing. There is one point that you mentioned in your guide that is incorrect. It is NOT required to have a second USB drive to record your DJ set. USB 2 is the only slot from which you can record your sets, but if you put your music USB drive into slot 2 you can play your tracks and record your set from there simultaneously while only using 1 USB drive. This only works with the USB 2 slot but not with the USB 1 slot.
I like this unit overall, but I cant help but be annoyed at the fact that on this huge screen you can only select one extra parameter for the track information when browsing your playlists. Other than the track title, you can only choose ONE extra field to display the artist or the bpm when it could easily all fit in there. The only way to display all track information is to use the info button, but by doing so you need to change your focus multiple times while the information you want displayed should be customisable. Also the lack of simple features such as a bar count on the display is a bit disappointing. This unit, to me, feels like amazing quality outdated machinery.

@@zappers1000 Coming from Traktor on a laptop (and still using it plenty) I do feel there is a need for more info to be available onscreen while selecting tracks. A bit more of depth in this regard would make losing the laptop so much easier.

I was kinda disappointed after i ordered, for not seeing the mono-split option ive seen on other Pioneer gear.
Maybe i havent gotten to that part of the video yet, but i was wondering if there is a workaround for having that option anyways.

Thanks for this video! I have a comment and a question. I'm a little disappointed that they don't have a 32 beat jump (a full 8 bar phrase) and I also find some of the color effects not as useful as some of the others that Rekordbox offers. Is it possible to remap either the performance pads or the color effects in Rekordbox and have those remapped functions carry on in the RX3? I've got a handful of remapped functions on my DDJ-800 but I'm not sure if that works the same with a standalone.

Great tutorial, but I am having an issue with zoom/grid function because nothing happens when I push the touchscreen for grid or I hold the rotary button for few seconds. I am using RX3 as standalone with usbs and not as a controller. Also the software is updated to latest version. Any ideas what can be the problem?
Great video and tutorial. Just bought myself one and switched to digital after years of vinyl/cd's. With recording, do you have to convert the file when uploading to your laptop and where do you recommend storing the mix?
No, the file will play just fine from your laptop. If you want somewhere online to save your mixes, Mixcloud is best.

Not with Traktor, no - only with Rekordbox (and soon, Serato).

I’m wondering if there is a way to set the output to mono on the RX3 besides using an external mixing board?
I like daisy chain my speakers so you can imagine the challenges with this.
Is it possible to set both master outputs to one channel or the other like you can in desktop Rekordbox?
Don't think so but there may be an option to do so in the Utility panel, not able to check right now.
Great video, does anyone know how to display the wave forms above the decks one and two on the screen on the bottom? Right now I’m just playing songs off of USB thumb drive. It shows deck one and two song titles on the bottom, but completely black in the middle while song is playing?
